I've been checking out the XDm since the first came out. I finally have "ME Money" to buy one. I was set on the XDm .40 in the 4.5, but now after watching all the reviews on youtube I have decided to go with the XDm .45 in the 5.25. I am a bow hunter and want something to carry other than my Alaskan fishing back up AMT .22 AUTO MAG II. Thanks for all the great reviews.

@MrDaajman , along with a barrel swap, you would need to change out the slide because of the bolt face size difference. and depending on the load you may need to swap out the spring.

Hey Hickok45, I heard that the trigger pull with these XDms are around 7lbs. trigger pull, which is pretty high for a "competition" gun. Springfield will swap the trigger out to a 3.5lbs for another $200, but shouldn't it come with a lighter trigger pull?

IPSC Production class has a max barrel length of 5", so these guns lands you in standard class and then you have to compete against highly tuned STI 2011's :-( Same goes for the glock 34/35

357 sig replaced all three calibers for me. I was always hoping for a Domino/Rube Goldberg setup and a trick shot to get it started. I have done it with Mousetrap and it works.

@Antiks72 Hate to tell you, but Springfields XD(m)s are very different from Glocks. They have different sights, loaded chamber indicator, grip saftey, hold more rounds, and the internals are fairly different.

Around here where I live they run about $650 I think, but if you shop for one at Gander Mountain they have usually $100 dollar mark ups on any firearm so it would be around $750 there. Several folks on the forum I'm a member of have gotten them for around $550-$600. Used I'm not sure what they run currently.

hah, that little operator error with the 9mm reminds me of the time my friend accidentally used a Beretta 92 mag inside of an XD9. The crazy thing is that he managed to get 3 shots off before the magazine started falling out.

I really like the 45, but don't know if I want the glock 21 over the springfield. I have a glock 30sf and an xdm 40. I like the feel of both, but I like the metal material of the xdm more. It just looks and feels of better quality. I love both guns pretty much equally.

@JESNAUD21 The .45 ACP operates at a relatively low maximum chamber pressure rating of 21,000 psi (145 MPa) (compared to 35,000 psi/240 MPa for 9mm Parabellum and .40 S&W, 37,500 psi/260 MPa for 10mm Auto, 40,000 psi/280 MPa for .357 SIG), which due to a low bolt thrust helps extend service life of weapons in which it is fired.

@travis296 All of the brass diamentions are the same between .270 win and 30-06 except for the case mouth. It is even possible to neck .270 brass up to 30-06, not something I recomend ,but it is possible. Alot of calibers are like that another example is .308win. and .243 win, .300 WBY and .340 WBY magnums and the list goes on. As for firing .270 in a 30-06 may cause the brass to get stuck in the chamber or cause other damage to the gun due to the space left in the chamber.

Cross caliber shooting happens very easily during long sessions with piles of guns and mags on the bench. I once launched a 9mm from a .40 barrel by mistake. It went, "Thwug" instead of "Bang" and bounced on the ground half way to the 25 yd berm. Shell casing all blown apart, of course.
