Synyster Gates fucks all. What I love about Brian, is that he is very melodic. He rarely shreds. Hammett mostly shreds his guitar. Brian plays melodic guitar solos. Don't get me wrong, I respect Hammett and recognize that he is very talented. It's not easy to shred your guitar and make it sound good, which Hammett does do, it's just that I prefer the more melodic solos. A7X foREVer. And I respect both bands, so this is not a biased opinion. I DO prefer A7X, but this is one of the reasons why ;)

I think Metallica is much more revolutionary then Ax7 for the fact that they were the first real professional thrash band that mixed punk and metal. I think if you were to put Syn up against Hammett in a guitar duel off of improv, Syn would probably win because although I love Metallica, Kirk does kinda basic pentatonics. Metallica is better at riff writing though because all the songs aren't drop D basic riffs. So Metallica is more revolutionary, but Syn has better improv and theory.

It's like saying which solo is better Seize the Day or Afterlife. Afterlife is nothing but intense shredding that requires beyond imaginable guitar skills... but Seize the Day is full of emotion and Syn successfully made his guitar cry.
