  • yea your supposed to tape from the top but watevs

  • @snareplaya15

Did you not hear his reason?

I started from the butt because of this video.

  • Wrong style...gotta do the straight one, down one, straight one, down one technique..

  • ca you tape your sticks with two olors. if so how. my school line wants to know. plz help.

  • lol... y the sticks are being taped as there is no way of getting electric shock by the drum kit ?? it make the sticks heavy.

  • @12345Abir marching snare u duck no offense

  • whats the point of the sticks being heavier?

  • @dahaproductions Chops.

  • My school only allows you to do them white :(

  • @SuperBabydank same here, they think it makes the band look more put together. if they are all different, it would look silly, wouldn't it?

  • i love red tape!

  • I am taping my sticks, blue then white then blue, SCHOOL COLOR'S BABY!!!

  • U don't need to tape the whole stick but some lines do it just for visual effects. Plus if u tape it all you won't get so much damage on ur sticks frm rim shots and such

  • Wow, this is the only halfway decent help video this guy has. I'm still afraid to take his advice though..

  • hehe. he said butt

  • That was the shittiest stick tape job I have ever seen.

  • hehe he said butt

  • let it out dude....one two three and clear !!booom

  • Does it help with blisters?

  • @iyoshidrummer

    yes a little

  • @iyoshidrummer it depends how soft the tape is, electrical tape prevents blisters if you wrap it half way up the stick. hope this helped.

  • really!? i can use blue!? thanks expert viallage for absolutely nothing.

  • @bcaviness yep. Funny sound. I believe they actually used something like that to make the laser sounds for Star Wars XD

  • why do you tape the stick?...

  • @mrjangomushiturner i tape it for grip

  • you only tape where you are going to be holding it.

  • @TheKappool you should also tape it where it would hit for a rim shot

  • you gotta be kidding me, you dont tape the whole goddamn stick, newb.

  • One of the videos of EV that does not suck.

  • where can i get white electrical tape?

  • @ThatsSoPikachu Any place like Home Depot or Lowe's haha, that's where i got mine.

  • @ThatsSoPikachu hardware store, or even wal mart

  • Blow your fucking nose!

  • what is that for a tape?

  • Very many sexual innuendos

START AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STICK

  • @Supermario678

    If you're 11, yeah

  • will ductape work?

  • i use red thanks

  • can you please send me the link to where you got that drum im in a marching band check out my vids and im trying to find one soon!!! :)

  • Dude, enough with the sniffling...for real.

  • its better to tape around your fulcrum

  • @PROTOKALL agreed. it looks kind of funny when it's taped all the way :P

  • Sweet I taped my sticks black (they have a white tip) and they look AWESOME! :D

  • i me and the drummers at my school tape the whole tape and make different designs with blue and yellow tape (school colors)

  • This is a neat method, although I prefer to be able to actually grip the stick itself. At my high school, We start the tape just below the bead; then go just over half way down the stick, before taping the butt end of the stick. This way you can still be holding the stick itself (if thats your thing) and still have a good taped & balanced stick. :)

  • where do you buy white electrical tape?

  • @kengo2120 you can buy it at any major percussion music store

  • @kengo2120 At any hardware store. I personally get mine at Home Depot. I wouldn't bother ordering "stick tape" from drum companies, as electrical tape is literally the EXACT same thing, and more easily available from Home Depot, Ace, Lowe's, etc.

  • ansamble? this is just one more reason that expert village sucks

  • @cdmouse9 Isn't it spelled ensemble?

  • @AZNLucifer97 that's why i was making fun of expert village. but now i cant find where the hell i saw "ansamble". haha

  • wow, didn't know i'm actually allowed to take blue aswell.

    thanks expertvillage!

  • Haha He's got the same carriers we use.

  • Well I've been using electrical tape for eight years back when I was in middle school playing snare drum then I learned how to play the drum set it's been awesome idk what's the difference they come in all colors just don't take it off after you tape cuz it's sticky Vick firth sticks are the best I use 5b

  • This tells you nothing.

  • The reason for taping your sticks white especially for marching band is to help bring out your visuals. if you leave themwith the regular wood color your visuals will be difficult to see.

  • @TrillCoop

OR to protect the sticks from being destroyed by giant rimshots...

  • 0:01 skip advertisement

  • i was reading the comments and heard the tape unroll and thought wtf is that a laser gun or some shit

  • Where did you get the tape from?

  • i like to tape my sticks everywhere except where the hand will lie so its easy to get a comfortable position and you wont mess your technique up but a better solution to the heaviness are vic firth ms4 (sta pac a.k.a. magnums) extremely dense and extremely heavy perfect for warm ups and speed training

  • why would i wanna do that to my sticks

  • @yoavm92 last longer

  • I can't understood why do that

  • could someone please tell me what sticks those are

  • vic firth corps master

  • what sticks did yu tape?

  • i believe there thom hannum vic virth corpsmaster

  • You should not video yourself when you have a runny nose. Otherwise, good segment.

  • You can also use medical tape or hockey tape

  • When I tape my sticks with electrical tape, the rimshots sound muffled, is there any way to get around this?

  • Have you tried taping only half the stick?

  • I like the sound of the tape unrolling. lol.

  • Haha, me too!

  • @bcaviness lol yeah it sounded like some alien gun or door opening and closing

  • he got the sniffles lol

  • WOW! really you guys are asking why you tape sticks from the butt towards the top? how long have you played marching percussion? Are you in like. . . sixth grade or something?

  • You should go drink some tea, and go to bed. Sounds like you're catching something. u_u

  • After watching the video, I still don't WHY you tape sticks...

  • Imagine your playing at a football game. It's dark . . . what shows up in the dark???WHITE. it also protects the stick from getting "fudged" up when your playing rimshots.

  • it makes them last longer, so they dont break ver fast like a lot of people whine about

  • prevents stick from being damages

it can change how you play

  • next time blow your nose b4 you make a vid pls O.o lol

  • How is this the only video for taping sticks? and I thought you were supposed to start at the top.

  • u make it look so easy

  • the best tape to use actually is grip tape for drum sticks.its way better then other tape.plus you can keep it on for a long time

  • what i do is start at the top and after 1,000,000 rim shots I rip off all of the little pieces of tap and take tap from the bottom of of the stick...

  • who the fuk starts tapin at the butt of the stick

  • Let me address a few comments on this video. You should never tape your sticks with duct tape. One reason eletrical tape is chosen is because, as Bonhamman90 said, it increases the life of the stick. Duct tape is perforated into tiny strips making it split easily, and it does nothing but weigh the stick down. Electrical tape is all one unit so it "sticks to the stick" better and can survive more rim shots.

  • Another reason to tape sticks is to create better visibility while being judged, admired, or whatever you happen to be doing. As this guy fails to state in the video, you [don't] want to tape your sticks the same color as your uniform. The tape helps accent the stick against it's background. If you're a snare drummer, the sticks' background is your uniform. If you have a blue uniform and you tape your sticks blue (or black), they aren't going to be very visible. However, white sticks will be.

  • yea to add on, you also want them to be a color that contrasts your drum head; darker for a white drum head, and preferably something lighter for an ebony head

  • never retape your stick lol. if the tape gets all piecy and its starts to chip away. just get new sticks. cause the quality of the sound will drasticly reduce. so just go buy new sticks. because sticks do get bad even if they dont look like it because you retaped them.

  • The solution to that is having one set of sticks that you only use for performance. You can retape practice sticks as many times as you want because they're just beat down sticks, it's not crucial that they sound great.

  • that was what i was saying.. but if anyone didnt understand. thanks for clearing it up for them lol :D

  • lol i used black and neon green tape on my marching sticks

  • Our director makes our snares all use white. It looks more uniformed and professional. But for practice, fun colours are always cool! :)

  • you tape them too fast D:<

  • Why tape them?? i tape mine because it makes my blisters less. . . painful, i think. . . but yeah?

  • i like to start near the bead cuz then the tape wants to go down by itself and its easier, also its harder to end at near the bead cuz when it gets skinnier

  • can u use soft duct tape?

  • Duct tape would be really heavy. The best is electrical tape.

  • Nah, drum stick tape is the best. it is made for sticks, goes on like electrical tape, but isn't smooth like electrical tape, it's textured for grip. or you could just buy the Ralph Harmon signature marching stick, love those

  • You shouldn't because duct tape is REALLY hard to take off. With electrical tape, you can retape them quite easily as long as you don't wait to long and let the tape get all piecey. Plus duct really heavy. Trust me, stick with the electrical or drum stick tape.

  • Why do you tape them? :)

  • Taping marching sticks helps to prevent stick splintering. Plus, it also extends the life of the stick

  • its also easier for judges to see stick heights at competitions

  • looks. grip. splinters. blisters.

  • Mine are hot pink and black :]]]

  • does anyone know what sticks he's taping

  • probably vicfirth corpmasters one of the most populer sticks for marching snare

  • yeah. are the hardimon's the only corpmasters?

  • as far as i know

  • No, "Corpsmasters" refers to any marching style drumstick endorsed by Vic Firth

  • wrong

  • i said one of the most popular my drumline uses promark

  • oh men i dont know what to do i been playing the drums for 4 weeks and i trying to decide if i should buy an electric drums or acoustic drums cuz i life in an apartments but i will also perform in talent shows

  • get an electric and an amp. you'll be able to practice quiet and play loud live

  • go acoustic, i have an electric and it sucks.

  • im going to a new school next year and i taped my sticks befor i knew the colors and i used the colors of the rival school and im gonna have to re tape them or get beat up

  • I love your screen name LOL

  • i only tape the top cuz the rim

  • electrical tape does not works when youre playing for a long time. When youre hands sweat it gets slippery. Try it and youll know it.

  • So what do you use?

  • actual drumstick tape

  • There is no difference between Drumstick tape and electrical tape.

    Use electrical tape.

They slip out of your hands because you sweat because you are gripping the stick too tight. Loosen up and you might only sweat a single drop.

  • Typically, yes. But if you're outside, then your hands might sweat from the heat ya know?

  • An easy solution would be to tape only the top half of the shaft, near the bead.

  • I'm not a drummer, but I'm preparing to learn. :)

My high school band also only taped the top half. Why is that? What's the difference between taping the top half vs all of it?

  • it changes the balance of the stick, and tape is slippery when you sweat, so most people don't tape the butt end.

  • @darkreaper150 that's what i do

  • @darkreaper150 yea but then it would look like crap

  • @darkreaper150 you said shaft

  • then dont sweat or you can just get a sweat bag and put it in your drum stick bag

  • Don't sweat? lol that would be awesome! Except I actually work :D

  • yea but im in a band. can i just tape the top?

  • please blow your nose

  • thanks. really helpful

  • nice
