"La Habanera" was an UFA production, and anyone who knows their German film history knows that after 1933, UFA was a Nazi propaganda machine. "La Habanera," though not as blatant as some of the worst examples, was no exception. If you really think about it, there's some pretty nasty ideology that drives the film's core.

zarah's grandparents were not Jewish, nor was she a Nazi sympathizer. I have been in contact with Paul Zeiler who knew her personally and has written some books on her. I've been a fan of hers for over 30 years myself. Zarah made films in Germany because she was what the studios were looking for and she was near her native Sweden.
