  • It's convincing, I wasn't sure if this was a cover or not at first

  • brilliant

  • At first, I heard this on Grooveshark and thought it was terrible. Then, I searched YouTube. After seeing it with the video, along with your other videos, I think it is brilliant.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • This feels so authentic!

  • incredible job

  • Wow! Fantastic video! Very well done.

It's a history lesson in 3 minutes. It's interesting to try to figure out who the people are in the video.

  • Comments are pretty bizarre

  • Genius

  • So who performed this retro-styled version of it? Obviously it's not from 1965, the style is wrong for the counterculture of that era that would say anything remotely like it, the lyrics would never have gotten anywhere near a radio back then, nor would the cultural references have fit.

  • @Merennulli

This original version of 'Flagpole Sitta' was performed by the band "Ray"...

  • This was performed by a band called "Ray" in 1965...

  • Is this the original or something?

  • I remember almost every event in this video and this mix with the version of Flagpole Sitta is awesome, I was ready to go to Vietnam so I could see Joey Heatherton and Bob Hope, missed it by one year.

  • Great... job... interesting...

  • This is absolutely fantastic!

  • holy shit this version was lame

but at least it spawned that awesome version by Harvey Danger....

  • @zx6rtt other way around... this is the cover.

  • very good video images and gives a great nostalgic feeling . very 60s sounding

  • That is AWESOME!

  • This is amazing!

  • LOL!!! Awesome stuff!!! some of you people are dipshits!!

  • How can you think this is the original when his other videos include "Amy Winehouse Rehab 1971 version" and a Country version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance?

Of course Harvey Danger's is the original.

  • .....yeah im going to just forget this version never existed and only listen to Harveys version.

  • Yeah, who is performing this? Is there a version where 'Damn' isn't censored?

  • whose version is this? this is awesome, the song, the video. love it.

  • Harvey Dangers is the original. You are all tools. Go look at "Flagpole Sitta" on wikipedia.

  • Harvey Danger originally did this right? This is just someone doing it as if it were a 60's song. Come on it talks about rage against the machine and piercing your tongue. Who pierced their tongue in 1965, hell a pierced ear on a man was questionable. It had to be the left ear.

The lyrics to this song are just not 60's lyrics. Come on, who is playing this?

  • range against the machine was used by the news when some one was angry about the system

  • not the original, its just how the music is played like a band from 1965. because if u click the user you see 1927 paper planes.

  • Awesome work! Love it!

  • To all the people that compare this to "the original," this is the original

  • How can it be the original if they say Rage Against machines in the song reffering to the band, n00b.

  • They say Rage against machines, and not Rage Against The Machine... they didnt refer to the band...

  • If you actually think that...you need to learn some facts. Go look who the person who wrote the actual song is. It's not hard to cover a song and make it sound from a different era.

  • Hah, this is amazing! I love it to bits! Almost more than the original version...

  • this is the original dude...

  • better than the original!

  • Nice to see something half original -and good- on youtube for once.

  • For Once? Jeeze your looking at the wrong things.

  • Both The Black Tie Prophets and Harvey Danger did a really great job on this song! You rock! Both of you!

  • whoa.

  • Excellent!

  • This is pretty good. Doesn't have the evil, im mad sorta thing that harvey danger does.....but its really good.

  • The song 8/10

The video 10/10 - was brilliantly edited to appear like the song lyrics & video matched

  • Really, really interesting cover, great video.

  • One of the best versions is from The Black Tie Prophets in San Jose!

  • I prefer Harvey Danger's ! It's certain it's a better version !

  • wow, nice vid

  • Hater

  • Cool. But why 1965?

  • @BRP675 because it was the age of the beatles bob dylan the zombies.. pretty much the best music ever made.. also the vietnam war lmfao

  • Such an awesome cover. Hey, i love the 60's music.

  • oh man this is so awesome, the way the song is redone and the video is sick.

  • wow, someone went through the effort to do this? that's both sad, amazing, and awesome at the same time.

  • huh, there missing the last verse of the song... weird... its one of my favorite verses...

  • The band doing this cover is called RAY - but Harvey Danger wrote and recorded this first? This is simply a cover, done in a "1965" style???

  • Yes, I think you're right.

  • This is very cool!

  • Who's doing the audio for this cover? The 60's style vocal stylings & arrangement are great as is the video montage.

  • Anyone reminded of the peep show?

  • Inspirational!

  • nice! very nice! i love the guitarhero at 2:26! yeah, he´s funny groovin.

  • Yeah, that would be Pete Townsend of The Who.

  • that is pete townshead of the who

  • You like Pete Townsend? Check out Harvey Danger's cover of his song Save It For Later. (And check out the Who. And Townsend's Rough Mix album with the late great Ronnie Lane.)

  • English Beat did "Save It For Later", not Pete Townshend

  • Yes, the English Beat did a cover version of the song Pete Townshend wrote and recorded on White City

  • @beeka

Chuck Norris and Billy Mays were both born way before the sixties, so yes... and I'm pretty sure there weren't much less ninjas then today either.

Only with the x-box, you may have a point. ;-)

  • Casey Stengal, Hank Aaron, and Jet packs!!!

  • The moon landing, Andy Warhol, the Beatles. the 60s had it all

  • did it have chuck norris, billy mays, ninjas, or xbox

  • why the heck does the baseball-guy (2:30) always remember me of Colonel Sawyer from World in Conflict???

  • Haha...in case you're wondering, the Mets manager shown is Casey Stengel. They retired his number (37) in 1965.

  • This video is so good that I actually thought Harvey Danger was doing a cover of a song from the sixties. However, in 1965 they wouldn't make references to tongue piercing's and Rage Against the Machine. And they certainly wouldn't have said the phrase "God Damn You" in a song. Thanks for the mp3! This is a great video !!!

  • sweet, where can a get an mp3 of this?

  • Dude, this was amazing. :D Really good job.

  • im not even sure what to say...it sounded good.. not better than the original but not worse either, its just different. how'd you do it? 5/5 very creative

  • awesome, i like the little Nancy Sinatra 'Boots are made for walkin' ditty at the end :P

  • Lol brilliant :)

  • fuckin awsome love this better then harvey danger

  • Listen well and you'll believe the lies.

  • Pretty fantastic. Can you make this available in MP3 or similar format?

  • the only reason why I knew this wasn't the orginal is that they wouldn't have used expressions like "god damn you" back in 1965. also they didn't sing about curves of ones body so open, did they?

  • Oh, yeah, now I remember seeing this song performed on "Shindig" -- or was it "Hullabaloo"?

No, seriously...heard it on "Coverville," and just wanted to compliment you on the excellent cover. Great job!

  • genius. that is one class cover excellent video as well. sounds so genuine im not surprised theres so many confused comments!

  • Great that you give credit to all the celebrities you put into the video, but how about a little love for the performer of the song? Who's doing the cover?

  • Coverville, yeah, how about some love for the performer!!! That would be me--with a lot of help from Garageband, which I used to overdub all the vocals and instruments. Anyway, I'm perfectly happy to sit in the background, as I can't compete with the Beatles, MLK, and Gilligan!

  • This song deserves an internet meme.

And not by this cover, I mean the original.

It's been covered so many effing times, and most people think LIT did the original. Heck, even iTunes has NOTHING by the original artist on it. It's this nebulous being, that hundreds have emulated and almost no one knows the origins of.

  • This was done after the Harvey Danger version because its Harvey Danger's song, they didnt do a cover of this one, its the other way around.

  • I never said that. I just said the orignal was better.

  • Maybe a little scepticism is in order? Anyone notice no one actually singing the song, perhaps a hoax?

  • Well I feel stupid haha didn't know it was a cover.

  • Great!!!!!

  • ahhh the 1960's

  • Very good! What band is this?

  • Ok. That's pretty fantastic.
