Thes one has a ridiculous talent in his own right. The way he describes scenes of happiness memories, nature ect......... over some of the PUTS back catalogue is untouched, and trandends many mc's cliche's. , if your talking lyricle thats different coz you then have to take into account the whole game, and at the risk of feeling "I know why!" the backlash from many here, Id say old marshall mathers is a 8 miles ahead of any mc , if were talking the whole lyricle game - Wack beats tho....lol
One of the best of all time.... I think J Live is in the top top 5 for intelligent lyrics, clever word play, and I think he sticks to his subject better than most emcees, ever! I cannot remember J Live ever saying anything, ever, that made me think, ''what the fuck? what are you talking about? Or, why did he say that?!''......something I can not say for some of my other favorites....
I include Thes One as a lyricist in that same category....same goes for Talib Kweli.....
@Zignaflyinblow Whaaaaat? No disrespect to Thes and Double K but J-Live on his best days (as he is on here) is up there with the greatest of all lyricists. Thes and Double are dope, but can't touch J-Live when he's on the top of his game.
@Clempt90 Have you really listened to J-Live extensively? The extended metaphor he uses throughout this song is absolutely fantastic, and not many MCs could pull off a whole song with EVERY LINE having two meanings in the literal and metaphorical form, much less having the content be of great importance. Other songs like "The 4th 3rd" are absolute poetry at it's finest. I think PUTS can write some pretty dope lyrics, but there's a reason why several ppl comment on this song asking for the lyrics
big mac, fast food, and animal agriculture in general cause more destruction than most of what he mentions...notice how j-live has gained massive weight over the years?--of course he wouldn't bring up his eating practices.
This song blew my mind when I first heard it - clever metaphors and you're right - how many good hip-hop tracks can you name that address environmental protection.
J-live is a metaphor machine. This song makes me happy every time i hear it because it shows how music can be made to sound this dope and still be talking about being green/eco-friendly and shit like that.
@adrenelinryan genious production, the best! when i was younger im 26 now, i used to say pete rock , but ive grown up with puts and the beats are so consistant n motherfuckin dreamy! great comment man
this is perfect i found my inspiration in thes one i feel his music like i made it its just what i understand as a hip hop traduced to a song that someone arelady made, awesome vibe.
This song kicks ass. Environmental hip-hop!? Unreal. Money cash hoes rappers should take notice. You can call me a tree-hugger for the time being, too.
Oh SH1T HEY BAYBEE! ;D N11C3 song...I'm bout to start callin j-live a tree hugger XP
But yeah I really dig the lyrix, he's really lettin peeps know whats up when it comes to pollution..thats the reason I know now I shouln't smoke-cuz in hindsight it's killing me a second hand smoker and the earth.
THATS BAD D<
I like how he says the devil has his hand all up in the earths dress~that shit is true! lol Somebody should paint that..
haha Yeah, where i live there is a radio station that plays LOTS of songs like this. I just never knew the name of it till now. This and Movement-Crown City Rockers are my 2 faves. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!!
Powerful track all around lyrically and beat wise, I liked how he had sounds from tha ocean around tha end. You seriously dont hear track akin to tha message this carries on much underground tracks. This is tha first time I've heard a track form J-Live and now I'm interested in tha rest of his work, I can tell already that they carry messages like this while still bein effective beat wise.
Yeah, if you look up anything about J-Live you'll see he's quite the respected emcee... Though his beats aren't always too flashy... His most popular song is probably "The Best Part" produced by DJ Premier... My fav of his is "The 4th 3rd" though on that particular track, the beat is sorta weak, though the lyrics are PURE POETRY... I also have a song on my favorites where he rips Pigeon John on his own song... And "Braggin Writes" has his scratchin and rappin SIMULTANEOUSLY! o_O
Thes one has a ridiculous talent in his own right. What a novel idea.... :P
Spit for rebellion, spit for resistance
Spit for accuracy, spit for distance
I can't just spit that shit you could market
Even though I know we got the same target
And I can't just spit that old rhetoric
I gotta spit what's ten steps ahead of it
