@ohio77775 I think that the first metal group was Blue Cheer with Vincibus Eruptum in 1968! Then Sabbath, Led Zep, and so on! But you are right...James is taking rock and metal back to where it came from. James cd reminds me of groups like Steppenwolf, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Grass Roots and CCR.

@slaytera666 Outcast is glam metal, Liberate is alt metal & Back For More is funk metal. So there's a little metal, it's just that most of it didn't make the album. Liberate & Back For More are bonus tracks exclusive to iTunes. MOABD, more than any other Idol album, shows the struggle between Idols & their labels for artistic freedom, especially the rockers, but Durbin is clearly fighting harder than all the Idol rockers. His band is all metal though, so we'll hear more of his metal side live.

@Durban4Durbin I would assume that the american idol big wigs may have influenced this a bit. Good music like I said, but I was dissappointed that he didnt write as much on this album compared to other metal influenced acts who essestially write everything. I do see him and the band growing together pretty well. I just want one BALLS OUT metal song. Doesnt need to be like slayer, pantera, or even metallica. Just something like Daughtry's heavier songs on PCP. The best is yet to come from him.

@slaytera666 Well, for one thing, James didnt really have a ton of time to write more songs! He did this whole album in a span of two weeks time! Dont forget, he was on tour up until a couple weeks before making this album. I think hes done good with it. Sure its not as heavy as id like either but i realize hes trying to expand his fan base and show that he can be diverse and not just heavy metal. I do agree that the best is yet to come!

@horsenaround time constraints & lack of his own resources were definitely the main factors, yes. In all honesty the only time artists have total creative control is when they compose & produce everything themselves. Durbin at this stage is more focused on live performance than composing epic material, which I think is a smart strategy ATM. On stage, away from the music execs, we're going to hear exactly how these songs are meant to sound, the way he wanted them to sound.

@slaytera666 ITA, it's good that you recognize the factors that prevented MOABD from being heavier and prevented him from writing more of his own material. Other metalhead fans have already given up on him which I think is unfair. He's a new artist who will learn what works best and what doesn't over time. I hope he and his band get signed as a proper band, and he'll definitely have more time & resources for album #2 which will be much better, and he'll probably write more of the songs himself.

I do not like heavy metal; AMAZINGLY, i must love anything james sings because this is really Good. I was worried a little about the Heavy metal on the album cuz I am not into that, and i have pre ordered the album.
