Why so many people use the beat from 1 song and then the sound from another song and call it a "mashup" I feel that you gotta mix both songs together to call it a mashup. Zero parts from Tatu in this song. I agree the beat goes really well with the E.T. song. But still I miss Tatu parts.
All you've done is taked the instrumental for one, and printed the other acapella over the top at an altered speed. A proper mashup has bits of both instrumentals, and DEFINATELY both vocals.

I was just sick of searching through these Mash-ups, when almost all of them have got Perry singing over t.A.T.u's instrumental, I don't really consider it art when it doesn't really stretch in terms of customisation, but like you said: it isn't my job to define an art form. Art is the interpretor's interpretation of such.
@FreekinEkin2 Redefinition and transformation IS art when it is done right. BTW if you want one with BOTH vocals, there is v=2hmdd0Ns0KY (feat. Kristina Maria and tATu) which I also made to satisfy the diehards who wanted TATU in the track. The first version I make is always simple A+B so I can start simple and go further if demand warrants it. If I want to include both vocals I do this in a "definitive" version.

How do you know what tempo to change E.T. to? I agree, when i first heard E.T. song i thought it sounded familiar and i had to look up tatu and thought they sounded to similar. I like both songs but now a days theres no talent in music, its all auto tune( thanks T-Pain) and copied with no shame cause there studio made and cant come up with there own ideas. You want to know how to tell if a song is ripped off?
Take the suspect song and play it on top of the one you think has been ripped off of. No editing, minimal speed changes. If both songs sound eerily similar, chances are they are, indeed, similar. If they sound like a god-awful mess? Then chances are there has been no ripping off of any songs.
You want to know what my theory is? Chances are, a lot of songs that are 'ripped off' are just coincidence. Look enough, and you can find them anywhere.
@ketinakat What about the Ferrari Snowday ("Time Of Your Life") and Katy Perry ("California Gurls") track resemblance, shown in v=QBNL-fMwiwQ ? Katy Perry's track was first, btw. The BPM's the same, the key's the same, the chord progression's the same (for the most part), the rhythm of the beginning part is the same (and somewhat in the chorus), and the drum patterns are very similar. I already counted the major similarities on one hand and about to count them on another. Is that a ripoff?

Taking the melody alone can save you days of work and this melody is a deffinitely a rip off, like many other melodies

Plus like some other people have already pointed out, there's only so many different keys a song can be in so of course there's going to be songs that sound the same. If it is a rip off in this instance, we'll never know but let's just say it's coincidence until proven otherwise.
I completely agree with Kornykid127. Yes, they sound very similar, but guys, there are only so many keys you can put a song in. No one STOLE anything, there are very obvious differences. How many rock songs do you think use VERY similar guitar riffs? Everything's been done before, of course something was going to be similar.
People the melodies are similar, but as you can tell they had to speed up katy perrys vocals and repeat some of the lines for it to fit. Pop songs are generally built the same way with song structure, because its catchy.
You can do this same thing with tons of pop songs.
Especially in pop music this accurs a lot. Because instead of thinking about drum and guitar riffs, they build up a song out of a beat, synths and a catchy melody. So this happens easily...

I didn't notice this at all when I first bought the album, but I would have noticed the similarities even then; I love t.A.T.u. and I would have noticed it before. But even now, I just hear a song that sounds really good with the background of another song, nothing else.

I agree, when i first heard E.T. song i thought it sounded familiar and i had to look up tatu and thought they sounded to similar. I like both songs but now a days theres no talent in music, its all auto tune( thanks T-Pain) and copied with no shame cause there studio made and cant come up with there own ideas. You want to know how to tell if a song is ripped off?
Take the suspect song and play it on top of the one you think has been ripped off of. No editing, minimal speed changes. If both songs sound eerily similar, chances are they are, indeed, similar. If they sound like a god-awful mess? Then chances are there has been no ripping off of any songs.
You want to know what my theory is? Chances are, a lot of songs that are 'ripped off' are just coincidence. Look enough, and you can find them anywhere.

@ketinakat What about the Ferrari Snowday ("Time Of Your Life") and Katy Perry ("California Gurls") track resemblance, shown in v=QBNL-fMwiwQ ? Katy Perry's track was first, btw. The BPM's the same, the key's the same, the chord progression's the same (for the most part), the rhythm of the beginning part is the same (and somewhat in the chorus), and the drum patterns are very similar. I already counted the major similarities on one hand and about to count them on another. Is that a ripoff?

@ketinakat Your theory doesn't prove anything... You can rip off the idea of melody alone, which doesn't mean you have to copy the exact pattern.. Two melodies combined with each other can sound like a mess if the beat isn't in the same sync range...Beat sync as you probably know doesn't prove that a melody isn't ripped off.. Taking the melody alone can save you days of work and this melody is a deffinitely a rip off, like many other melodies

Okay so if one person liked Katy Perry AND tatu, is it stealing or will you say it's coincidence? Plus like some other people have already pointed out, there's only so many different keys a song can be in so of course there's going to be songs that sound the same. If it is a rip off in this instance, we'll never know but let's just say it's coincidence until proven otherwise.

I completely agree with Kornykid127. Yes, they sound very similar, but guys, there are only so many keys you can put a song in. No one STOLE anything, there are very obvious differences. "Pop songs are generally built the same way with song structure, because its catchy." is exactly right. The melodies are slightly different. How many rock songs do you think use VERY similar guitar riffs? Everything's been done before, of course something was going to be similar.

People the melodies are similar, but as you can tell they had to speed up katy perrys vocals and repeat some of the lines for it to fit. Pop songs are generally built the same way with song structure, because its catchy.
You can do this same thing with tons of pop songs.

I have very little doubt that Katy Perry or her song writers didn't realize that the melody would be so close to tATu's, but that's nothing new. Pop artists look for catchy tunes all the time in other songs that just didn't make it big. Now Katy is gonna give tATu more exposure than they every got before.

There is only a handful of chords, and along with that a handful of chord sequences, No legal action can be taken from using the same chords. Katy perry's song "ET", using different lyrics, different tempo, and a different chord sequences but is in the same key.
