I think zorkatron986 makes a great point about the difference between a kids movie and a silly movie. I kinda surprised that you decided to get into name calling, as opposed to replying to the comments made. Why even reply if you're really not going to say anything?
this movie was good in some aspects like the batman suit and the batmobile but terrible in others like two-face burns (that don't look real) and how OTT jim carrey was
What a joke, you can't just simply pass most of what's wrong with this off as "Well it's a kid's movie, what do you want?" mindset. You don't have to dumb entertainment down for kids. The Animated Series is a perfect example of this and it appealed to kids and adults AND it still managed to stay true to the comics.
Also, what about the millions of kids who watched and enjoyed the original Batman movie done by Burton? Kids also love Nolan's movies.
This was in no way shape or form better than batman returns. I was only 8 when I saw the batman movies and I didn't like this better than Batman or Batman returns. I don't know if I watched the 90's animated series to much but I thought this was way to kooky to be a Batman movie.
As much as I hate Schumacher's films(with the exception of The Lost Boys), Forever still has a place in my heart. As a Burton fan, I love and miss the gothic tone of the 1st two films and I also enjoy the gritty realism of the Nolan films, but there's something about Forever. It still had that Burton vibe to it, Kilmer was a good Batman, Carrey was awesome as Carrey, the action was good and the soundtrack was okay. Not as good as Returns but still entertaining. It's a guilty pleasure if anything
@3:25 you say Robbin looks like he's in he's twenties.Could you explain to me what you meant when you said that? Coz (if my memory serves me right), The actor was 25 at the time?
It's not that campy, because in the film there were some dark moments. For example, Batman trying to deal with his past and Robin wanting to get revenge on two-face for killing his parents and brother. So there is some dark moments.
I really think that this was aimed for younger audience, in this case for kids. Actually, this one was the very first Batman movie I saw. Later I saw the Tim Burton movie, and I can tell that the original Batman was meant for adults more than kids.
Am I the only one here who agrees with NecroVMX in terms of Batman Returns being far overrated? Seems to be. I didn't like Selina Kyle, Catwoman or Danny De Vito as the Penguin most of the time. There wasn't enough appearance of Batman/Bruce Wayne making it a film about animal type villains who weren't really villains. Batman Forever was so much better than it's predecessor.
I didn't mean it like that.; I meant with saying that the opening scene is awesome & then, it all goes down-hill, from there. Possibly a change in the writing staff to make the movie better?
Also, for the "Fuck ya!" remark, that wasn't called for, Bro. I'd appreciate it.
@NecroVMX Me Personally I Dont Have A Problem Robin As A Character, My Problem Is With Dick Grayson. He Always Comes Across As A Whiny Little Bitch.
If Christopher Nolan Decides To Put Robin Into His Batman Series, I Think Tim Drake Will Be The Perfect Robin Because He Got The Proper Training And Actually Earned The Right To Fight Along Side Batman, Plus I Think Drake Would Be A Better Fit For A Nolan Movie Than Grayson Anyway.
The opening scene IS awesome. It's only once the Riddler comes into place that the movie goes whack. IN ADDITION, Batman Forever had a lot of problems in its production. You can find on YouTube on a few deleted scenes. In addition, one common believe was that the opening scene was meant to be THE climax.
One problem (among SO many) I had with this movie was Why did Bruce wayne have to take in Robin at all? I mean the guy had to be in his mid to late 20s! If they had gotten a younger teenage actor it would have made sense....Pretty much the only good thing about this one was Nicole Kidman when she was really in her good looks prime!
Batman Forever wasn't good film. They mixed too many characters, the storyline was weak, visual effects weren't great - all these things made this film look too chaotic. Not to mention boring. Even Batman & Robin was much better than this one
I loved this movie, but (obviously) I was kid when I watched it over and over again, so yeah. I just watched it again a few days back, and I still think it's good. I loved Tommy Lee and Jim Carrey in it, because their characters were over the top and funny.
This movie isn't too bad, it's not as good as the first movie but I enjoyed it a bit more than the second film. It was a bit of a mixed bag with more good than bad.
Although I disagree with your opinion, as in Batman Forever was mixed, I thought it was a damn good movie, but I agree in terms of Batman Forever being superior to Returns.
It's one of those movies that's pretty polarized among fans, it has its flaws here and there, but I'm always feeling very satisfied everytime I watch it. The previous film leaves me feeling very melancholy and empty. Besides, I think it has the best action sequences of the original four. I think the problem is that people like Batman movies that take themselves too seriously. I just need to watch it again.
Yeah, Batman Returns was mediocre. The villains kind of sucked, there was no backstory in terms of Bruce Wayne, Alfred didn't appear much and it was just a weird movie that felt different in comparison to the other three. Out of the first four, Batman Forever is definitely my favorite, followed by Batman '89, then Returns followed by Batman & Robin (terrible movie).
Definitely, I remember being a little kid in the nineties and watching that awesome animated series. Merchandise for Batman Forever was everywhere and I always wanted to see it. When I did watch it as a teenager I realized it was worth the wait. When I was little, the only live action Batman movie I'd ever seen was the sixties movie, another misunderstood Batman classic.
@NecroVMX Hmm....'butcher job' was kinda harsh. Admittedly, they tried too hard to make a dictomy between her character and Batman's, and the whole 'Shrek vendetta' thing was overdone, but as a 'skewed anti-heroine' foil to Batman and a love interest to Bruce, she played the role well. Phiffer also caught the sexy, dangerous, kinky part of Catwoman, without belaboring the point.
My big issue: they didn't develope her character in-story enough, and the ending had NO balance
This was a horrible Batman movie, but a decent movie. Second only to the 89 film in terms of the previous series. Riddler was an interesting mix of Gorshin and the BTAS version of the characters.
I always liked this one, probably my favorite of the first 4 films. Val was a better Batman then Bruce Wayne.
I think this one does get a bad rap and it's not as bad as people remember, but of course Tommy Lee Jones's Two Face has been completely undermined by Aaron Eckhart and with good reason.
My inner 5 year old really wants to like Batman Forever just because of the colorful world it has, but this movie is simply a show off of CGI and over the top performances. I never liked it as a kid and i doubt i'll change my mind. I give Batman Forever a 6 out of 10.
man---give me a break. Keaton never changed at ALL when he became Bruce Wayne. At least Kilmer attempted to act differently when Bruce Wayne, such as the professionalism of his job and everything.
The movie is enjoyable, but it requires a certain mood to be that. Otherwise it's just annoying. Robin was horrible (well the whole character is to begin with, so what would anyone expect), Twoface was just weird, in a bad way...I guess the good stuff comes from Carrey's Riddler.
But there is no way this could ever surpass Burton's Batman-movies on my list.
the movie has a different tone seeing as how batman is not so dark, the first two gave it a darker tone because joker kills a ganster by shocking him and then talking to a skeleton and in batman returns catwomen kills max shreck and when batman saw shrecks body its all skeleton form so the movie had to be lighter
The character of Max Shreck was a re-write of District Attorney Harvey Dent. If Catwoman killed Dent at the end of Batman Returns (1992) and Dent was scarred pretty badly due to the explosion, Harvey Dent will surely transform into Two-Face for this third Batman movie. If this was materialized, Schumacher's Batman Forever will surely be a direct sequel to Tim Burton's Batman Returns
I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Forever is just too childish for me. Batman Returns was really dark and felt the most like a real Gotham City. The Penguin's acting might not have been great, but they definitely nailed the look. It was probably the first feature film about Batman I ever watched and Penguin scared the crap out of me as a kid. Catwoman's story made sense (to me), Christopher Walken was just perfect, Keaton was better than Kilmer, and Robin was left out of it.
I agree, and I'm glad you don't have an all/nothing review like most douche bags! Schumacher's Batman's had incredibly entertaining sets with enormous attention to detail. This is something I appreciate about the '95 and '97 films. I think Kilmer was cool as Batman despite being kinda bland.

I enjoyed Batman Forever for what it was. It had no intentions of being a good "Batman" film, it was an homage to the old Adam West TV show. I thought Val Kilmer was a pretty good Bruce Wayne, but a boring Batman. The other actors are fine in their roles. Thanks for the dreamy Nicole Kidman pics.
why should batman be aimed just at kids , the comics sure were not , the batman films were not aimed at young children so i guess its ok if there is burned skeletons
I don't think it this is a good movie if you are over ten. I HATE Robin. He reminds me more of Jason Todd than Dick Grayson. On the bright side Batman responded to Robin's Holy line they way it should all ways be
I liked Kilmer more than Keaton, however, I'm not saying this is better than Batman 89. Keaton to me wasn't good at either Bruce or Batman, especially since he acted like a nerdy, weak Peter Parker. I felt that Kilmer was more like the Batman seen in the 90s animated series as well. Saying "What they are like in the comics, is what they should be!" is a bit flawed, since the comics and everything about Batman changed after so many decades, going form "cheesy" to "dark".
The thing is that Burton, still had some influence to this movie so it wasnt as bad as the following movie. Yeah this movie is cheesy and to bright, but i can still swallow it and enjoy the movie.
I actually liked Robin in this one. Robin was more like a teenager. And also this film was kind of dark when they went back to Bruce Wayne's parents' death. They added more detail than they did in Tim Burton's Batman. I agree with you on Two Face. He was too silly and he's not supposed to be like that. The Riddler however I did like. Also the bat nipples I thought was a minor minor problem. There were no extreme close ups. I'd give it 8/10. Better than Returns and B&R but doesn't beat TB's.
Robin was a lot better in this movie cause of losing his parents and wanting to kill Two-Face, and Bruce of course has to take him in and give him the guidance that he needs. In "Batman & Robin" all he does is complain about being the sidekick and even thinks that he and Batman both have a crush on Poison Ivy (but I guess this could have led to him becoming Nightwing if the original films were to have continued).
They actually had planned for him to call himself Nightwing in "Batman Triumphant" which thankfully was canned. If you notice the costume he wears in B&R is a lot more nightwing than robin.
It must only be me, but I loved all the batman movies. I thought they were great. Given I was only 12 in 97 so yeah I'd have to agree that it was geared toward my generation at that time. I'd give it a 8 out of 10. Only out of my opinion that I thought it was great.
Actually Burton was kicked off. Keaton just left. Keaton was a good batman. Dumb ass Warner Bros kicked Burton off and Burton was left to be an executive producer. Lets not forget the gayest line this movie has "partner". Not just a side kick...a 'life' partner.
Sorry but I disagree with what you think about Michael Keaton. His batman was terrible, he had a terrible batman voice. This was a great movie though, I enjoyed it very much.
i'm a big batman fan, but i enjoyed it all the same. as a batman fan, you either only like one aspect of it, or learn to realize there will always be different interpretations.
the one interpretation i'll never be able to stand is batman & robin. i know it was done by the same guy, but it was just so bad. and batman forever doesnt deserve to be stuck with that movie, it's so much better.
and i thought robin was ok, he SUCKED in the next one though.
Wow I never thought anyone would say this one is better than Batman Returns. Good review though, you almost made me want to re-watch it and give it another chance.
I thought Val Kilmer was a good Batman, and I didn't mind Robin. But my biggest beef, by far, was the horrible overacting by Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey. Great actors, but terrible at portraying comic book villains. The only one that's worse IMHO was Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor. Thank the Hyrulean Goddesses for Kevin Spacey and Aaron Eckhart's performances in the new movies.
I think zorkatron986 makes a great point about the difference between a kids movie and a silly movie. I kinda surprised that you decided to get into name calling, as opposed to replying to the comments made. Why even reply if you're really not going to say anything?

Here are some of the things I've liked about the film:
Val Kilmer had the best looking batsuit of the original films except for the nipples.
The introduction of Robin.
Jim Carrey as The Riddler (What can I say? Jim Carrey is always funny to me).
"Kiss from a Rose" is one of the best songs ever!
I think my one and only real problem with this movie now is it's portrayal of Two-Face. Aaron Eckhart did a much better job.
ToonPoop9000 3 years ago
I actually liked Robin in this one. Robin was more like a teenager. And also this film was kind of dark when they went back to Bruce Wayne's parents' death. Say what you want about 'Batman Forever', "It's made more-so for kids.", which I don't believe.
To this day, I still watch this movie & I have it in my collection.

I think you're too harsh on batman forever and too generous to batman returns, but other than that, we're in agreement.

@NecroVMX - Exactly my point. Returns is damn overrated, while Forever is underrated as fuck, but based on both films, the positives, negatives =
Forever >>> Returns

Actually Burton was kicked off. Keaton just left. Keaton was a good batman. Dumb ass Warner Bros kicked Burton off and Burton was left to be an executive producer. Lets not forget the gayest line this movie has "partner". Not just a side kick...a 'life' partner.

Sorry but I disagree with what you think about Michael Keaton. His batman was terrible, he had a terrible batman voice. This was a great movie though, I enjoyed it very much.

i thought the movie was decent.
i'm a big batman fan, but i enjoyed it all the same. as a batman fan, you either only like one aspect of it, or learn to realize there will always be different interpretations.
the one interpretation i'll never be able to stand is batman & robin. i know it was done by the same guy, but it was just so bad. and batman forever doesnt deserve to be stuck with that movie, it's so much better.
and i thought robin was ok, he SUCKED in the next one though.
