My god, Benedict is a phenomenal actor. He is an incredibly attractive man, but not because of his physical appearance. All of those features are just auxiliary. His pure, raw talent is what makes him exceptionally alluring to me. This man is outstanding, and perfect in every single way.
I don't understand the mind of this woman. Why would she need time to think about marrying this sweet, amazing, intelligent man? It's nonsense to my ears.
Not just physics but I consider life a journy, one that should be enjoyed along the way as you never know what you will discover and how it can effect something years later this is just amazing.
It scares me when he is in the tub under water. I am terrified his muscles will not be able to lift him out. I know Hawking never drowned, but barely getting out and choking on water is pretty awful. Not to mention water getting in his weak lungs and causing a respiratory problem. I wonder if he really did this.
You know, I have to say, Benedict is...so...incredibly talented. I mean, really, I saw him as Sherlock, and he plays it down pat, but when you talk to anyone who has met him irl, they'll tell you he's the sweetest person ever. Now, right here? I don't see Benedict Cumberbatch, I see Steven Hawking. See what i'm talking about? He's so very gifted, and an absolutely astounding actor. Just watch any of his roles in other films, and you'll see he takes it to a whole new level. :)
To everyone who points out "inconsistencies" in the movie, please read this. When someone suffers from ALS, their muscles stop working over a long period of time, getting progressively worse. Sometimes, however, they get this sort of spasm. They can suddenly not be able to move their legs, but regain some motion later. Sometimes it passes, sometimes it doesn't. Some days are just better than others. As someone whose watched a friend suffer, I'd say the movie has it pretty well pegged.
@camomilehottea he mentioned at the beginning that his respiratory muscles wasting away would mean it would be like drowning when he died. i suppose that he thinks that him being able to hold his breath for longer means he'll be able to live a bit longer...thats my interpretation anyway :)
@camomilehottea When your respiratory muscles start to atrophy because of ALS, you can only hold your breath for so long, and it gets worse as time goes by. He's testing himself, I guess. Probably to try and predict if he has enough time left to finish his work.
All of you who are saying the scenes are inconsistent, it actually makes alot of sense and consistency because if you noticed in the 1st or 2nd part he asks the doctor how long will it take the disease to kill him, the doctor tells hime that it's very gradual. So if you use your noggin you can make sense of him talking normally one scene and not normally the next. It's cuz its gradual and its not going to waste his muscles at the same time.
Maybe, I am wrong, but watch Hawking walking at around 9:55. You will see that at first, he is walking like he is ill, but at the end of a scene, you can see him walking normally!
It's a nice movie but the scenes are not consistent.
for example one scene he can barely talk (trinity hall) and a few scenes later he speaks almost normally.
The same thing about walking , one scene he's barely able to walk and lift his head and the nexts scenes he walks almost normally while lifting his head.
Don't take it wrong , to movie is great but there are mistakes that are too much noticeable.
the only problem with this movie is that it insinuates that hawking came up with the big bang theory, which, by my knowledge, he didn't; he helped support and explain it
@houdini2097 He doesn't know her, but her mention of the train being 'backwards' sparks in Hawking's mind the idea of time going backwards. He says 'I love you deeply and forever' because it was through her that he was able to come up with this revolutionary idea. :) . I doubt that, in reality, he thought of the idea when engaged in conversation with a woman on a train, but I'd like it to be true, it would be a beautiful illustration of how random strangers can, unknowingly, change our lives..
"I'm talking about the beginning of the universe!" -slaps with dissertation-. Aww, bless. :) John Sessions is awesome. And Benedict. BC for the damn win. Every time.
@RhosFurey he didn't play Charles Darwin, but he was in the film. Shame, if he had played charles darwin he would've played both my science heros, namely Hawking and Darwin.
@pinkyellowblackred im sorry but you can, just don't scroll down and fight the temptation to look; if you don't want the temptation of comments that ruin it don't watch it on youtube..?
