@FelixBarre Yes. Any filter that has a stopwatch icon will allow keyframes to be added and therefore be able to move over time. Click the stopwatch to set a keyframe.
@paulo243c You can theoretically use any color. The problem with white is you need to make sure that the subject in front of the white cloth isn't wearing white. If they are, their white clothes will also get the content that will go on the greenscreen (or whitescreen, in your case). That's why greenscreens are so garishly green. Nobody would ever where such a color so interference with clothing wouldn't be a problem. But go ahead, give white a try and see if you can make it work. Good luck.
@karimspiano No. But you need to play the video from the camera using a firewire connector into your PC. Assuming you have a firewire connection on your PC, plug in the camera and "ingest" it into Premiere Pro (hit F5 on your keyboard) and you should be able to get it in.

When I key out my Green screen, the subject's color is all effed' up and noisy. You can see it on my video; green screen experiment. How do big movie studios deal with the green-screen leaking on the subjects in post production? (shiny objects and such)
@StudioGoldsmith In CS5, the Ultra Key filter does a better job at greenscreens. If you have a 64-bit machine, you can use that filter. It works better. I think the pros have ultra key or something better. Chroma Key works only okay.
You separated yourself form the background really well! I recommend adding more cyan to the layer you're on though, as your skin still looks like it's being lit by yellow light.
@MarvellousN Glad you liked it. Check out all my free videos at HowNowVideo(dot).com. I also offer a 5-hour DVD that teaches much more, not seen on YouTube. Thanks again...
@thenewpeterv Yes. If you shoot each photo with a greenscreen behind it then you can apply this filter to knock out the green. Do some tests first. Also, if you have CS5, the Ultra Key filter works even better than the Chroma Key one. CS5 requires a 64-bit computer.
@Witchking101 Technically any color will work. But bright green is used because it's far from skin tones and typically people don't wear that color, so their clothes won't disappear. Experiment. You'll see almost any color will work.
@alifaanication I also offer 5-hours of training on a DVD I sell at my website for under 20 bucks, with free shipping. I do more tricks with green screen and teach lots more than you'll see on YouTube. Check it out at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Thanks for watching.
@theinstinktives I'm glad you liked the YouTube video. Check out my 5-hour DVD training at HowNowVideo(dot)com. You'll learn much more. I've sold lots of these all over the world.
My clips still have a green glow around them, anyway to improve that and reduce it? I have tried messing with similarity and blend, but if I try to get rid of too much of the glow, then it has a grainy look to the clip.
@KoBaCaaTT That sometimes happens. I found the green is diminished depending on what color your clothes are as well as what color the image or video your placing under the greenscreen in Premiere. You can try making adjustments in the perimeters of the greenscreen filter, too. In Premiere Pro CS5 the Ultra Key filter works 100 times better. If you're running a 64-bit computer, you can take advantage of that. CS4's filters are not as good.
@dteubner lol actually i am on a mac, i've searched for it in the help bar buy nothing comes up. doesn't matter now anyway, i figured how to do it in final cut pro. thanks all the same.
@anthonyJbrennan Green or blue is traditional as color choice because folks don't tend to where those bright colors. You can use any color, but some colors may match your cloths or skin, so typically a bright green is preferred.
@Coolingmy Glad you liked it. Also I have a 5-hour DVD training product. It's great and not expensive. I teach a lot more on that. Learn more at my HowNowVideo(dot)com website. Thanks again.
Its important to light the green screen well, but don't stand too close to it or you'll get green light bouncing off it and onto you. As you can see on his shoulders
@mrmykewilson I believe that's a Mac variation in the program. Go under Keying in the effects area and try another, perhaps Color Key or whatever is there. Experiment and see what works.
hey my premiere pro cs4 wont open and i lost the disks to redownload it cause it says i need to! do you know anywhere why i can get it?! PLEASE HELP!!!
@jackkthemackk Try calling Adobe. Perhaps they have you on record and can get you some new disks. Not sure what the phone number is, but a little searching on the web and I'm sure you'll find it. Good luck.
@junnagels Yes. Video or still images. It's all the same to Premiere Pro. Also, I'm selling a 5-hour personalized DVD of brand new, longer and more in-depth videos. Learn more at HowNowVideo(dot)com. There I go into more depth. Can't do much in a 10-minute YouTube video. Good luck with your editing.
Thanks so much... I have your exact set up... I wanted the other camera you have but I ended up buying 2 HV30's and I also have Premiere Pro CS4. I appreciate the video
@conseler Yes, a couple of options. You can get my new, 4-hour training DVD (it's hot) at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Check that link. Or search my YouTube channel for the video called Firewire and Premiere Pro CS4. I explain it there.
hi, for some reason under keying i dont have chroma keyer as an option. i tried the same method useing the COLOR option and it worked but i dont think i have the same flexibility as you. any suggestions as to why the chroma key option isnt there? btw i am useing premiere pro cs4. any help will be much appreciated, thanx.
@charmthepi I've been told that Chroma Key doesn't show up on the Mac version. If you're on a Mac, that's why. If you're on a PC, I don't know why it isn't showing up. As long as you've found a workaround, I guess you'll be fine. Good luck.
Thanks for the tutorial. I was wondering if that green cloth was anything special. Or was it just .... regular old cloth/felt etc...? Does it matter at all what shade it is? (Most seem to be brighter than dark green....Thanks.
@specfever The professional fabrics tend to be a rich, middle green, but vibrant with a non-glossy look. Don't get a green cloth that is too light. Even a darkly lit green screen will work if your subject is lit well and isn't casting any hard shadows. Shadows make things difficult. If you can sew, or have someone to sew fabric for you, your local fabric store might have something that works. Experiment. Good luck. Check out my Ultra Key video also at dteubner on YouTube.
awesome - was sent to me by a friend as we're doing a green screen production today... funny, i have the same equipment you got, too. XHA1 and the HV30, which btw, i picked up recently and is an outstanding little machine for getting 2nd angles, esp handheld for staying low-key to your subjects and still get in their face (like stage or events). Excellent tutorial of the green screen setup and CS4 usage to get the effect. i am subbing. cheers!
@1120official Using various colors will present problems. Greens and blues are traditionally used. White? Give it a try. Do a test. However many colors will be too close to your subject in front of the screen. White might be too close to a person's skin color, or perhaps they're wearing a white shirt. Do a test and see.
@dteubner Very nice video..I work with Adobe Premiere pro cs5. I have set up a screen green with even light...I ordered a costume and it has green in it..Is there any clever way to isolate the back ground from the subject, even if I need to render out in different files?
@Ahhapictures You really have CS5? I didn't think that shipped yet. Anyway, you have a problem if you're wearing green yourself and trying to use a green screen behind the subject. There's something called rotoscoping, where you silhouette the subject frame by frame and can create a mask that way. I think After Effects CS5 might have an improved rotoscoper, but not sure about Premiere Pro CS5. Do some tests. But the simplest fix is to not wear anything green yourself. Good luck.
@dteubner Oops..typo..I have cs4..I decided to split the screen half green and half blue..the blue will go behind the subject wearing some green, since the Green screen covers the entire wall..I feel this will solve my problem..Rotoscoping would be a nightmare, since the subject in green will be moving..thanks!
same here Super, verry good men i like your videos verry much,i have qustion for you sir ?ware can i download som more like this" Additive Dissolve" becose is my favorite effeckt. i know alredy the existing (Cross Dissolve transition) to premiere pro cs4"but my qustion is ware can i get more like this" Additive Dissolve"for free??? or how to make one is there a way oround??
@foztee In theory any color will work. But some colors will be too close to skin tones or the clothes people are wearing. Give it a try and see if it works.
@jinkis4 Brown or red can work, but those two colors may be similar to skin color. There's a risk that you'll key out faces if you use either of those colors. Typically bright green is used because it is farthest from skin tones. But, you can always give it a try.
@Aloyalgamer - Hey, I just got CS4 too and figured out how to do green screen....go to video effects, keying, Remove Matte. Select the color background you are using and use the controllers to delete it. I just tried it and was then able to drop in another video source behind the deleted Matte background.
Alright! Thank you! I just do green screen by importing video files to After Effects to use Keylight anyway, but thanks VisualClarity! I'll definitely try that out sometime!
I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I don't have the Blue Screen Key or the Chroma Key. Do you have to download them from somewhere or do you have to have the appropriate footage in order for those options to appear?
I work on a PC not a Mac. Perhaps Macs handle it differently, assuming you're on a Mac. You might ask your question at Adobe's website, under Support/Forums.
I did. It turns out that there's no chroma or blue screen keys available for Premiere Pro for the Mac... I should have bought Final Cut. At least I have After Effects that can do Green Screen. Thank you for your help!
Yes. That's precisely why me and the professional video and film industry prefer Macs over Windows based PC's. Because they suck ass.
Nah, I personally prefer a high end computer with an OS that can do more than just play games. I'm the type to get straight to editing rather than fucking around with optimizing my system for software, getting drivers to work and constantly de-fragging my hard-drive. Linux Distros do a better job at file management for god's sake... and they're free...
You can crop as much as you want. For example, if you place three video layers on top of each other, you can crop each one so that you see 3 narrow videos playing at once, side-by-side. Just experiment.
In Star Wars they supported a spaceship in front of a green screen and flew the camera by the spaceship. So instead of a guy sitting in front of a greeen screen, like in my video, they placed a spaceship (on a narrow green pole supporting it) and moved the camera. Give it a try. It's really the same thing as I show, but move the camera forward to simulate a spaceship moving.
Thanks for the feedback! I thought they put it on strings... silly of me to think that.. I searched for a tutorial but no one has any... but thanks again for the input.
You can flood the green screen with lamps from the left and right, at 45-degree angles. I use cheap floor lamps, each having three bulbs--plenty of light.
When I say "no shadows" I simply mean it is best to avoid shadows. You might get some, especially if the subject is right in front of the green screen. I'm about 4 feet in front, so I practically cast no shadow. Just do some tests. I don't have any other special knowledge on this subject. I just experiment.
you can use blue or green, because they are furthest from skin colour. Don't use colours like red, pink or yellow because they are quite similar to skin colour, and don't wear the same colour clothes!!
i did it and it worked amazingly! now its a little bit different for me because my room walls were painted green making the need for fabric setup useless and thus giving me more time to focus on the lighting and the camera.
Very good. Thanks!

awesome - was sent to me by a friend as we're doing a green screen production today... funny, i have the same equipment you got, too. XHA1 and the HV30, which btw, i picked up recently and is an outstanding little machine for getting 2nd angles, esp handheld for staying low-key to your subjects and still get in their face (like stage or events). Excellent tutorial of the green screen setup and CS4 usage to get the effect. i am subbing. cheers!

can this work with a white wall?
1120official 1 year ago
@1120official Using various colors will present problems. Greens and blues are traditionally used. White? Give it a try. Do a test. However many colors will be too close to your subject in front of the screen. White might be too close to a person's skin color, or perhaps they're wearing a white shirt. Do a test and see.

@dteubner Ok ill Try it out thankss.

@dteubner Very nice video..I work with Adobe Premiere pro cs5. I have set up a screen green with even light...I ordered a costume and it has green in it..Is there any clever way to isolate the back ground from the subject, even if I need to render out in different files?
Ahhapictures 1 year ago
@Ahhapictures You really have CS5? I didn't think that shipped yet. Anyway, you have a problem if you're wearing green yourself and trying to use a green screen behind the subject. There's something called rotoscoping, where you silhouette the subject frame by frame and can create a mask that way. I think After Effects CS5 might have an improved rotoscoper, but not sure about Premiere Pro CS5. Do some tests. But the simplest fix is to not wear anything green yourself. Good luck.
dteubner 1 year ago
@dteubner Oops..typo..I have cs4..I decided to split the screen half green and half blue..the blue will go behind the subject wearing some green, since the Green screen covers the entire wall..I feel this will solve my problem..Rotoscoping would be a nightmare, since the subject in green will be moving..thanks!

@dteubner u can get it also as a trial. i got it but i have no how to do the green screen effect.... :S

can this work with white or black backgrounds?
foztee 1 year ago
@foztee In theory any color will work. But some colors will be too close to skin tones or the clothes people are wearing. Give it a try and see if it works.

what if i use a Brown color?or red? what happens?
jinkis4 1 year ago
@jinkis4 Brown or red can work, but those two colors may be similar to skin color. There's a risk that you'll key out faces if you use either of those colors. Typically bright green is used because it is farthest from skin tones. But, you can always give it a try.

ZenoX41 1 year ago
can you use any flat wall?
ZenoX41 1 year ago
@ZenoX41 Yes, if the color is different enough from the object you're videotaping. Blue or Green are popular colors. Give it a try, see what happens.
dteubner 1 year ago
@ZenoX41 If you live in an Apt. maybe you can't. Or if you are a child looking at this, then maybe you can't.

Chroma Key for CS4 on Macs -
@Aloyalgamer - Hey, I just got CS4 too and figured out how to do green screen....go to video effects, keying, Remove Matte. Select the color background you are using and use the controllers to delete it. I just tried it and was then able to drop in another video source behind the deleted Matte background.
VisualClarity 1 year ago
Alright! Thank you! I just do green screen by importing video files to After Effects to use Keylight anyway, but thanks VisualClarity! I'll definitely try that out sometime!

tanks man ive been wanting to do green screen for 2 years thanks to you ive maniged to do tanks alot man
laserbeemhead 1 year ago
I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I don't have the Blue Screen Key or the Chroma Key. Do you have to download them from somewhere or do you have to have the appropriate footage in order for those options to appear?
Aloyalgamer 1 year ago
I work on a PC not a Mac. Perhaps Macs handle it differently, assuming you're on a Mac. You might ask your question at Adobe's website, under Support/Forums.
dteubner 1 year ago
I did. It turns out that there's no chroma or blue screen keys available for Premiere Pro for the Mac... I should have bought Final Cut. At least I have After Effects that can do Green Screen. Thank you for your help!
Aloyalgamer 1 year ago
@Aloyalgamer thats because macs suck ass.
Dinglebarriez 1 year ago
Linux Distros do a better job at file management for god's sake... and they're free...

what happens if u crop and theres no green screen?
MsMediaSherpa 2 years ago
You can crop as much as you want. For example, if you place three video layers on top of each other, you can crop each one so that you see 3 narrow videos playing at once, side-by-side. Just experiment.
dteubner 1 year ago
Nice work!!!
do you know how to green screen a spaceship? For example like star wars..
PboyeTV 2 years ago
In Star Wars they supported a spaceship in front of a green screen and flew the camera by the spaceship. So instead of a guy sitting in front of a greeen screen, like in my video, they placed a spaceship (on a narrow green pole supporting it) and moved the camera. Give it a try. It's really the same thing as I show, but move the camera forward to simulate a spaceship moving.
dteubner 2 years ago
Thanks for the feedback! I thought they put it on strings... silly of me to think that.. I searched for a tutorial but no one has any... but thanks again for the input.

can i ask you to post a video on which ways to position the light so there is no shadow? or can you just tell me...
chindianism 2 years ago
You can flood the green screen with lamps from the left and right, at 45-degree angles. I use cheap floor lamps, each having three bulbs--plenty of light.
When I say "no shadows" I simply mean it is best to avoid shadows. You might get some, especially if the subject is right in front of the green screen. I'm about 4 feet in front, so I practically cast no shadow. Just do some tests. I don't have any other special knowledge on this subject. I just experiment.
dteubner 2 years ago
@chindianism make both lamps at the same angle facing toward the middle of your green screen.

Does this program let you do the effects without recording a video. Like doing the effects live from your cams and add effects.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but does it *have* to be a green screen, or will any uniform background colour do?
Ramphas 2 years ago
Any color will do. But florescent green works well because people don't tend to wear such a green. But blue is also traditionally used.
dteubner 2 years ago
blue works well i find
connerocks 2 years ago 2
you can use a blue screen, of course
but you have to know, that you don't have to wear blue clothes by using a blue screen :D
because they became invisible
KingPign 2 years ago
Does it have to be a green screen? Because someone said something to me about being able to use a blue screen!
HarryEvansTV 2 years ago
You can theoretically use any color. Blue works. Just don't wear blue clothing if you're using a blue screen.
dteubner 2 years ago
@HarryEvansTV
you can use blue or green, because they are furthest from skin colour. Don't use colours like red, pink or yellow because they are quite similar to skin colour, and don't wear the same colour clothes!!

nothing. just not looking in the right places
hoohuser77 2 years ago
i did it and it worked amazingly! now its a little bit different for me because my room walls were painted green making the need for fabric setup useless and thus giving me more time to focus on the lighting and the camera.
hoohuser77 2 years ago
wow. that looks so simple. for some reason though I doubt it is...
