@oligreen22 dude your crazy, its funny when people judge things that they have never experienced before. this hill is gnarly, its super fast and requires stable legs for your speed tuck. if your footing slips at all or you mess up drafting or whatever, you eat it hard. it definitely takes technical riding for this hill.
@oligreen22 i totally agree with you, the OP is arguing with the fact that there is no real skill involved in a race on this hill. it would be great to bomb with friends on, but as for a race... very lame
i love this hill, we hit it about 2 months ago and hit about 60mph on our boards. its so sick. i live in damascus, so its a bit of a drive. we didn't have leathers though, but call me at 971-219-5038 if you wanna enter for a race im setting up on that hill on august 18, 2010. 2pm-6pm. $10 entry. 4 man heats.
@fightinirishpj dude thats why its so sick. do you longboard? do you know the feeling of drafting someone at 60mph? its gonna be dope. the real challenge to this race is gonna be, keeping your speed tuck perfect for 4 minutes, drafting at the right time, and not dying.
@colemccamman I never said the hill wasn't sick. I just said that it wasn't going to be a good race hill. And yes, i skate. I also race. I just got back from skating a 7 mile 100+ turn road in North Carolina as well as a former race hill there (little switzerland rumple flatspot). I know what the feeling of drafting at 55 mph is like. Keeping a perfect tuck for 4 minutes is a lame race. once the gap starts between riders, the only way there will be place changes is if someone falls
@fightinirishpj dude when someone drafts you you just draft them, its all about strategy. this race is gonna be sick, if you dont like it then dont go. dont even comment back, there is no reason for it. it benefits no one.
the size of your wheel has nothing to do with how fast you can go. big wheels take longer to accelerate and give you more momentum, but according to physics wheel size makes no difference in speed.
SIze does effect speed according to physics, the larger wheels go more smoothly over any bumps on the road, a dinky wheel has more friction against the rough asphalt, and the acceleration speed has almost no effect on the max speed, you weigh soo much more than the wheels that how fast you push at the begining can easily compensate!
thats what makes longboarding awesome! the feeling of if you make a mistake your fucked, its a terrifing but fun feeling

look like a fun hill.. will suck as a race hill tho
last word ftw

ok so its fast, but its a straight road, takes nooo technical ability, just tight trucks! not a good race hill IMO, but good luck all the same!

@colemccamman obviously this is an awesome hill, but race? there are no turns. it's just a matter of bombing and sandbagging...

this is not tennessee people. the "Deal's Gap" (which is what you guys are refering to in tennesse), is the farthest thing from straight.

Your speed was measured with a garmin forerunner 101, correct?
Zach337 3 years ago
yes that was a garmin forerunner 101. very accurate. i used one to clock my speed on a firecat snowmobile in pittsburg NH. hit 107mph
jbw5485 3 years ago
yah um how do you stop?

wind break, slide (in that order)

so this was in Tennessee?
Wow you guys were hauling ass. Hard to believe krimes went almost 20mph faster. pretty insane. I would love to check this place out one day.

Not the same Dragon's Tail. Deals Gap is a completely different layout. Don't think anything gravity-propelled is going to break 60mph on that.
HWrabbit 4 years ago
@winkerscorner Along Deals Gap in North Carolina. It's big attraction to motorcyclists as I've gone on it with my dad. Couldn't imagine skating it.
