I believe that in order to compete in today's modern age of education, our technological approaches and strategies (as educators) must increase in an effort to keep our students insightfully engaged yet entertained.
Very scary stuff in my opinion. I'm fascinated by what we can do now, and excited to see where it'll go. But equally, I'm very aware that it's all practically irreversible
while i can appreciate the warm fuzzy vibes put out by this video, more often than not, things will inevitably stay the same, not get better. things have not changed all that much since the time when kings ruled the land. we were serfs then and we are largely serfs today. unfortunately, new technologies are more often than not used against us and not for us. new technologies inevitably fall victim to abuse and are exploited by corrupt and evil governments and that includes the US.
@ericssonmultimedia@dickson23 everyone, whether techo fanatic, techo fobic or somewhere in between, should really start to be "techno realists" and recognize the simple fact that technology is a tool, and by itself does not guarantee any particular use or outcome, positive or negative.
It may seem too basic to mention, but it is far from accepted as a basic fact, and people are still in 2012 throwing mud at each other from each end of the spectrum.
@ericssonmultimedia imagine if we as techno realists would have accepted this basic condition and integrate it as a part of the design process, ALWAYS.
that is, design technology specifically to minimize negative consequences. i'm not saying you would completely eliminate negatives, that would not be "techno realist", but i would argue that is a different way to think about technology creation, and as we know from history, ways of thinking shapes the world.
Technology advances behind the scenes where no one but those with large amounts of money are able to access it.
Technology renders money valueless through the advancement of automation.
Those who originally had access to this technology now control it's development, and eventually leave the Earth, or submerge themselves in a wholly ideal, virtual utopia.
However, the scientists that created it still exist, and they're usually kind enough to share.
@superearthbender - i'd like to share your view but unfortunately, i don't see it that way. it's not up to the scientists whether or not the public receives the benefits from new technologies. it's up to the existing ruling class.
why do you think we have planned obsolescence? why are our products scheduled to break down within a certain time period in order that we might buy a new one? why are we still driving cars that get an average of 35 miles to the gallon? i could go on and on.
@dickson23 Some technology is held back, however none of that has to do with computer software or hardware. I suppose when you refer to technology you're talking about flying cars?
I'd much rather have a cure to Alzheimer's than a flying car. Just me. Bexarotene is simply one of many.
I really don't know what you're talking about. 3D-printed concrete houses exist, and robotic technology is becoming very cheap.
I suppose planned obsolescence doesn't work on iPods... unless you drop it. :\
@superearthbender - it doesn't matter whether it's software, hardware, cures for diseases or whatever. if it interferes with the ruling class and their infrastructure of profits and control then it will either be taken off the market, eliminated or co opted and controlled to their favor. it's as simple as that. why do we still have no cure for cancer?
who cares about 3D printed concrete houses. the vast majority of the poor will never know and or benefit from such technology.
@superearthbender - exactly. in many ways it has not. the more things change, the more they stay the same. we have the illusion of life being better today than in the past. part of that may be true, mainly because we live longer, we have more leisure time but in many ways, life is much much worse.
right now there is a war against the middle class and private property owners because they are the enemy of the ruling class.
@dickson23 Are you kidding me? Any man or woman, with just a small amount of money one can have more available than the most debaucherous of kings just a few hundred years ago. Refrigeration, antibiotics, scientific revolution, computers, the fact that far less people starve each year and the life expectancy is older and older. Humanity doesn't need that kind of ignorant cynicism and I really wish you didn't feel that way.
@sharpezor - your pov is a typical western(mainly american) viewpoint that equates cheap durable goods with a higher quality of life. you have the illusion that life is better today however it's not entirely true. you are still a slave(mental, physical, spiritual), you just don't know it because you have wonderful gadgets distract you.
it's all about quality of life. i would rather live a shorter life of higher quality than a longer life being a zombie slave like the most of us.
@dickson23 Any time in history is worse, that's no illusion. You are just depressed and are inflicting that on others. The developing world is getting better. Watch that TED talk by Hans Rosling. Watch Ray Kurzweil's talk there while you're at it. Read their books. We're advancing so fast you (or anyone) can hardly keep track. Don't insult me by telling me my POV is fatally biased, assuming I haven't read about the worlds problems. The world is catching up to a western quality of life.
@sharpezor hehe ok. it's obvious by your responses that you are pretty young, a bit naive and pretty inexperienced as far as life goes so there's really no point in continuing this pointless conversation.
keep reading your little books and watching your little videos. talk to me when you've actually traveled, lived and worked in multiple third world countries. you've got a lot of growing up to do in the meantime.
@dickson23 Yeah, you realize how stupid you sound saying "go read your little books and watch your little videos" is basically a resignation from the argument and is anti-intellectual. Yes I will keep reading about little things called "facts" and big scary numbers. You're stupid and uneducated, this mysterious "life experience" means nothing objectively and your cowardly stance brings nothing to the table. Stop talking to me.
@sharpezor hmm sorry but i thought i was the one who said this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. you continue to demonstrate your ignorance and lack of life experience by clinging to books and videos, in which the information can be biased and manipulated.
no book and no video can ever replace the real life experience of living, working and establishing friendships in a country, something that up to now, you still do not understand. so step off son and get a real job.
@dickson23 I never said it can replace, this is how flawed your world view is.Books augment and enhance. Real experience is subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt or considered in context relative to surroundings.I have my own experiences and not only do you presume you have more, you discredit learning about things via books and you presume I don't have "a real job". You're the worst sort of moron and you've proven here, in front of everyone that very fact. Deal with it.
@sharpezor wrong, you've got it backwards. real life experience is what gives you the FACTS that you can never get from a book or video because they can be biased or manipulated. i have both the experience AND the academic knowledge whereas you have only academic. therefore you only have a one sided viewpoint.
you are a jackass little PUNK living in mommy's basement who can't laid. deal with it.
@dickson23 Well you're wrong about all that, simply stating that you have experience AND the academic knowledge means nothing. Since I'm smarter than you It's my duty to tell you, an inferior mind what the deal is. All your insults are pointless and I'm just kind of sitting here laughing at your stupidity and ignorance, which is a deadly combination.
The thing these people fail to remember is that we live in a world with invite resources and the lowering oil production would have a grave effect on the tech market

@boodistGeek Hi and thanks for your comment. At Ericsson we believe that communication is a basic human need and if this is true, then the answer to your question is yes. However there are still a billion people today living outside the network, so until all are connected (that wish to be connected) we have work to do.
@executor252 Thanks for your comment! Ericsson partners with House of Radon for this film houseofradon(.)com. The piece of music you are asking about is called Botanicals Song and is composed by Carl Borg.
too many shots from Japan in this video. You would be surprised but the Japanese network society is very restricted to their own devices and tools and it is hardly networked with the rest of the world!
Much of what we can learn...that it can be stored, ready for access in a moments notice. Information Age coming to a halt for a new age, or becoming more brilliant than before - only time will tell.

@Openyoureyesify Ola Ahlvarsson and Eric Wahlforss are the two swedes in this documentary. In addition to this there are one icelander, a couple of americans and one german.
I am amazed at the speed of innovation over the last decade. I am currently doing research on what to expect in 2012 specifically - maybe that's too narrow of a category. I will see.
wow! i learned absolutely nothing, everything was so obvious. Rehashing well-worn concepts.
example:
- 3rd world farmers can get the latest price so they don't get ripped off.
- next gen will want more as they grew up with MMO games, want best education
- Or the IoT guy talking about the electric co's know his a/c is on, and if there's a crisis they can tell the a/c to behave (what crisis [in the west], what is this solving?)
Where is the inspiration? Just very glossy, no substance
Making everything smart by adding connectivity and intelligence is a very important milestone in building the smart green economy where we automate sustainability as much as possible. Thanks for making and sharing this nice video on the Internet of things and how humans (will) live in it.
I would like to translate this documentary into turkish for our users in hardwaremania. Do I have a chance to obtain the script and do I need to get a permission of any sort?

one of the most brain washing reportages I ever seen. I feel like in 10 years I will change my name in Neo, and start following the white rabbit.

wow! i learned absolutely nothing, everything was so obvious.
