I watched a documentary on this and apparently the reverse thrust was deployed 12 seconds after touchdown.

Actually it wasn't the first officers fault. Due to the weather conditions the Captain was at the controls and he missed the TDZ by a hundred meters or so and he deployed the reverse thrust too late. Also apparently they forgot to arm the speed brake.
