The Cybertron saga was probably Budiansky's finest moment. Pity it all went downhill a few years later with things like 'Skullgrin Goes to Hollywood' and that micromaster wrestling nonsense.

Cool story. Awesome editing and audio add. I wanna get the comic book now. OMG! As a matter of fact, I remember some of these scenes. I think my older brother had this one, cuz I remember the bad guy had an axe, and that gold robot

Nice overview Doc! Makes me all nostalgic thinking about it - I was genuinly scared of the smelting pool as a kid, and more so when a kinda version of it appeared inside Unicron in the 1986 movie!

"The Smelting pool" was really one of the grimmest, darkest ideas from the old marvel comics - the way they shown Cybertron as this nightmarish place, with all the "Civilians" begging for Energon and spare parts... it might have been too close to the reality of a real warzone for kids to really comprehend, but even as an adult, I find this story very, very disturbing.
