Doesn't matter if it's wrong or right, it's not safe to ride that slow in traffic. Also, if you get a chance, look up California's Revised Code (the Laws of California). I believe that section 21202 points out how what the bikers are doing is illegal.

I support urban cycling but these people are an embarrassment to our biking communities. Cycling should be promoted to reduce vehicle traffic and increase healthy living while fostering discussions on sustainable development and the building of strong communities. Looks like a lack of common sense by both sides. Where I live, they have bike lanes. In the places where there are no bike lanes, the bikers ride to the far right. I don't know why the car was driving over the median (not medium). But while watching the video again, I noticed that one guy blocks the car with his bike (illegal) and several others attack the car as it speeds away (also illegal). Two wrongs don't make a right and in this case it makes the bicyclists look stupid.

Actually, cars dominate and destroy our social spaces. They scare people off the road even when drivers aren't intentionally aggressive. Critical Mass is a first-amendment protected demonstration that things should be more fair. All are welcome to join CM on a bicycle, skateboard, in a wheelchair, etc. Try one; you will see the dramatic improvement to the public environment. Cars critical mass every day; one Friday a month, in one small part of the city, there's an important alternative.

The incident you're referring to, a different one, in SF, March 2007, involved a motorist who witnesses say rushed through the thin crowd at the end of the ride, so there was space to accelerate. Watch this video. Did the motorist go faster than 5 mph? Expert? Thanks.
Whether you agree with CM or not, the woman did violate about a half dozen criminal code laws. And that's the only thing that's important here. CM cyclists may be violating a few traffic laws but that's a far cry from the criminal code laws like "Vehicular assault" the woman committed.
The thing is the story is everything that happened not just what you choose to highlight. Much like the media bias against critical mass that you highlight when you focus in on part of the story you misrepresent the event. The fact that the cars license plate and actions were filmed should have been enough. In order for critical mass to work you need a Ghandi like approach from cyclist and take the high road not beat on peoples cars with anything.
I agree in terms of the Ghandi approach being the best for long run PR and generating goodwill from motorists, but it's hard to blame individuals who get angry and retaliate when they have their foot run over or their bike crushed intentionally. Hard to suggest this was much of anything else when the woman goes over the median and then comes back at the bicyclists.
why would the byclist escalate the situation by throwing things at her car. Yeah she was wrong but don't try to smash her windows with your bikes that will just make the accident bigger.
Please don't post false and defamatory information here. It's true that someone flailed a broken cardboard pinata at the attacker's car as she careened through the demonstration, and a young woman bumped her tire in a futile gesture. The injuries and damage caused by the motorist are the story here. The lack of police response is the story here. The relation to the lies like yours in the press is the story here. (Of course, don't respond to violence with violence.)
Relax. First, it's not defamatory because it's his/her opinion. Second, the video speaks for itself. The woman's clearly in the wrong. There is no way that I, an otherwise peaceful person, would not have tried to put my bike through her back window in that situation. I wouldn't want to hurt her or her daughter, but getting my foot or bike run over intentionally makes it tough to control the humors.
Interesting that the video has such a low rating right now (2) yet has been favorited and given 4 honors. Given its political importance right now, one must be suspicious of this discrepancy. We should all know that corporations are paying people to manipulate public perception on blog sites. Please don't forget to give your own honest rating to help counteract such effects.

Looks like a lack of common sense by both sides. Where I live, they have bike lanes. In the places where there are no bike lanes, the bikers ride to the far right. It allows everybody to use the road to it's fullest potential. You'd think an "educated" community would know this. Makes me think the bicyclists were looking for trouble...

I don't know why the car was driving over the median (not medium). But while watching the video again, I noticed that one guy blocks the car with his bike (illegal) and several others attack the car as it speeds away (also illegal). Two wrongs don't make a right and in this case it makes the bicyclists look stupid.

Actually, cars dominate and destroy our social spaces. They scare people off the road even when drivers aren't intentionally aggressive. Critical Mass is a first-amendment protected demonstration that things should be more fair. All are welcome to join CM on a bicycle, skateboard, in a wheelchair, etc. Try one; you will see the dramatic improvement to the public environment. Cars critical mass every day; one Friday a month, in one small part of the city, there's an important alternative.

Watch the video before you make claims like that. The incident you're referring to, a different one, in SF, March 2007, involved a motorist who witnesses say rushed through the thin crowd at the end of the ride, so there was space to accelerate. Watch this video. Did the motorist go faster than 5 mph? Expert? Thanks.

Whether you agree with CM or not, the woman did violate about a half dozen criminal code laws. And that's the only thing that's important here. CM cyclists may be violating a few traffic laws but that's a far cry from the criminal code laws like "Vehicular assault" the woman committed.

The thing is the story is everything that happened not just what you choose to highlight. Much like the media bias against critical mass that you highlight when you focus in on part of the story you misrepresent the event. The fact that the cars license plate and actions were filmed should have been enough. In order for critical mass to work you need a Ghandi like approach from cyclist and take the high road not beat on peoples cars with anything.

I agree in terms of the Ghandi approach being the best for long run PR and generating goodwill from motorists, but it's hard to blame individuals who get angry and retaliate when they have their foot run over or their bike crushed intentionally. Hard to suggest this was much of anything else when the woman goes over the median and then comes back at the bicyclists.

It's true that someone flailed a broken cardboard pinata at the attacker's car as she careened through the demonstration, and a young woman bumped her tire in a futile gesture. The injuries and damage caused by the motorist are the story here. The lack of police response is the story here. The relation to the lies like yours in the press is the story here. (Of course, don't respond to violence with violence.)

Relax. First, it's not defamatory because it's his/her opinion. Second, the video speaks for itself. The woman's clearly in the wrong. There is no way that I, an otherwise peaceful person, would not have tried to put my bike through her back window in that situation. I wouldn't want to hurt her or her daughter, but getting my foot or bike run over intentionally makes it tough to control the humors.
