  • Why is it people can't comment without the use of obscene language. Is it because they lack the ability to converse intelligently without swearing or are so insecure they must try to shut down someone else's respond by use of the four letter word. Shame, shame. (I am sure I will get obscene responses to this)

  • One other note on this confirmed by Sonny Curis' nephew David. Crickets DO say 'zip' gun not 'six' gun. Earl Sinks does a great job. BF4 guitar work is fuller but then studios work was better then.

  • could someone email the mp3 of this? i can't find it. its not even on Itunes. thank you. PM me if you'll send it

  • Your best bet on finding this song is buying the Single Collection by the Crickets.

  • Why the fuck has SO MANY people covered this song?!?!

  • @546046

Because it's the most awesome song ever.

  • I know yeah, i took me ages to find this one, cos there were so many others

  • Bobby Fuller;s version was smoother than this, but it;s cool to thear the original.

  • yes it is. and i would say that bobby fullers version is still the best version ever made of that song.

  • Great version of this song!

  • Awesome! (green day drools)

  • 元祖きた!

    ありがとう。

  • WOW!

  • Love this version, how cool in the fifties,Great lead, great vocals, this song still rocks!!Hate country but there's no denying Cash did it well too.[Who's BBobby ?][Greenday got on the bandwagon, its ugly],Meg

  • It's interesting to hear all of the different versions. Love them all. Sonny Curtis, the gentleman who wrote this is a real down to earth guy. Great song writer, picker

  • Yes he is--I enjoyed seeing Sonny Curtis in the documentary "The Real Buddy Holly Story." He does seem pretty cool--I didn't learn until much later that he wrote this song--I assume this was recorded with Earl Sinks singing lead.

  • right

  • This version is okey!

  • Good version!

  • @zaaritha What do you mean with "this version" this is the original

  • @mohaha1223 - "Version" simply means a particular variation of something. Even though it's the original, it's also still a "version" of the song since it has been covered.

  • Ok? kinda super smart or what i just sead that this was the original

  • I like the Bobby Fuller version better, but we do have to pay homage to the writer.

  • Love this song :) :) i just go around and sing all the time on it but i hate the covers whitout the one from Bobby Fuller that one is quite good but ofcourse this one is BEST!!! :)

  • Good song...better than the remake. BTW, people who have to use profanity when posting comments show their immaturity. It can ALL be said just as succinct without the use of "fuck", or other similar words...just an opinion from someone who'd been around a long time.

  • Fuck you.

  • Sonny Curtis sung this. Best cricket song ever. Covered well by Green Day though. Check it out.....

  • @mickkey7 The Clash version was the best.

  • too bad Buddy Holly wasnt around for this

  • But if buddy wasn't alive, whose singing?

  • i think it was Sonny Curtis

  • Earl Sinks who took over after Buddy died...Sonny Curtis wrote it.

  • no shit, of course it's still true. thank god. i don't want drunk naked guys like sam cooke running around looking for his abused prostitute/mistress and annoying the entire civilized society.

  • @zackhanscom Lmao xD

  • That's some thinly veiled racism.

  • I mean this in a completely respectful way, but fuck your notions of civilization. Nobody is harmed by Sam Cooke being naked, it's annoying at worst. Definitely not worth going to jail for. I hope civilization collapses into itself. Empathy's pretty sweet though. I'm glad some people feel bad about really hurting other people. Also, I'm out of alcohol, and I wish this was anonymous. By the way, have you seen my er... escort... Brandy?

  • Abusing prostitutes isn't cool though, I kind of missed the point of your comment, zackhanscom.

  • over half a century later...words still true!!!

  • My great uncle sonny wrote this song!

  • cool, we Crickets fans all love Sonny

  • cool.

  • This is the first and best version!

  • They're all awesome

  • i would suggest u listen to Stray Cats cover of it.... its pretty well the most faithful to the original... its awesome :D

  • lol without the crickets the would be no i fought the law

  • hahaha contry music i fought the law

but the clash verson is aswome

  • Punk music in the 50's ... Hmmmmmm

  • It's Official ! Bobby Fuller Four version is THE BEST !

  • Yes I think you are right there. This almost sounds like a cover of Bobby Fuller!

  • its the other way around!!!

  • It's true though, Green Day are originally a Punk Band, look at them..

  • Green Day...and I like them, aren't Punk, they're neoPunk

  • No wonder this version wasn't a hit - it just doesn't sound right if you put on a single with just this song.

On a whole album it would sound pretty good, though.

  • i had no idea the clash covered this!! i like this version just as much!!!

  • delete your rants! ! lol

  • I was hangin' out with one of the Crickets at his home in Ridgetop, TN ...he sang on this "original" version...I love the song and all the covers but this is the real deal here....

  • Why are ppl so negative?? I thought this comment was funny.

  • Tekmatic38 - the idea is to comment on the music - not to post your repugnant racist remarks. Though I very much doubt you understand a word of this as your written English is deplorable - look it up if you don't understand.

If you haven't got anything useful to say, do the world a favour and say nothing!

    Flame over!

  • still a cool song today

  • Everyone who is arguing and cursing everyone else out should just relax and appreciate this quality music. Whether or not you think the Dead Kennedys are true punk or whatever else you're arguing about, you should just chill and remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • good , good

  • Always liked the song...had NO idea the Crickets ha the original and was grateful for the opportunity to have heard it...thank you!

A long time Buddy & the Crickets fan

  • Intresting to hear the Crickets Post Buddy Holly.

  • how did a discussion(if you want to call it that)about punk get on this song .

  • because , you fuckin asshole,

this song was covered by Punk Bands alot, ie the CLash, Greenday, Sex Pistols, Dead kennedys. etc

so go fuck yourself for not knowing that. you retarded assless fuckin homo. FUCK YOU

  • you had to do all that cussing just to make your point?you are a stupid son of a bitch, and a coward that's probably scared of his own shadow.if we were face to face I'd kick your punk ass.

  • you need to quit while you're still above ground or you'll run into the wrong cat

and come up missin' stupid son of a bitch.

  • LOL!!!

  • Don't call Green Day punk.

  • dude your retarded thats what the real green day was

  • Yeah, roger that. This version from the 50s is actually more punk than anything greenday has EVER done.

  • Fucking epic.

  • This was recorded after Buddy died and Earl Henry (Sinks) aka Earl "Snake" Richards is the vocalist.

  • Was this recorded before or after Buddy Holly died?

  • The Crickets had quite a few hits after Buddy's death, but, mainly in Europe, where Buddy was bigger than Presley

  • A minor correction - Buddy Holly, as great as he was, was NEVER bigger than Presley in Europe.

  • he was in England, which is what I actually meant #@_@# (Personally, I put Presley WAY down on the list of rockabilly greats)

  • well, this is true.....have you SEEN late pics of elvis?

  • What the hell is the deal with the impressionist painting??? How about some relevant visuals?? At least a photo of The Crickets!

  • Yea. or a foto of a Coke Can...

  • good but the clash is where it's remembered most, n that's because it's the best version.

  • That's literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say. Just a heads-up.

  • I like this over the clash. Thanks for posting. Better save it before youtube finds it.

  • I am a Crickets freak but like the Bobby Fuller version better.

  • the crickets did lots of great songs after buddy with earl sinks david box bobbie vee and gordon payne

  • i prefer clash cover...but this it's beautyfull!...

  • totally agree. i havent see ANYONE mess this song up, so many bands have made this song great. This song is just great.

The Clash put a really nice punk rock twist onto it.

  • If you want a punk ( not punk rock though) twist just listen at Dead Kennedys' version...

  • Wow!You think that DK's music is wannabe punk?Weird!But what can I say?Chacun a son goutes...

  • Its hard to explain what I mean, but I don't think of DK as true punk. The Clash and Sex Pistols are punk. DK are just plain weird, and I don't like the vocalist's tone, how his voice is all shaky. I don't take them seriously at all.

  • I see(or at least I'm trying to. XD)I think that DK's sound is more punk-ish than Clash's(I don't mean anything,I love Clash). How about Bad Religion?(The others are gonna kill us because we are posting these comments at this video...)

  • Comment removed

  • of course u don't like DK if u say they're punk...

    they're not!!!!!!!!!!!

    they're an HC band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and their cover is re-written, the text is different and Jello biafra is great and mad.

    mmm that's all folks.

  • fuck you right the dead kennedys are not hardcore.

and btw. hardcore is a type of punk IDIOT!

  • firs of all...be beef.

so tell me what do you think DK are.

and even if u say HC is a kind of punk, actually it is NOT punk.

    stai manzo

  • the dead kennedys are punk. and yes hardcore is punk! RETARD. its called hardcore punk and it existed b4 all your other gay so called "hardcore genres"

and the dead kennedys are not hardcore. juts because they had a few really fast songs on their 3 or 4th album! IDIOT

i dnt understand how people can know absolutely fucking nothing about genres they claim to like. i guess you're just a stupid little poser!

  • mmmm no i'm not.

i just like dead kennedys, i never said i'm punk or something else.

i'm sick of all your bullshits and bad words you just can say IDIOT POSER SHIT POSER RETARD RETARD BLABLABLA

grow up lil boy and then let's talk again

  • it is punk. its called Hardcore Punk. Notice the "Punk" part

  • They are Hardcore punk which is basically a different genre, but punks more about what the songs are about more then the sound of the band.

  • @Eliyahu3125 You don't like the vocalists tone!!DK are just plain weird!!!!What the!!AND you don't think DK are punk;-i have to question your age, perhaps you've been listening to the ill informed populace which is everything punk lovingly and ferociously fought.I'm 43 this mnth, was rather a latecomer to punk as i didn't till '83.I can tell you in Australia, near no-one[1%?] listened to it,the populace never got it,love the fact that there's some real punks moshing around their thoughts,MeighanPS

  • @Eliyahu3125 And while we are talking Eliyahu[if thats your real name it's very lovable[no sarcasm intended,]You really want to listen to the words of Holiday In Cambodia, or Nazi Punks Fuck off,Pistols are punk,Iggy is Punk,Clash my FAVE are punk, hell even radio Birdman and The Saints ARE PUNK,................OUT of them all the cutest ballsiest band called The DEad Kennedys still had the honesty uniqueness and the fastest drums that any underground band at the time could try to.Jello THE MAN

  • dead kenney's wananbe punk?

mate u dnt know wat punk is. i bet you listen to fuicking poser green day shit!

dead kennedy's are one of the most punk of all the punk bands IDIOT!

  • wannabe*

  • I agree clashboy, and so does Johnny Lydon, like him I say Green Day are crap!!.

  • you havent seen any1 mess this up? green day's cover is complete shit.

theres also a cover version with colin farrel singing in an irish film which is quite bad!

  • The modern rock covers are shit! Who, in their right mind, would mess with a classic?

  • Can't help but wonder what Buddy would've done with it...

  • Right. Truly the best version. The only good song they did after Buddy's death..

  • so true

  • There was a group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin named Paul Stefen & The Royal Lancers who had a regional #1 hit of I Fought The Law in 1962.

  • The original and also the best version, Superb!!!!

  • The original was written by Sonny Curtis member of the Criquets after buddy Holly.

  • who wrote the orginal?

  • This is would i would listen too while walking home from 8th grade on my Walkman it was great. love buddy holly love the crickets! too bad holly never had the chance to record this would have been a huge hit.

  • agreed

  • sorry nothins betta than this version and i like all music and i mean all its like wen u hear john lennon sumhow its mor than a song

  • i dissagree, the green day version is good, but Mike Ness' is better (at number 3), and Jonny Rotten's version is number 2 (following this one)

  • i like this version but i like the version by the clash better but thats just becuase i like punk-rock more then this style im sure sum1 likes this version better

  • Buddy would have nailed this one good!!!!

Best version so far although Greenday one is great too.

  • srf11969,

Crickets and Bobby Fuller rock. BUT, I heard another version here on You Tube. Have you heard it by Brian Seltzer and The Stray Cats? Damn fine piece of music.

  • still going strong after 50 yrs..what a great song

this version has the best vocals

  • until just now i thought this song was originally by green day, haha.

  • LMFAO

  • wicked

  • Only heard the Clash version - this one rocks

  • I wish buddy was alive to sing this :(

  • That would be awesome beyond belief

  • Now I've heard Sonny and the Crickets sing this song. I like Bobby Fullers version of this song better. I don't care about the Clash who sang this song.

  • The song was written by Sonny Curtis. Who joined the Crickets after Buddy's untimely death. Thanx fur sharin'!

  • hay i can realy relate to this song....great song

  • dude these guys come to stoughton wisconsin alot and play at the opera house my town and the singers to this band are really good friends with my grandpa they see each other almost ever year up in nothern wisconsin =D. isn't that cool?

  • I am moving to Wisconsin next month...I wish I could see the Crickets! Their version knocks The Clash into a cocked hat!

  • lol ya =P

  • thats cool i live in wisconsin. what city are u moving 2?

  • Wisconsin Rapids

  • oh i live in appleton

  • Oh so we will practically be neighbours. Or "neighbors" even. I went to the big Harley Davidson showroom in Appleton - it's a great place to shop!

  • I had the "In Style" album and loved every track...although my favourite was another Sonny Curtis song..."More than I can Say",followed closly by a classic original..."Just this Once"

  • buddy holly <3

  • Bullshit

  • Greenday also covered "Working class hero"... are they greater than John Lennon as well? ;)

  • Love this I wish this was buddy singin

  • Whoa! They say "zip" gun, instead of "six" gun, even though the drummer still does the 6hits like Bobby Fuller's version!

  • god i love this and bobby fullers equally there both awesome! well i guess this is the original :D

  • Brandon's mom, Rita Faye was on the Grand Ol' Opry from the age of 7. His dad not only sang with the Crickets but produced hit songs for artists like Mel Tillis - His grandparents recording artists/performers Kitty Carson & Smiley Wilson...also did some great movies with their daughter & son-in-law. Brandon is a great writer/producer 3rd generation ties to the Carters, Louvins of TN and The TX legends. He's worked with some giants from a young age and he's not only talented but funny as hell.

  • this song would of gone pretty well in the smokey and the bandit films, like an end credit song or sumet

  • Nothing on the Clash

  • wtf! this is the original! even though i love the clash and cried for 2 days when joe stummer died still. the original demands more respect and especially so for a song as lating as this one!

  • It seems that most bands that perform this lose/ or have lost a bandmate

  • wow awesome

  • best version easily

  • Just wanted you guys to know this is Earl Sinks singing. He also is singing on a lot of the songs on In Style With The Crickets and on some albums of Buddy Holly His picture isn't on the album In Style. I never thought my dad has gotten the credit that was due him. I am very proud of my dad.

  • Amen on Earl Sinks. Great rockabilly voice. Who is that playing those hot guitar licks? Sonny Curtis?

  • It wa smy dad Earl Sinks..Thanks for asking

  • I remember the first time Love Made a Fool of You was played on Radio Luxembourg-1959? and they told us the new man with the Crickets was Earl Sinks. Most fans of the crickets know all about Earl Sinks don't you worry!

  • have you seen the buddy holly website? It's just a contact card.

  • Up until today, I always thought this wonderful song had been launched by Bobby Fuller Four. Still the Fuller version is my favourite one of all of them.

  • Great!!ahah-->But i prefer Clash's cover

  • I once had a shouting and finger pointing match with a WPC over car parking matters.....I won....does that count?

  • lol i like all the versions.

  • me too

  • are they still alive?

  • i dont know, i think this was recorded 1959, some of them may be still alive..

  • see reply by buuddyh57

    Sure,

They will be preforming in Clearlake, Iowa in February 2009. Sonny Curtis (lead singer) Jerry Allison (drummer) and Joe B. Mauldin (bass)
