SNES is inferior to the Genesis version, it runs in a lower resolution which is zoomed in as well, SNES runs in 256x224, while Genesis\Mega Drive runs in 320x224 like the arcade version, though of course without the scaling.

Anybody saying they think the Snes version is inferior to the MD you fucking lying to yourself. Music and sound effect plus Zoom in. Genesis was ok but could've been better especially with the sound.

PCE Arcade SUper CD-ROM version is better than both the SNES and Megadrive/Genesis versions.

I forgot to mention that the sound is absolutely atrocious on the SNES version, in both music and effects. Genesis knew how to make good use of their soundchip.

Gameplay is definitely better on the Genesis version compared to the SNES. Its really freakin' hard to pull of any kind of special move on the SNES and the AI is so cheap on the Super Nes too.

@jlenoconel That was the way with most SNK ports to the snes. After StreetFighter 2 with its silky smooth moves you'd think SNK would have made that a priority.

I like the Art of Fighting Series, but the gameplay was pretty bad for the first 2 games.

I've played the SNES version & I rated it pretty low, because of it's rather unresponsive gameplay.

the snes version is clearly better than the Genesis but the neo geo at the time was worlds ahead of both of them, it was a 24bit console and brought arcade perfect games into the home, the only problem with it was the insane price tag!

I have the SNES cart. I have lots of the SNES fighters in my collection. I might sound like an old timer, but that generation was the ultimate thing. Only until now that Capcom is giving the terrible shit known as SF"4" are we experiencing something similar, even though of a lower quality.

@BillyCauseyjr "better presentation" makes not a better game. "More moves" is arguable when 3S has even more without ridiculous zoom in gimmicks. "better music" has nothing to do with better fighting and "a handful of characters" which haven't been changed in 19 years and the new ones are terrible.

Kids these days, they'll pay for anything. You are a good example.

If you want to have a valid point, use replay value and don't say x game is better than y only because x is next-gen when y isn't. That's stupid.

@BillyCauseyjr You fail. I never said there weren't any good fighters after the SNES time. In fact, 3S, 2I and HnK are the best fighters out there and neither were for the SNES. What I DID say is that the SNES was the ultimate console for fighting games because it had a very strong lineup... neither of the 3 games above appeared on a console known for its strong fighters lineup, do they? DC and PS2 don't have as many fighters as the SNES did.

(and that you know nothin about the neo geo, it was not a console per se, but rahter a home version of a multi arcade system.... but at the same time still a console., the fact that every game on it was a cart containing an arcade board is the reason for it's price as well as SNK exclusivly releasing games for it.)

So, you jump way too early to conclusions, and therefore you fail at researching. So what, NeoGeo is STILL a console like everything else. You paid the price and installed it at home, plugged it into your TV set, grabbed your controller and played the games. Sounds like a console, like a NES.

I don't think either console version played Like the Arcade version really but they were good games either way. I personally preferred the Megadrive home console version it just seemed to play better from where I stand but the Arcade original was the best version.

I still own my SNES copy and its looks better than the one used in this video. The one here looks too blocky and washed out. What emulator did you use?

Is there any particular reason as to why you prefer the Mega Drive/Genesis version over the SNES?

SNES advantages: Has zooming effect, added Desperation Attacks, extended ending.

SNES disadvantages: Colors look slightly washed out.

MegaDrive advantages: Vibrant colors, good music.

MegaDrive disadvantages: Gameplay is different from the arcade version, no zooming effect. Easy setting only availible in the Japanese release, NOT in the American or European release.

Yes the SNES does have those advantages but it's lost graphical detail to keep those advantages.

yeah, one reason is i collect japanese mega drive games (better packaging as snes) but i also dont like the music and sound effects in the snes version, shure the quality of sound and music r better on the snes but not as "clear" as the MD ones. the zoom effect on the snes was a very bad idea... btw i also prefer the MD version of samurai shodown... better sprites and again the same clearer music & effect reason ; ) anyway i also got my neo geo MVS versions ^_^

@Retro1Gamer Since when the SDMs were exclusive to the SNES? The arcade had them too. I remember pulling them out on ocassion. Unless you're talking about the rest of the characters, which I never got to play as in the arcades.

not many neo scaling (zoom) games use dule pharallax scroling, i guess the reason the MD version had it was due to the fact it had no zoom effect.
