  • This video is so inspiring, Thanks for the wise words.

  • Thanks very much.

  • I just realized we have been on since Aug 17, 2006! Longer than you? I guess I do know more than you! lol

  • Good to know you for a year now! YouTube is an awesome beginning to the future. Maybe, like the government, YouTube handlers should keep a low profile. Keeping it simple! By the way, You are one of my very favorite mind expanding friends! Freida

  • I like that...low profile...any lower and they'd be invisible!

    Thanks, Freida. You're pretty hip!

  • Excellent points as always tlg847, Thanks for creating inspiring and interesting content. I learn something from your videos every time I watch them. Hope to see more of your stuff this year :).

    Reagards,

    -Zenith Strife

  • Kind of you to say so. Thanks very much.

  • Hey Tom. I just moved to the Bronx today, on 180th street and Fort Washington ave.

  • Over there in that fancy Riverdale section, eh? Smart. Nice place to live. Good train service. Rea$onable. My business partner grew up over there and loved it. We East Bronx boys always laughed and told all those folks that they weren't from the "real Bronx." Have fun! t

  • Hey Brad! So there's a possibility that we will meet each other next August!

  • I guess we will not loose that communicating thing that makes part of us! Things happen around us and we will adapt, i believe so! Hug Tom! Happy 2008!

  • Hope so! Thanks and HNY!

  • Happy 2008!

  • Thanks, Justin. Keeping things in perspective is a continual challenge. I hope we all get better at it in '08.

  • Thanks, Peter. Kind of you to say so.

  • I'm with you, this has been a great ride this last year

  • Tom, I like your clear strong message. And I'm glad to be a part of this community, and look forward to the year ahead with everyone. Happy New Year, one and all.

  • I always look forward to hearing YouTube's point of view. Thank you!

  • I look forward to hearing YouTube's point of view also! I hope we do hear it more clearly soon...

  • You know what I meant. I was being cheeky. You're a good sport.

  • Happy new year Tom. You are a shining beacon of hope for the rest of us.

  • Kind of you to say that, TH. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  • Tom, I am a deeply bitter cynic (need I remind you?) I honestly don't care about the community. I do consider it a lovely plus. I don't have faith in its permanency. I know the evils of human nature.

You are one of the exceptions to the real (darker) human nature. You are a good man. Happy New year.

  • Human nature...there's a great topic for a video, isn't it?

    Have a super cynical '08!

    Thanks, tom.

  • Have a super cynical '08? Now THAT I can do!

I do plan to start creating videos... I am camera shy (almost psychotically camera-phobic) so my original videos will not feature my smiling mug. ;)

  • WATCH SC DEER AND SANTE

  • here's to you Tom...great vid

  • That was a pretty honest statement that YT has really done a very good job of sending a message to the community. We can only hope they demonstrate they care about communicating to the social community and not sweep that aside for professional content only. Let's see what happens.

  • Happy 08 Tom!

  • Happy New year...MIKMA WAS HERE

  • Happy New Year Tom. Getting to know you is one of the highlights of this extraordinary year for me. And by the way, I love money too.

  • I'enjoying getting to know you too, Tom.

    Have a wonderful 2008!

  • Happy New Year Tom!!!!! Hugs!!! : )

  • Happy New year Tom. We're just getting warmed up here. Looking forward to seeing you again in 08.

  • may 2008 hold what 2007 had and more! 2008 is going to be fantastic ^_^ I think that as long as there are people willing to stick with the community, that it'll never die. I think we should all be proud that we've been part of something taking its very first steps - imagine in TEN years time!

    happy new year Tom :)

  • The past few days while thinking about the New Year, and thoughts about thoughts, I have decided YouTube is like an arranged marriage. The pre dance ritual has been eliminated, and the introduction is instant. Most of my more intimate YT friends began this way. Happy New Year, Tom 2008 is going to be an exciting year.

  • TOM CAM!!! WHOA!!! :O

Is the camera in a little tight, Tom?

    Just kidding. :)

    Happy New Year!!

  • Happy New Year to You and Yours, Tom! I look forward to seeing you again in '08! Online and in person!

  • Brilliant video Tom! You have a way of saying what everyone is saying, but in a pallatable, understandable and acceptable way, thanks for that!

    Happy New Year!!!

  • Happy New Year Tom!

    Slow down and enjoy 2008

  • Happy New Year Tom! From John Reagan :)

  • Happy New Year!

  • I am just happy to be here participating in whatever capacity and am thrilled to be on the ride. I prefer the ups to the downs but all in all it's been a fun trip.

Cheers to 2008! Bring it on!

    Happy New Year, Tom!

    xxooxx

  • The way you said: "I hope you have a great New Year", didn't sound that well to me (7:47 to 7:49)

Anyway: Make 2008 yourself a fantastic year and help out others making their year a good one,

    Didier

  • It has been a fascinating year. Thank you for your part in my 2007.

BTW: It was Churchill who made that comment about democracy.

  • It has been an amazing year for sure. Great video, as always. Hope 2008 is a great year for you and for YouTube. Evolution happens whether we like it of not. Things change and grow - and sometimes growing can be painful. Cheers!

  • Great video Tom and Happy New Year to you.

  • Happy new year! Great video, love the time, 08:08

  • Happy New Year Tom.

  • Happy New Year Tom, lets hope 2008 is a good one

  • hey! happy new yearto you too. You are, in my opinion, one of the best youtubers out there, because you look at it from a different perspective, and ask what will happen with it in the future, where things will go, how things will change. And I think that is invaluable. Plus, you are cool.

  • Well Said...

  • I actually like where YT is going with the partners program. You can now play other people's partner videos on your own web page and share ad sense revenue. Are you a partner?

  • it just zoomed by,,,,HAPPY 2008

  • HNY Tom! (just left a long comment and i'm not convinced it registered)- we need to adapt and change to survive in the "NewTube"... it's not going to be easy, but it's worth a try!

  • Thank you, Steve. I hope you have a great year as well.

    Tom

  • Thanks, Sean, same to you. Look forward to a great '08.

  • Yesterday I was able to watch an entire movie online using the DivX Web Player. It was an amazing cinematic experience in spite of the buffering. I don't think YouTube has much future as a video sharing site with its 10 minute clips. They had better focus more on the community.

  • Excellent point, rob. Community and short clips is YT's niche. Where did you find the full-length film to watch via DivX?

  • On Joox dot net I was able to watch "I Am Legend", a movie still in theaters. Looks like someone uploaded a screener's DVD. So now people aren't posting little clips of copyrighted material, they are posting the entire movie.

  • I'll definitely check that out. Thanks.

  • Happy New Year

  • Thanks, Stuart, same to you.

  • Hey Tom, happy new year.

Here's my sobering thought! A user called wukdar left me a comment because I made a video in Sarajevo; he's from BiH. His latest video tells how he's left discussions in his language on YT because they're so hate filled. Some 'community' issues seem petty given that you can watch Balkan genocide videos on YT and see that the hatred continues to fester in the comments section.

Does 'community' just mean English-speaking westerners?

  • HNY!

Plenty of non-English speaking community here, I suspect, but I'm not part of them for obvious reasons.

I think YT interaction reflects global conflicts. No surprise there. We ought not to expect YT to be more civilized than the day-to-day world, right?

  • Very true, but it is this wing/branch/section of the community that has a community council. Do such things exist for other language groups?

Perhaps this recent experience just helped me see how small the 'community' we speak of is compared to the global reach of YT.

  • I think the huge global, non-English-speaking portion of the YT community has yet to assert itself. Look for that to happen in the near future.

  • Happy New Year Tom!

All the very very best for 2008,

    Vox.

  • Thanks, Vox. So glad you decided to come back! Best for a great '08!

    Tom
