  • what is happening?? This choreography is out of control. In a really good way.

  • i agree with all your comments and i share your wishes for such shows to come back and hope they produce SHA NA NA DVDs.Rock on!!!

  • Doo-Wop + Japanese Game Show = Sha-Na-Na

  • lmao

  • Bowser looks cute.

  • don't know weather or not anyone knows this, but John Bowser is actually a concert pianist

  • We need this music to come back!

  • LOVE this by Lennie. this is better than the original

  • Amazing they have no mics but ya can hear then.....zzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Could those gold pants get any tighter? (I say with much love and affection) I miss watching these guys on tv. Definitely had favorites when I was a kid - Bowzer, Screamin' Scott, Lennie & Jocko, but now I can appreciate all of them.

  • Sha Na Na in their prime was surely one of the great Doo Wopp groups of all time. Due to the fact that they came around after doo Wopp was over they are overlooked. Always one of my favorites.

  • what does bowzer sing at 1:00?

  • @Gleitgelvogel

Tell me you won't leave me

Baby Doll, you're never gonna leave me

  • @Gleitgelvogel

Tell me you won't leave me,

Baby doll, yo' never gonna leave me!

Being a bass myself, I know exactly how hard it is for people to understand us... mildly depressing, really.

  • isn't lennie baker dead for yo -yo dieting? or is that someone else i'm thinking of

  • @Kalkas53 Lenny is still alive and singing. He just did a concert with Bowser and Johnny.

  • great stuff 5*****

  • Great version of this Doo wop classic.

  • A bunch of the songs SNN sing I'd prefer over the original artists.

  • umm i dint try to discredit you and i also collect the same records that you do but i was born in 1970 and havent had all the priveleges thst you do

  • what year was this episode?

  • Too bad this song wasn't a bigger hit by the original group.

  • they were so great!

  • Listen to this and then listen to Stranger Girl in the movie The Wanderers!

  • @theazzlvr........I collect records and I know more about R&B vocal harmony as it was known in the 1950's only since the late 60's was it called doo wop by the white industry. u are just cynical & critical of my knowledge because u have an "issue" with someone younger than u knowing more about this genre of American music. but u are entitled to your opinion and your cynicism, as incorrect as it may be.

  • Lol... You can't just look something like this up in a record guide. Anyone that owns a guide knows that they're listed by group or label and not by song title. You'd have to read the book from the start to fish out a track by meerly it's title.

All that matters is you know your music. You don't need to prove yourself to anyone... The collectors that know their stuff can tell the real deal from a faker.. You're the real deal JR

  • You are correct PJ about the record guide. this cat wanted to discredit me,he is pissed because ppl like you and I know our stuff. we knew alot as teens and we know more now . we learn everyday. this guy does not like when ppl younger than he is, knowing more than he. he's the fool. thanks for your support PJ!

  • Dicky Dell & the Bing Bongs did this in 1958 Dragon Rec. Co. No.10205

  • cmon dude anyone can look that up in a grecord guide

  • what's your point? "dude" w/e that is

  • wtf

  • they did it 1st ,originators

  • hey i totally agree i was just saying that anyone can look up a guide and find out who sang what sheesh you l=can look it up on internet too

i meant no offense and i am 39 and i love the music if i offended you im sorry sir

  • why, oh why, are these shows not on DVD??? I would totally buy the whole set!!

  • Awsome! Hello from Zacatecas Mexico Long Live Rock & Roll!

  • Great Group. Great Song. It is unfortunate the original group did not have this song played nationwide instead of just regional.

  • This is what this world lacks now - fun songs that just make you happy!

  • Agreed, this song really makes me happy inside!

  • Brother, ...... Now THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT !

  • This has been so great getting reacquainted with one of my favorite bands from my childhood. ALWAYS watched the show from 1980 to around 1982 or so. Bowzer was definitely my childhood hero and it's taken me viewing these old show segments to realize that! I loved him! YES! LET'S GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD....NOW!

  • MattHatter: Sha Na Na is on DVD - I saw in the store.

  • Where did you see it? I saw it a few years ago at Hollywood Video in their TV series section, but it was removed soon after. Now, they are gone. Where do I go?

  • ill take this over todays rap crap, anti white filth,

  • Bowzer puts so much energy into his singing

  • true

  • Uncle Walt liked this video so much, he sent it to his niece, MICHELLE for her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICHELLE!!

  • These guys are so great at what they do

  • This bears repeating here: IF you love SNN as I do you can go to their official website and under LINKS at the bottom is a link to Sha Na Na Fan Pages by Cheryl and then on her site there is a link saying "HELP GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD!"

  • Bowser had the best bass voice ever!!

  • SOOOOO FREAKING RIGHT!!!!!

  • @SkippyWalls

He was great, but Ernie Ford and Alberto Vasquez singing 16 tons are comparable.

  • @ljr327 Does no one ever remember Thurl Ravenscroft?

Now THERE was an amazing voice. Dinna believe me? watch teh grinch, or listen to this.

    /watch?v=etdMM6VsBos

  • @Ironsouled everyone knows Thurl whether they know the name or not. Even if they never saw the Grinch, can't imagine anyone doesn't know Tony the Tiger. Awesome voice. Think Bowser was more versatile though.

  • @Ironsouled Never knew his name. I do recognize him now that I saw his pic. Who can forget Tony the Tiger?

  • @SkippyWalls Bowser was one of the nicest members of Sha Na Na. He, Donny, and Johnny were really nice to the terrible tri who sat in the audience every week.

  • I'm firing off a letter tomorrow. I ADORE these boys. Been here all day watching these FABULOUS clips.

Donny and Santini are my personal fav's. OOOO they can serenade me 24/7

  • Sounds like Bowzer keeps repeating the first half of his name! (LOL)

  • ohoh,

You revealed the secret on why he is called BOWzer .... :)

  • I thought he was called Bowzer because his last name is Bauman, and it's pronounced "bow-man."

  • lol, kangadillo ...

I was only "playing with words" ...

... extending the humor in your comment.

    ... nothing more :)

  • Whoops, sorry. As Bowzer might say, "Yo, not for nuttin' , dat's freakin' funny!"

  • "These clips are not as of yet on VHS &/or DVD, nor even on Blu-Ray, sorry, head to Johnny C.'s fansite, this gal named Cheryl has 1-part of her site devoted to: Johnny C., & the other to: Sha-Na-Na, on the Sha-Na-Na site, there's info on how to request the shows' of Sha-Na-Na/TV-Era one has to write to these people, yet it can be done, even if one can make a petition for such a request, which I'd sign!!"

  • Why are there quotation marks around this statement?

  • Why not.

  • You mean, "Why not." ?

  • This Song is really called

Ding A Ling A Ling Ding Dong

by Dicky Dell & the Bing Bongs

  • no,whispering bells and I hear bells were by the Del-Vikings this is done by Dickey Dell and the Bing Bongs 1958

  • Bowzer was a the ba-ba-ba-da-ding-a-dong-do-bop-best!

  • I heard that the slender dude with the thinning hair is now a doctor. Kudos to you! You didn't let 15 minutes of fame on a dorky show slow you down.

  • Doctor of Linguistics, yes.

  • "Dr. Robert A. Leonard is Professor of Linguistics at Hofstra University. His specialty is Forensic Linguistics as applied to U.S. law. He directs the Linguistics Program, and is also Professor of Swahili... In the arts, Dr. Leonard co-founded and led the rock group Sha Na Na and as bass and lead singer performed at the Woodstock Festival, the Fillmores East and West, on television's Tonight Show, and in the Academy Award-winning Woodstock movie."

  • Sha Na Na was the fucking bomb back in the day yo.

  • i'm just saying..i saw a few post where people said they like this guy the best and i didn't see why they did.

  • Uhh...he was suposed to. He was a back up singer and sang the bass back up vocals.

  • Bowzer was always my fav...Nice pants!

  • I want to start by saying you are all wrong.. my dad Mike Rampino (Ramps) was a singer as a teenager in a group call THE TROYS from Schnectady ave in East New york Brooklyn. They made this song i know one of the other singers was nicknamed Irish. When they went to record the song the record label said they would have to use Dickey Dell if they were to record it, being teenagers they agreed. Ding Dong the song's original title was written as a slower ballad but was perked up to appeal to teens.

  • Bowzer - if you called me "baby doll" like that not only would I never leave you, you'd never be able to get rid of me! Am I the only girl that had a huge crush on him? Still do - he's awesome!

  • Greetings from Denmark Faerydancer. Keep posting Sha Na Na clips, please. They have never been surpassed.

  • God bless Faerydancer !!!! Thank you !!!!

  • GREAT! Thanks for posting!

  • who sang the original song?

  • Dicky Dell and the Bing Bongs sang the original. Dicky Dell is actually my dad and we've been trying to get a copy of this forever. Thanks Faerydancer!

  • Ramps has an original 45 of the song we found it years ago...maybe we can email you the tune

  • The orgininal song was performed by Dicky Dell and the Ding Dongs and my father was the lead singer, Dicky Dell. He was 15 when he recorded it with Dragon Records in 1958. It was a great surpise for him to come across this video. Thank you for posting it.

  • ok are you both his kids or whats going on?:)

    but thanks for the info

  • Yes, we are both his daughters. However, my sister's information was more accurate, the name of the group is Dicky Dell and the Bing Bongs (I guess I'm a little rusty)! Thanks again, we really enjoyed this posting.

  • Ask Dickey if he remembers Ramps my dad would love to speak to him..they were great times from what my dad tells us.. I am one of 6 children and he would sit us all on the couch as tots and he would give us all something to sing and we would harmonize. I remember watching SHA NA NA when they opened the show with this song he was running around the house crying and jumping up and down and i remember the phone ringing and it was Irish asking if he saw it..they were crying together.

  • Best ever

  • WOW thanks for posting this. I LOVE IT,I LOVE IT

  • I totally love Sha Na Na!!! Thanks for adding this video!

  • It's about time that I saw something new on Sha Na Na. I've asked Faerydancer to respond to me on how I could get these old clasics, but with no response. And finally a new video has arrived! Bowser and Johnny is the greatest in the group, but Lenny (in this one) has a great voice. However, the entire group complements eachother!!

  • Sorry for the no response! Been busy lately. The videos aren't really available. Just a collection of fans taped episodes awhile back. These clips are from that. I'm doing my best to get as much of it up here, though!

  • Thanks for posting these---they truly are great

  • Once again-thanks for these new clips. Leonbutterworth - be patient - it's all worth waiting for!!

  • Will you be posting more song clips from Sha na na? These have been GREAT!!!!!

  • Faerydancer has done us proud yet again!! Well worth waiting for!!
