So, Rachel Maddow tells everyone what everyone already knows? What a smart woman, oh wait no she's pretty damn stupid if she thinks any of this is news.
Democrats and Republicans are both for big government in their own way, this hasn't been news. It's what you want it to be big for.
And she also lies though, Republicans are more for State run things, they have never pushed for the Federal government to dictate social issues, except for stopping what Democrats are trying to push.
This has always been the quandary. The left wants big government control over the economy, but limited government on social issues. Conservatives want limited government when it comes to the economy and big government on social issues.
@Garlannd Yes there are a lot of bad democrats (I'm looking at you blue dogs), but they aren't at the same level as repubs. Repubs overall are *more* hypocritical. Democrats aren't the ones running on "small gov't" as a way to sucker folks to vote for them.
It's very much like saying that corporate media is garbage, which is very true. But still Fox is the worst of the bunch. Maddow isn't wrong to point that out.
Anyway, this story was about some rare *honest* repubs. Did you miss that part?
If Republicans were actually Real Conservatives, instead of Fascist Greed-Infested Big-Government Theocratic Corporate-Owned Neocons, than I would gladly vote Republican.
Most Republicans in Politics = Fascist Greed-Infested Big-Government Theocratic Corporate-Owned Neocons.
Does anyone know how Ron Paul has voted in situations like this (Abortion, Gay Marriage) in the US Congress ??
Lets see if Ron Paul is really a Libertarian/Conservative.
POLITICIANS DO NOT BRING YOUR RELIGION INTO CONGRESS.
It doesn't sound to me like having kids enlightened you - more like it made you sentimental.
However wonderful the kids turned out, equating an early term fetus with a "person" is problematic. We would have to go back to "every sperm is sacred" superstition if "potential person" were entitled to special protection.
This is quite aside from the practical problem of compelling a woman to carry a pregnancy to term...
Conservatives have never believed in smaller government! They just SAY that for votes, campaign contributions and (perhaps most importantly) to JUSTIFY in their minds the actual big-government shit they do! It's kind of like their subconscious feels guilty, but they don't want to admit or own up to their lies. Or they see it as some kind of compensatory measure.
"If I can SAY I'm for small government on SOME issues, it'll make up for me being pro-big gov't on the rest. No one will notice!"
Can they REALLY not see a disconnect with wanting a huge national security state and trying to clamp on civil liberties and claiming they're for "small gov't"?? Or do they think, "This is the way it's always been"?
@Smarterthanyouarable while at the same time defending republicans who are actually voting with their heads and not with their pocket books maddow isn't partisan, she has an agenda, but she isn't partisan. Defend democrats? She is constantly lambasting them on the timidity and weakness.
@deepfriedchocobo " She is constantly lambasting them on the timidity and weakness". The only weakness they have is people figuring out they lied about change. The only difference between Obama and Bush is one of them can pronounce nuclear.
This whole thing is a red herring, big business doesn't want to give benefits to more people. Abortion is great most of the people getting them are democrats. More abortions = less liberals.
This is the deal with the GOP, they want a smaller government(LESS MONEY) for the people and a larger government(MORE MONEY) for big business. It is that simple. The republicans are main enemy of our nation, they are our real terrorists.
How do you work that out? Normally and historically the conservatives have been the business party, infact many of the politiicans themselves business owners, to be a conservative today is to seek to conserve what? the status quo. they are the big business party and that's that. Small government for them means no government interference in what big business is doing.
The corporate rule, conservatives support that but all parties do today, negative freedom power to the market
It's the excepted- death of history arguement, that business domination of the world is unquestionable, the market should rule and politicians have little say, that is the negative freedom foundation of the society today, the politicains pretty much except that as a given truth to never be questioned, the best we can achieve.
@099749 A true conservative is one who believes change is not always a good thing, look where you've been if you wanna see where you are going. I am a small business owner which by your definition I am an evil person. I wanna run my life & business my way not the way some bureaucrat who lives 1000s miles away says I should. What do you have against people who provide products & jobs to people? You may want government involvement in your entire life but it's not for me.
Sorry but I am very pro-small business. You fail to see that corporations rule today they run the government, and should you little fish eat a bit too much, they'll buy you out and shut you down, you want no regulation no rules in the market place you just provide the tyrants with more ability to be tyrants. Government should protect the people and the market, that calls for regulations and protections.
but until business is kicked out politics the fascist will rule!
@099749 I don't fail to see anything on this subject. One person can be a corporation, the wealthy run every thing & that is true in every country on this planet. America needs to go back to strong money with real capitalism not this crony capitalism with a central bank that counterfeits money at will. If our politicians had a one term law with free air time on TV with the stipulation that they had so many people sign a petition then there could be meaning full change.
Luckily for me, my 19 year old unwed mother didn't have that choice. Otherwise I might not be here today.
Look, until you have kids, you just don't understand. I was pro-choice until I had kids. My wife didn't want one of them, she even had an appointment for an abortion. She changed her mind and I cry every time I think about it and see my son.
@PizzaGod I have kids and I'm pro-choice. Hindsight is always 20/20. Saying things like "what if your mother had made a different choice?" is just begging the question. Since I don't possess a TARDIS, that question is academic. You could also ask about Hitler or Stalin's moms. Would you deny them? Knowing what their sons would do? I don't like abortion and I wish it didn't happen, which is why I lobby for better education and medicine!
I have always said education is the best choice. I fully support the bill in Texas that will require an ultrasound to be done before the abortion. The reason is so that the woman/girl will see what they are doing.
I am a firm believer that life begins at conception.
So answer me this, how can someone be charged with double homicide if they kill a pregnant woman, but a doctor does not get charged with murder if he gets paid to end the child's life?
@PizzaGod I dunno, I didn't write that law. "Life begins at conception?" Okay, but is it human life yet? If a woman has a miscarriage, should a police investigation be started? Utah thinks so. "Double homicide?" Do they kill the guy twice? Would you force the jury that convicted someone of murder to be present at his execution?
We have a two party system. Republicrats blind to the CFR run permanent power structure of the corporofascist globalist bankers are one party. The other party is humanity, people who want a genuine representative govt and the constitution restored.
well lets see, they want to tell us what we can and can't take for pleasure (illegal drugs),tell us who we can and cant marry/have sex with (gay/lesbian rights),and tell us that the country was founded as a save haven for christians in a world of blasphemy and heresy, and that "under god" was in the pledge since the countries founding...
so yeah, they want a big government...they just dont like it when someone else trys to beat them to it
I hate the feeling I get when I read some of the comments on all of these shows because I have the gut feeling of "that person is a loon" but then I realize that they are good ideas. That's why no one challenges big "C" conservatives. It's because the goalpost has been shifted so that the right is always right and the left are America-hating oppressors.
Small government doesn't deserve the positive connotations attached to it, it's generally just a means of politicians shirking their responsibilities and letting big business line their pockets. It's the legislation that matters, not how much or how little or it there is.
The majority of ppl don't have philosophical understandings in politics, including politicians. What really the majority of ppl know is who they don't like.
all government is in a competition with itself to grow ad infinitum. the state will never be large enough. the smaller the state begins, the larger the state will end- like a parasite can never have enough nutrition. there is no escaping it, and only true human freedom will come after abolishing the monopoly of violent force like abolishing slavery.
There are small government conservatives who are fiscally conservative in nature and also socially liberal. It requires them to be, otherwise any variants on this would mean they are for bigger government. Which isn't a bad thing, but when it comes to big government conservatives, they favour the rich and screw over everyone else.
I'd say there are only a few small gov't conservatives in America. All in that one state that was highlighted in the segment. Props to them.
LOL, it depends on where one is in their timeline! During The Bush Era, The Neocons & The Patriot Movement had no problem with expansive government! Now, you let those assclowns/Tea Baggers tell it, there are the epitome of small government!
That said, I wonder if John Boener is going to count towards The Right's suggested cuts the $450 million this year and $3 billion over 10 years saved by putting the kibosh on that second engine on the F-35! LMFAO, made by GE, where that fool resides!
@RyanR3volution funny how she opened up with a guy who also calls himself a "Conservative" making the same claim she is.... it'd be funny if it wasnt so pathetic watching her all smug like she's found some new dirt on her limited government enemies.
I just think that the state is the biggest threat to our liberties and we need to keep it chained in a limited gov if we want to be free. The biggest threat to this country is not Afghanistan or Iraq, those are wars of choice. The biggest threat to this country is the border problem and we can fix that by legalizing all drugs and let freedom ring.
This is one of only many reasons Ron Paul is our last and only hope to bring this great country back from the brink. If we keep votiing d&r then we'r gonna get the same things over and over , just more of it. We can change it but will we?
@raykegley I thought the same thing for a long time. After doing some more research, I discovered his connections to the Texas Republican party, which is basically a group of Christian Nationalists. I'm not sure how tied he is to this group, but his comments alone on the religiosity of the Constitution are misguided, if not totally wrong. He also supports creationism being taught in schools, which is bonkers.
We've known the answer to this one for hundreds of years. The misnamed "conservatives" (AKA billionnaire rapists) want HUGE gov't for themselves (insanely overblown copyright laws is one relatively small example, whereas the hegemony of the military-industrial-police state complex is a large one). They want "small" gov't for the "bottom" 98%. The US has always been gov't BY THE RICH FOR THE RICH. How will we change this if we keep electing wealthy shysters to "lead" us?
@TripleSpeak Compared to most places, the Nordic countries have humongous governments, but those governments have been put it place by a fight to empower the bottom 98%. If you can tame the state and make it do the true democratic bidding of the large majority of the population, the wage working lower and middle classes, you'll achieve great equality. You'll achieve less crime also. Income inequality is the single greatest factor that disintegrates a society.
It's why it's incredibly stupid that the libertarians are triyng ot take over the Reps instead of the Dems
at least dems meet them more halfway with individual freedom instead of economic freedom (at least how they define it) and I know it;s not the complete freedom they want but it;s a hell of a lot closer than the Reps, thus why they're idiotic and will never achieve their goals :P
