Thanks for the hand-held video, Airbuzz, augmented-by some Jussi's best recordings. I don't think that the man expected THIS-much appreciation and attention, many years after his early death, but it's very obvious that his legacy is SO-secure. .... I suppose/guess that you and others are aware that there's still a Bjorling Society in America.
@jhb134 I'm glad you liked the video. I've heard that there is a Bjorling Society in America, it's so nice that his legacy lives on! Not only here in Sweden, but around the world it seems.
@Airbuzz - It's possible that Bjorling's reputation has increased, since his death, in America and elsewhere. There are a handful of tenors who can be rated-as THE BEST, and Bjorling, Melchior, Caruso ... and a few others ... are always at the top of the list. Retrospective has a way of determining the BEST (or even worst) of all, and the aforementioned 3 are often the consensus choice, of the former.
@Airbuzz - I think, by now, that Jussi B might be the most-respected, most-loved tenor ... overall .... of all, worldwide. Despite some personal peccadilloes, his musicianship and that, UNIQUE tone ... and all the other qualities .... overshadow any shortcomings. .... Of course, great musicians who die young can garner our respect even more-intensely, but Jussi deserves his posthumous praise, anytime.
Thank you for this visit to Jussi Bjorling's grave and museum I was nurtured on Jussi's singing since my earliest days and at 74 I still get great enjoyment from his recordings. May he rest in peace.
Thank you so much for this rememberence of what i would say was the the worlds greatest Tenor even to this day, we know that Caruso was also a great singer and Paverotti to but no one in my eyes was as great as this. To be able to listen to his music and at the same time see how he lived only you with this vidio have made it possible, i am a great fan of Opera music and first heard the Beautiful voice of Jussi Bjorling when i was only ten years old, i am now 60 and still listening...Mulchames

i think your comment is i little bit to romantic and so is this video but still it has to be said Björling one of the greatest tenors that have ever lived but i think it is possible to be able to hear alot more voices like this there just has to be some big changes in school and culture
Brachiale, I think Björling's talent is one in a billion. The concept of a splendid natural talent being taught in the art of singing from day one by a father who himself was an opera singer has to be very rare, to say the least. And the result was spectacular as we can all clearly hear. But I agree that we should put more effort into school and culture to form new singers and defend the tradition of skilled Swedish opera singers.
actually it is not only about opera singing i can make the statement that Bel Canto is the only true form of singing all other forms are just some form of masturbation i can agree that the really good are rare and i think it is because bel canto is a science ant you have to approach learning it as a scientist
@Brachiale I agree to some degree but you don't understand what Bel Canto singing is. It is actually the furthest thing away from science and scientist's. It is nature itself and lives within everyone. It is actually science that has almost wiped out the one true way of singing. Still, some teachers exist today who are from the true lineage. The secret is in simplicity, the spoken word. There was no rarity of good singers before WW2 as the true teaching was still plentyful.
@AmhranaiAlainn well nature is the origin of science but its man desire to improve nature that is science you have a to cartesian separation of it cause the nature of classical arts are that of a matter of search for truth like that of the plato dialouges or the prometheus bound were fire is mans creative ability
@Brachiale In singing, the search for the truth - if you are lucky to find the right guide - will bring you to its source ... the simplicity of using the natural spoken word. This is what Bel Canto artistry is founded on. Jussi Bjorling was taught how to use the voice naturally by his father David. Singing is not about the voice, but about how you use your voice. The more you leave the voice alone the greater it will shine, without effort & with its full range, power & beauty.
Too romantic? Christ, can i not have a crush on Mr. Bjorling in peace! And i'm not one of these ppl who readily transfers their affection from one person to another. Having said that, NO, there will be no other Bjorling to me. He's my love forever... You're just jealous lol!

Thank you for posting this; especially for those of us who may never be able to go to Stora Tuna to pay tribute to this incomparable artist - and wonderful person.
Well done. I have to say I enjoyed hearing his version of Una Furtiva Lagrima, it is hauntingly beautiful as it should be. I have a collection of nearly all his songs but the recordings are old and not so clear. I am amazed by his phrasing and diction that matches the spirit of his songs so well. Time for a new CD
griffcats, it's too bad that Jussi died so early that we don't have any high-tech mastertapes. Just imagine Björling recording a 5.1 channel SACD or a concert on Blu-ray with lossless PCM sound...
A lovely tribute to a beloved tenor. I cannot imagine what this experience was like for you, Airbuzz. I greatly appreciate your celebration of his surreal artistry.
Thank you bjorlingopera. Quite a nick you've got there! Yes, I've been a big fan for a long time, so it was a great feeling to go to Björling's home town at last, and visit his and his family's graves. I'm glad you liked the video!
Airbuzz. Yes, the first 2 times I went to the Met as a young man starting my love of opera, I heard JB. First was 11/16 Mon.nite, a Cavalleria with Simionato and then the following Sat. matinee,11/21, a Tosca with Maria Curtis-Verna. Amazingly, I have a CD of that same Cav.performance which is available only outside the US on Myto label. That Tosca I have on audio tape from the Saturday aft.radio broadcast which I acquired sometime in the 1980's.
That's just amazing fernhill! Jussi in Tosca, that would have been nice to see and hear live! I've seen Tosca once, but the Cavaradossi wasn't exactly in the same league as Björling, but then in all fairness, not many are...
First, thanks airbuzz for posting this. I heard Jussi twice in Nov. 1959 at the old Met,here in New York, less than a year before he died. He was and remains the most spine tingling of all the great tenors. What a gorgeous voice!
You actually heard and saw Jussi live? That's really great! I'm very jealous! I think he did some of his best work in 1959 (Like Turandot and the Swedish O, holy night recording), despite that fact that he was very ill. Seems the illness could touch his body but not his talent.
JOlsson01, I think the singing in it is absolutely superb! I can't imagine how anyone can sing better than that. Jussi was a true genius. Thank you for your input!
Yucks!I really did spell it like a real ass-pun intended. Can't wait for it to disappear among a deluge of reviews. Thanks for pointing it out,as I really didn't need to sleep tonight.Neither he nor I are so inclined,so the typo was inexcussable.
P.S.-Now is that one or two s's? Once again-no pun intended.LOL!
Such a wonderful tribute to the Beloved Bjorling. Thank you. You have such a super collection posted. I have almost everything he did, but it is so nice to find it on the tube which is easier. I just wonder why no one has posted (or I can't find it) his killer rendition of Ah, fuyez douce image from Manon. The tears spurt from my eyes. I have it, but don't have the faintest idea how you put stuff on here. Thank you again.
He was a GOD!!!! Flawless perfection. We shall not hear the likes of him again. There is noone of his caliber today. His voice touches the soul. It is fillled with emotion and what a glorious top.what an artist!!1 Every singer should listen to him and learn what the art of singing is all about
Oh, singers HAVE been listening for decades and it isn't like tenors haven't TRIED to emulate him. But the voice was one of a kind and nearly impossible to imitate. Truly a unique gift.
pavy456, I suspect just about any tenor will feel angst if comparing himself to Björling. He was unique, but do the best you can and it might go a long way!
Thanks!Jussi is to me like a member of the family. He was played for thousands of hours at our home when i was a child and i still love him so much!Where is this grave?Who knows where one can hear his son Rolf.I read in a book by Welser Möst about him!
Hey Alejandro! Thank you! I have posted a video where you can at least see Rolf and hear him talk, but no singing yet I'm afraid. Jussi's grave is in Borlänge in mid Sweden!
Thank you for this wonderful video of Rolf. I met and sang with Rolf in Chicago before Jussi died. He was a friend. I also shook hands with Jussi at a carnagie Hall concert in 1950. I was a member of The Augustana Choir that shared a concert with Jussi and his wife, Anna Lisa(sp).
That's correct zigvog. There's references to children (and just when he sings "barn" (child/children) the video shows his son's grave, which I was especially pleased with...), and buried fathers, and churches, so I thought it was very fitting for the video indeed!
zigvog, I'm glad you liked the video! The song at the beginning is called "Sverige" (Sweden) And it's a song about... Well, Sweden. Nothing more nothing less. I know Jussi liked to sing it, and it's a song that would make me cry like a little girl if I would move away from here and listened to it ;)
jblo9: I'm sorry to hear that you are ill, I'm happy though that I could perhaps make you feel better for a moment. Thank you so much for your very moving comment. I do hope you will get better my friend. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for uploading this video :) The first song really touched my heart... Opera touched my heart the first time I heard it, and still does
Airbuzz, thank you so much for this great video!!!
As someone else said, this is a place many will never get to see. Also, a beautiful recording of Una furtiva lagrima. Believe it or not, I am not really an opera fan, but Jussi captured my heart and soul when I heard his recording of "Ideale".It made me an instant fan ! If you have never heard it, do it!. I will even e mail you the file.
You have my endless gratitude for sharing this with us. I live in S. California and the chances of my either visiting the Stora Tuna Kyrka or Jussi's museum is exactly zero. Getting to see the interior of the museum and some of its treasures meant so much. The same regarding Jussi and his family's places of interment. His mother, Ester is also buried there...
I'm so glad you liked the video! When I went to the museum there was actually a group of Americans there, from the American Jussi Björling Society!
I don't think Anna-Lisa is buried with Jussi. As far as I know she later remarried, and I suppose she may be buried with her second husband. I did find it a bit strange that Rolf is buried with his grandmother, who died long before he was born, rather than with his father.
I have come back again to have another look and once again it has hit my emotions. I myself, using one finger, froze the frames. Thank you once again for this lovely tribute.
The jerky unfocused movement of the camera annoyed me no end. An otherwise top recap of Jussi Bjorling's resting place should have been fixed with appropriate pauses--full stops--at key exposure points such as when first zooming onto his grave! The frame should have been frozen there for 10 seconds or more while the viewer read and pondered the marker but instead it lurched this way and that and the result was grievously compromised. It should be immediately be re-done adequately, properly.
blakemooney, I used a cheap digital camera, because that's what I had available. It was the first time I used it, turned out to be very jerky and there's no zoom. I know what the video looks like, no need to rub it in. The video is bad, but I did the best I could and figured that it would be interesting for some people to see it even though it's lacking in quality.
Each burial marker should be made into a still frame! It should be held for 10 seconds while people read the info on it. Few people have seen this cemetery or know of the reverence that Bjorling is held in his homeland and many other places as well besides those of us on youtube and other similar places who know something about the man and singer. The world owes such a person! Presidents will come and go, Gates and Buffet and even our top Generals disappear. Jussi Bjorling will live forever!
I didn't know about the 10 second rule. I'll keep that in mind the next time I go there.
Like you say, few people have seen this grave. I wanted to film it to show the site and the museum to people. I never intended to make a cinematic masterpiece, just to let you guys know what the church, cemetary and Jussi's grave look like. That's what I did. Take it or leave it.
This is a most wonderful video compilation. The blending of the simple visual footage and the music is perfect. It reduced me to tears. It is so emotionally evocative. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you so much for those kind words Inca! I did the best I could with the simple digi-cam and my limited experience of making videos.
I thought that to Björling fans it would be interesting to see the place where Jussi and his family are buried, and the museum, even if the video isn't top quality. And your comment made it all worth it! Thanks again!:)
Oh, and what I found touching was the news bill(if that's a correct word) that simply said "JUSSI DÖD" (Död = dead) Proves that he was well loved by the people when they only have to write "Jussi" rather than Jussi Björling.
When I was in the church of Stora Tuna I also thought about the story I read in a book about Jussi. How he came to visit his brother Gösta's grave and after having been to the grave site, destroyed by grief, walked into the empty church and sang his heart out.
Turned out that a man who was a caretaker there was in the church and heard Jussi's singing, and later told that it was incredible to hear. I'm sure Jussi put his whole being into his song that time in the church, singing for his brother.

First, thanks airbuzz for posting this. I heard Jussi twice in Nov. 1959 at the old Met,here in New York, less than a year before he died. He was and remains the most spine tingling of all the great tenors. What a gorgeous voice!
fernhill36 4 years ago
You actually heard and saw Jussi live? That's really great! I'm very jealous! I think he did some of his best work in 1959 (Like Turandot and the Swedish O, holy night recording), despite that fact that he was very ill. Seems the illness could touch his body but not his talent.
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Such a sweet, sweet, and magical voice. I simply cannot get Bjorling's rendition of Una Fortiva Lagrima out of my head.
Thank you airbuzz for the wonderful tribute.
JOlsson01 4 years ago
JOlsson01, I think the singing in it is absolutely superb! I can't imagine how anyone can sing better than that. Jussi was a true genius. Thank you for your input!

as an admirer of bjorling i must thank airbuzz so much for his wonderful film.
i know i am speaking for fans of this great singer everywhere when i write how pompous and patronising are the comments of blakemooney.
once again airbuzz thankyou very much

He was unique in the anals of tenors that touched the hearts and souls of so many.We all love you dearly.Bravo.
paulostroff99 4 years ago
That would be be "annals" with TWO n's!! LOLOL. "Anals" makes reference to a certain unmentionable body part!! :-O

Once again-no pun intended.LOL!
paulostroff99 4 years ago
Such a wonderful tribute to the Beloved Bjorling. Thank you. You have such a super collection posted. I have almost everything he did, but it is so nice to find it on the tube which is easier. I just wonder why no one has posted (or I can't find it) his killer rendition of Ah, fuyez douce image from Manon. The tears spurt from my eyes. I have it, but don't have the faintest idea how you put stuff on here. Thank you again.

You're welcome ceb2633. Thanks for your support! I will post more Björling material when I get around to it. I think I have some more stuff to post!

He was a GOD!!!! Flawless perfection. We shall not hear the likes of him again. There is noone of his caliber today. His voice touches the soul. It is fillled with emotion and what a glorious top.what an artist!!1 Every singer should listen to him and learn what the art of singing is all about
Giovannifabuloso 4 years ago
Oh, singers HAVE been listening for decades and it isn't like tenors haven't TRIED to emulate him. But the voice was one of a kind and nearly impossible to imitate. Truly a unique gift.
kmillard 4 years ago
what you say of this voice is so so true
im a lyric tenor i have a wounderful voice an d i thank god for that. but when i lisson to this voice it makes me want to cry.
i would have loved to have seen him live
a voice like this will never come again god bless him.excuse my spelling.

pavy456, I suspect just about any tenor will feel angst if comparing himself to Björling. He was unique, but do the best you can and it might go a long way!

Thank you Priscilla, I'm glad you liked it! And yes, Jussi's singing is very emotional indeed!

Thanks!Jussi is to me like a member of the family. He was played for thousands of hours at our home when i was a child and i still love him so much!Where is this grave?Who knows where one can hear his son Rolf.I read in a book by Welser Möst about him!
Alejandro914 4 years ago
Hey Alejandro! Thank you! I have posted a video where you can at least see Rolf and hear him talk, but no singing yet I'm afraid. Jussi's grave is in Borlänge in mid Sweden!
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Thank you for this wonderful video of Rolf. I met and sang with Rolf in Chicago before Jussi died. He was a friend. I also shook hands with Jussi at a carnagie Hall concert in 1950. I was a member of The Augustana Choir that shared a concert with Jussi and his wife, Anna Lisa(sp).

A remarkably apt song, with its closing reference to a churchyard and burial ground, if the English lyrics are an accurate translation.
zigvog 4 years ago
That's correct zigvog. There's references to children (and just when he sings "barn" (child/children) the video shows his son's grave, which I was especially pleased with...), and buried fathers, and churches, so I thought it was very fitting for the video indeed!
Airbuzz 4 years ago
This is a very moving video, particularly for those who knew or had read the sad family history of the Bjoerlings.
The song at the beginning of the video is most poignant.
zigvog 4 years ago
zigvog, I'm glad you liked the video! The song at the beginning is called "Sverige" (Sweden) And it's a song about... Well, Sweden. Nothing more nothing less. I know Jussi liked to sing it, and it's a song that would make me cry like a little girl if I would move away from here and listened to it ;)

Hey thegoalie66, thanks a lot! Yes, that recording of Una furtiva lagrima is absolutely perfect, one of my absolute favorite Jussi recordings!
I don't think I've heard "Ideale" I would like to hear it for sure. I'll contact you! Thanks again!

OOOOOPPPPSSS..I see that you did include Ester, who is interred with her grandson, Rolf. Sorry!
JussiBjorling1960 4 years ago
Oh...I meant to ask...did you find any indication that Anna Lisa Bjorling is now interred with or next to her husband?
JussiBjorling1960 4 years ago
You have my endless gratitude for sharing this with us. I live in S. California and the chances of my either visiting the Stora Tuna Kyrka or Jussi's museum is exactly zero. Getting to see the interior of the museum and some of its treasures meant so much. The same regarding Jussi and his family's places of interment. His mother, Ester is also buried there...
Once again, thank you so much!
Blessings~

Hello Melissa!

Why are people so mean as to not give ratings?
inca48 4 years ago
I have come back again to have another look and once again it has hit my emotions. I myself, using one finger, froze the frames. Thank you once again for this lovely tribute.
inca48 4 years ago
inca, that's what I was thinking before. Why didn't Blake just use the pause button? Oh well. Be that as it may.
So glad you like the video!:)
Airbuzz 4 years ago
The jerky unfocused movement of the camera annoyed me no end. An otherwise top recap of Jussi Bjorling's resting place should have been fixed with appropriate pauses--full stops--at key exposure points such as when first zooming onto his grave! The frame should have been frozen there for 10 seconds or more while the viewer read and pondered the marker but instead it lurched this way and that and the result was grievously compromised. It should be immediately be re-done adequately, properly.
blakemooney 4 years ago
blakemooney, I used a cheap digital camera, because that's what I had available. It was the first time I used it, turned out to be very jerky and there's no zoom. I know what the video looks like, no need to rub it in. The video is bad, but I did the best I could and figured that it would be interesting for some people to see it even though it's lacking in quality.
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Each burial marker should be made into a still frame! It should be held for 10 seconds while people read the info on it. Few people have seen this cemetery or know of the reverence that Bjorling is held in his homeland and many other places as well besides those of us on youtube and other similar places who know something about the man and singer. The world owes such a person! Presidents will come and go, Gates and Buffet and even our top Generals disappear. Jussi Bjorling will live forever!
blakemooney 4 years ago
I didn't know about the 10 second rule. I'll keep that in mind the next time I go there.
Like you say, few people have seen this grave. I wanted to film it to show the site and the museum to people. I never intended to make a cinematic masterpiece, just to let you guys know what the church, cemetary and Jussi's grave look like. That's what I did. Take it or leave it.
Airbuzz 4 years ago
NOOOOOOOOOOO! It won't load! I must see this.

This is a most wonderful video compilation. The blending of the simple visual footage and the music is perfect. It reduced me to tears. It is so emotionally evocative. Thank you for posting this.
inca48 4 years ago
Thank you so much for those kind words Inca! I did the best I could with the simple digi-cam and my limited experience of making videos.
I thought that to Björling fans it would be interesting to see the place where Jussi and his family are buried, and the museum, even if the video isn't top quality. And your comment made it all worth it! Thanks again!:)
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Oh, and what I found touching was the news bill(if that's a correct word) that simply said "JUSSI DÖD" (Död = dead) Proves that he was well loved by the people when they only have to write "Jussi" rather than Jussi Björling.
When I was in the church of Stora Tuna I also thought about the story I read in a book about Jussi. How he came to visit his brother Gösta's grave and after having been to the grave site, destroyed by grief, walked into the empty church and sang his heart out.
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Turned out that a man who was a caretaker there was in the church and heard Jussi's singing, and later told that it was incredible to hear. I'm sure Jussi put his whole being into his song that time in the church, singing for his brother.
I would have given anything to have been there...

vinga4en 4 years ago
Airbuzz 4 years ago
Oh, jag hoppas du gillade videon i alla fall. Och tack för att du engagerar dig!
Airbuzz 4 years ago
vinga4en 4 years ago
Airbuzz 4 years ago
vinga4en 4 years ago
Airbuzz 4 years ago
vinga4en 4 years ago
