normally, yeah, but endermen will randomly teleport around. They aren't hostile that way, but they can and will teleport anywhere. It's a small chance, but that is one behavioral pattern that they follow

You need a pickaxe for wood slabs because they have the same number coded as stone slabs,just a different texture.

I'm not sure if you knew but the fence has a small hit box so by placing a block on top of a fence it creates a lip so you don't need to create an extra lip.

for spider blocking you only have to put a block or slab every other space, because spiders are two blocks wide and cannot fit through single block spaces, this counts for vertical space as well. also if you only put slabs every other space you can still attack mobs that go under the overhang :] ... vote up so people can see i guess :p
