As a Urological Surgeon, we use an instrument called a Cystoscope. It is basically a long rigid metallic tube approximately 7-8mm wide and inserted under general anaesthesia. A smallr calibre flexible cystoscope can be passed under local anaesthesia. Surprisingly, although it sounds painful, remarkably objective published pain scores are not too bad.
I have to have this done next week and I'll tell you right now that I would rather take a good swift kick to the nuts rather then do this again! This makes the second time I have had to have this done.
The tumour was approximately 4-5mm in size. Hence it would have been unlikely to have shown up on USS. However, as I am sure you know, USS is operator dependent. Generally speaking it is widely accepted that cystoscopy has the greatest sensitivity in diagnosing bladder tumours.
@Uroemerge ok thanks, what symptoms did they have? I am a 27 year old male, none smoker, I have microscopic haematuria (only found it because I changed doctors and had the dipstick test) Ive had u's and e's done, infection tests, renal and bladder ultrasound and everything was normal. So I am convinced I have a small bladder tumour like this one. what symptoms would this one have presented itself?
god what is that song..? i know it from something

Dear smcnottz
Hi - thanks for the posting
Clearly it is difficult to give medical advice formally....
If u require formal advice, I am happy to give - please feel free to visit ThanksDr
However, this case was under surveillance for known TCC Bladder
Also please bear in mind risk of false positive from urine dipstix for blood
Cheers
