Yesterday I was able to watch an entire movie online using the DivX Web Player. It was an amazing cinematic experience in spite of the buffering. I don't think YouTube has much future as a video sharing site with its 10 minute clips. They had better focus more on the community.

On Joox dot net I was able to watch "I Am Legend", a movie still in theaters. Looks like someone uploaded a screener's DVD. So now people aren't posting little clips of copyrighted material, they are posting the entire movie.

Hey Tom, happy new year.

Here's my sobering thought! A user called wukdar left me a comment because I made a video in Sarajevo; he's from BiH. His latest video tells how he's left discussions in his language on YT because they're so hate filled. Some 'community' issues seem petty given that you can watch Balkan genocide videos on YT and see that the hatred continues to fester in the comments section.

Does 'community' just mean English-speaking westerners?

Plenty of non-English speaking community here, I suspect, but I'm not part of them for obvious reasons.

I think YT interaction reflects global conflicts. No surprise there. We ought not to expect YT to be more civilized than the day-to-day world, right?

Perhaps this recent experience just helped me see how small the 'community' we speak of is compared to the global reach of YT.
