This is really powerful stuff... The music is spot-on, the clown's make-up is scary and I think the underlying terror is that you must trust those clowns to fix Peewee's bike. They hardly portray a professional image!!! I think that this particular scene is a masterpiece, perhaps for the wrong reasons. Even the music is scary and with a repetitive beat that gets right into your head. Uuuggh!

At 1:16, when the claw-grabber thing comes down to pick up the bike, it *looks* almost like it doesn't even clamp around any part of the bike - and when I was a kid, it bothered the hell out of me, and I would point it out to other people, every time I watched the movie...Anyway, after watching that part a few times, just now, I realized that it DID, in fact, go through the center of the frame! I was mistaken for all these years!

I guess it's just a bad camera angle, which makes it hard to see.

I watched this scene as a child. When the doctor pulled down his mask to reveal what I now see to be facepaint, I actually thought he had a mouthful of jagged shark teeth. It's still extremely disturbing, but this scene was way more terrifying back then. High octane nightmare fuel.
