  • how do u get up to soooooooooooooo much cool stuff!!??

  • @Bazso there are different classes of lasers they where using a class 4 laser which is extremely powerful most of the ones in clubs are class 2 or so and they also are focused to infinity which can be seen for a distance but not too strong

  • Was the cause of the fire going out a lack of oxygen/fuel? If so what kind of effect(s) did/could a vacuum within the balloon create???

  • Aww! You should have popped the balloon, to show the smoke inside it!

  • I'm now incredibly smart, but I should be studying. :(

  • is that black light?

  • cool

  • y do u have the goggles?

  • @MrMmkmkm

High energy light can damage your eye. The particular part of your eye that can become damaged is called the Retina. The goggles filter out the high powered light so we won't hurt our eyes. Whenever you are dealing with high powered lasers selecting and using the correct type of goggles is extremely important. Good question.

  • @destinws2

i think i just got smarter today....

  • @destinws2 How about lasers in clubs, concerts and shows - where you have no chance not to look into the beam? Are those dangerous as well - if so, how is it possible that those are allowed at all?

  • That demonstration looks verrrry familiar! I recommend inflating the balloon with a balloon pump so that it will remain more transparent. Blowing it up with your breath allows condensation to form on the sides. :-DDDD

  • this dude is so cool!

  • how come you can pop bloons with laser pointers?

  • @emandharok because the heat degrades the rubber that the ballons are made of, and if the laser is strong enough it penetrates the rubber causing it to explode

  • Did anyone notice the epic lion drawing on the whiteboard behind them?

  • it's just CO2 in there. what if you put in a little more oxygen and then light it up.

  • Haha! Was that the "Shocker?"

  • 2 words ... fuck you ! ....... ( jealousy)

i want to be a physicist but my friend say it has nothing to do with all the fun stuff that i see on you tube i like the space and physics ( gravity ... etc) .. so what do you do ?

  • lion. <3

  • GO FLATULENT MOTION!!!!!

  • Awesome! How much does a laser like that cost?

  • He said it didn't pop the balloon because it was transparent, but lets say you chose a blue balloon that you couldn't see through, would it of done the same?

  • @iAMScootaG The Laser would heat the balloon causing it to pop

  • cool

  • I couldn't focus on anything else besides the epic whiteboard drawing of a lion In the backround

  • I Love you.

  • @RustyPegUK

    (man hug)

  • @destinws2 Thanks! - Thats probably a much better way of doin it Keep up the amazing work dude.

  • @destinws2 how did you get so smart?

  • The other guy sounds like andre the giant

  • question what is the output in Mw's of the laser because i hv a 100Mw green laser and i just wanted to see your one's strenght?

  • Aweasome

  • Sweet drawing of a lion!!

  • I thought since the flame would have used as much oxygen as possible before it died out, the resulting vacuum would make the balloon implode? if that's even possible?

  • The condensation inside the balloon at 1:30 generated a 15 minute discussion with my youngest about combustion products, which led to a discussion of hydrocarbons, which led to a discussion of sugar, which led to the epiphany that metabolic processes must also generate water, which led to google which led to the term 'metabolic water' and a few very interesting articles.

    Smarter every day!

  • Now thats a vacuum kids !

  • cool

  • Epic condom

  • nice condom

  • Cool

  • You should have popped the balloon after this was over so we could have seen the smoke escape.

  • That's a beautiful lion in the background

  • wouldn't the balloon get larger because the heat from the match and the laser gives the air inside it energy so the particles vibrate more, causing high pressure?

  • @thisismy181 Theoretically the Balloon should get smaller and create a Vacuum, because combustion needs Oxygen which in the Balloon.

  • how the ballon didn't get smaller as the oxygen burned?

  • @Adsem you have to realize that combustion reactions may consume oxygen, but with combustion, there is also exhaust, such as co2 water and carbon monoxide.

  • well he really isnt makin me smarter cause when am i gping to light a match in a balloon GTFOVevo

  • I almost thought the balloon would have shrunk a little bit because of whatever remaining oxygen was consumed by the flame.

  • @madblunted good point, there should be quite an significant amount of oxygen consumed, thus making it smaller. I think(!) there was enough pressure in the balloon to compensate for it.

  • @madblunted I do not think it would shrink because everything is contained inside the balloon, although some oxygen would have been burnt it does not just disappear it turns into something else, in this case if you look at the end of the video there was water inside the balloon, water is H2O, there is your oxygen.

  • @thegunguy1911 You sound like a kid dude, grow a brain and go to a gun channel.

  • @GTFOVevo nice name

  • epic fking lion drawing in the background

  • I can't wait for your highspeed "Birds of Prey" video to come out next week. Slow-mo animal footage is always the craziest!

  • @TrapZoneCanine well now it's out

  • What videos have you made to answer you kids questions? Or are they all just your fun experiments for your burning curiousity?

  • Destin if i am going to get smarter every day, you need to make 1 video for each day.

  • @rapuz Well, aren't you clever.

  • Great video! Can u guys try that again but fill the balloon with helium?

  • Achievement Unlocked: SMRT 30G

  • where can i get some cutting lasers?!

  • ...but will it blend

  • they should`ve told us to use glasses, now i`m half blind!

  • You filled the balloon with CO2, but the match needs oxygen to burn...

  • @jbvsmo Then why did the match light?

  • @jbvsmo you dont exhale 100% CO2.

  • Tummen upp om Existenz tog er hit!

  • the colour gets so messed up when the laser is on

  • you can light a small candle in the balloon, a birthday cake candle stub for example, then turn off the light, you may see a balloon lamp expanding, and if the candle stub is light enough and the balloon big enough, maybe you can see the balloon lamp rising, if that doesn't happen, change the balloon to a sealed plastic bag

  • particles can go through objects, i love physics :D

  • i don't understand how it doesn't pop the balloon because it goes through the balloon first, and if its powerful enough to light a match it must be powerful enough to burst a balloon ??

  • So, you are wearing the laser goggles due to the high intensity of the beam. We can watch without because the camera cannot capture the intensity.

Similar to welding and welding hoods, correct?

  • Do that but use smoke bomb.

  • Y u no pop Ballon?

  • this didnt make me smarter at all...it actually made me realize how dumb i am

  • @GOATSAUCE You actually just got a lot smarter by realizing that. We all are.

  • do something together with slowmo guys! :O

  • If it could do that to the metal imagine what it would do to someone's eyes

  • When you breath out, its not 100% CO2, there's O2 also. Which is why you can breath with a bag over ur head for a little bit before you start to struggle

  • How do that work? when you exhale, you dont breath out O2. so the balloon doesnt have O2, so how is there any fire

  • How about putting a keychain or micro camera inside the balloon facing up as it's lit. How you might ask? Well I say glue a small piece of metal to the bottom of the camera and a small magnet to a table. That way the camera will or at least should face up.

  • Comment removed

  • You have a great smile, Destin.

  • So what fun would happen if you filled the balloon with O2 or He instead of air?

  • Would love to see it burst with all the smoke in it, cool effect!

  • Who drew the lion? :O

  • Thumbs up for those Oompa Loompa Goggles.

  • Could it be said this proves the universe is a closed system?...every action has an equal and opposite reaction as in the match used the air in the balloon as fuel but the burning of the air created another gas to replace the lost air, therefore no expansion or contraction of the balloon. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

  • @SauronsEye It doesn't prove that it is a closed system, only that it could be. It doesn't necessarily have to be one.

  • Fire uses up oxygen but gives out an equal volume of carbon dioxide. The balloon is stretched so thin that heat transfer is as if it was not contained (so the heat won't cause the balloon to expand), or there is just not enough air being heated to inflate the balloon any further.

  • that is a big ass heat sync for such a small device!

  • Trippy.

  • Hey Shouldnt it shrink cause of the fire eats the air or does it just stay the same size

    nice Lion behind

  • Aslan approves.

  • The whole video I was waiting for a bang

  • cool

  • Nice lion.

  • That is an awesomely drawn lion on the background :)

  • 212th !!

  • I just got smarter. Thanks Destin

  • I wanted to see you pop the balloon after and see the smoke at high speed. :)

  • @cthatshit his vid before this one explains a little better about why the balloon dosnt oop

  • i think regardless of the transparency of the object, anything the laser passes thru/hit will absorb some of the energy and heat. but the balloon conducts the heat faster and the match as a lower ignition point. im sure the balloon will pop if the laser was turned on long enough. since popping balloon with lasers are pretty ordinary. never tried transparent balloons thou

  • @cthatshit It won't pop because the balloon is white, check the video before to know why.

  • I was the 1000th like!!! yea bitches!

  • not sure i understand why the balloon didn't pop.. Even though the balloon is transparent, the heat energy has to pass through that single point on the balloon's surface where the laser is pointing. Does this mean that the rubber conducts the heat to the inside surface ?

  • Yep, now all i need is a powerfull laser...

  • 9 persons are from Alderaan.

  • damn sounded like DSP was commentating lol

  • i know (and love) that song! All hail A Shell In The Pit!

  • At 1:37, you can tell that he's thinking, "Why doesn't it pop? We already went over that a dozen times in the last video..." haha

  • some casual books you got there...nonlinear optics, nice light reading.

  • You're like MythBuster but for getting smarter EVERYDAYYYYYYYYYY.

  • Can you imagine what the carpet would look like if you played with the cat with that laser? LOL

  • 0:50 its a GIANT. EGG! maybe its friendly!

  • was wondering why the balloon wasnt popping lol, then i remmebered what i learnt last week. :P

  • Nice Lion. ;)

  • good ;]

  • I really like your channel

  • I love how there's a giant map on the back wall just like you see in most Hollywood interpretations of evil villain lairs.

  • do that but up close and 10,000 fps

  • @vanityaffection

I did it at 1400 fps. Is that OK? I'll upload it sometime next week.

  • @destinws2 awesome! thank you

  • @destinws2 Cool!

  • @vanityaffection Why not the new MIT 1 trillion FPS?

  • @vanityaffection Yeah, maybe a job for the SlowMoGuys?

  • @vanityaffection pffft ,10000fps? that's for grade schoolers , should get your hands on the new 3 million fps video camera i herd about? :D .......

  • @vanityaffection do you realize just how much 10000 is?

  • fun video!

  • Trippy

  • Should have filled the balloon with O2

  • @Gerberbaby922 Fill it with H2

  • @96515325 Yup that's a way better suggestion. Gerberbaby is a dumbass. O2 would do nothing

  • @Gerberbaby922 Uh really? Nothing would happen. Oxygen is not combustible.

  • @snoopdiego9 Uh really? Oxygen is fuel for fire derp. The flame would get much bigger.

  • That looks more like a Condom

  • Nice heatsink on that laser.

  • @shaurz

    It needed it.

  • So far from what I've learned from Laser Month is that Balloons are the ultimate defense against laser technology, So when we finally do get space ships and we run into aliens like in star trek we cover our star ships with white and clear balloons to protect us from nasty laser beams.

  • @Kingjay814 no no no then we will be like the candle inside the balloon lol.

  • Thats awesome

  • If that was a nuclear reaction where mass is actually reduced, than the balloon would not stay the same size.

    and..

yes, I realize that would be absurd.

  • I can't figure out which of you has the cooler friend.

  • @pdxDavid

    Haha. I do.

  • @destinws2 hahaha, your saying that guy is cooler than you? com'on destin , we all know you are cooler!

  • i thought flame ate air why didnt the balloon shrink?

  • It didn't pop because it was magic!

  • YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!

  • I was holding my breath, ready for the small fright you get when a balloon pops.

  • Do some with some C-4 in a balloon. I wanna see what kinda goggles you come up with then!

  • That was wicked!! Thanks for sharing.

  • metal wire.. it should have been done...

  • When water gets really cold it will turn to Ice

  • What is the optical watt output of that laser and it's spectrum of light (how many nanometers)?

  • Ha!...called it before they even turned on the lazer...

  • Destin, you always show such amazing things, but fail to explain properly.. you should really take onboard teaching methods like vsauce (michael) uses, to make things more interesting. I could barely understand the guys explanation..

  • Great, now make a portal gun to create portals to pass the lazer through.

  • Love the videos, Destin. Thanks!

  • IM BLIND!!!

  • I wanted to see them let the smoke out of the balloon :c

  • @LeNZian

    Check back tomorrow.

  • wait i'm confused. how did that happen?

  • @rebchin123 what they did man is used a high intensity laser about 150 millwatts . then because its a white balloon it absorbs no heat or has a high albedo so the laser passes through and lights the match. if anyone thinks im wrong feel free to correct me.but thats pretty much it

  • @TheMattwasherein1992 150mW? How do you figure? It looks like a 405nm, and you don't need that large housing and the huge heatsink for a 150mW 405nm.

  • @TheMattwasherein1992

    3000 milliwatts (optical)

  • @TheMattwasherein1992 its 3000mw of 445nm, the camera picks it up as a bit violet.

  • Maybe try 2 or more matches?

  • @carlitonsp1 you exhale more than just Co2, the oxygen content goes from like 22% to 15%

  • Wait a minute, how could the match burn? There's no Oxygen in the Balloon? If you blew into it, it should only be CO2.

  • @Carlitonsp1 even though you breathe out to expand a balloon there is still oxygen in your breath. the exchange isnt 100% efficient.

Also the o in CO2 is oxygen :)

  • @Carlitonsp1 wow.....
