AMD has improved a lot but they still scare me. AMD's processors can overheat too much and you have to keep replacing your PC every two years. Intel's chips last a lot longer than AMD. They get old too but they don't burn out at all.
Have you ever even used an AMD chip? Did you install it properly? Pentium 4s were like a goddamn forge while the Athlon 64s ran cool as ice. It's Intel that has improved a lot, not AMD.

AM2+ supports the AMD phenom II 940. you can check the specs of the cpu and see what socket the cpu has.. i also have AM2+ socket and i will buy the AMD phenom II black edition ^^

wow. you need three GPUs to match the speed of my computer. thats sad. i have an intel core 2 quad 2.66 Ghz and a nvidia 9500 GS which is the worst grafics card ive ever used. I can run any game on full grafics at any givin time without a hitch. AMD just failed.
UM only the i7 support it, the 775 did support ddr3 but it was no good because it wouldnt utilize it, it only utilized memory up 2 533mhz which is sad.

Yea, when Intel is making FAR superior chips, and advancing in technology at a much faster rate than AMD, and in fact almost completely running AMD out of business. Then yes the Intel marketing has done its jod. Along with their RandD. I used to love AMD to be honest, until they over-hyped the phenom, which is nothing more than a improved X2 which will still never compete with the Core 2 clock for clock.
The processors themselves in essence perform the same. Same performance levels, same stability. The difference currently would be that 45nm vs 65nm gap, which is killing AMD. It seems that AMD has brought your hopes down. Can't blame you, as I am slightly disappointed in the Phenoms. But they're not dead yet, and plan to launch 45nm processors soon. Give them some time to sort themselves out.
Yes but their CEO doesnt know how to run the company, and thats whats killing them, not Intel. AMD fails to come out with a NEW architecture to compete with the Core 2 and instead is focusing on getting their current (slower and older) K8/K10 architecture down to 32nm which wont help them AT ALL cuz the Core 2 will still beat that architecture clock for clock.
Develop a new architecture, fall even more behind. The only reasonable strategy they're doing right now is to release 45nm quad chips, which should occur soon. If a user doesn't overclock or play games, AMD is cheaper and fine for stuff. Their server chips aren't too shabby against Xeons. Not as great, but not a pushover. I'm not too interested in GHz, or clock speed. If a chip performs well on stock, that's the factor I look for. Fast, stable, cool. And cheap.

They just gotta go this route, or risk losing more market. Say AMD takes off for a few years, what will happen? Think Intel is going to develop newer things? Yes, but they wouldn't be in such a hurry. Prices gonna be low? Maybe, for lower-end chips.
If AMD offered $200 chips, and Intel offered $300 "faster" chips, the majority of buyers will rather save a hundred dollars than gain some clockspeed they'll never utilize anyways.

If they could actually match Intel's clock speeds then they would be better accepted and utilised more then they are currently. And all CPU's they release should be unlocked "Black" editions.

6) If 5 is possible, AMD should partner with Microsoft to develop Windows 7 which will incorporate this 'Fusion' OS design. Allowing the OS to be load in a matter of seconds (making an exact copy of a layer) to the second board. This would be the first dual-layer OS. When users use a single desktop and demand heavy performance, he can simply switch to single-layer and turn on the second board for added performance.
5) Introduce board designs which have two layers, (Two boards combined to make 1 in a sandwhich fold). This should be called AMD's Fusion technology, instead of the idiotic idea of combining CPU+GPU into a single core.(too many complications) In the dual-board design, user's who demand higher performance can just simply turn on the second motherboard and use its applications, or turn it off to save energy. This would allow greater flexibility for multitasking.
4(continued 2) Combine HyperTransport technology with the Standalone GPU processor, this would be even a greater feat and defeating the design of the PCI-E itself. People would then have better 3D graphics speeds in todays demanding 3D applications without the space hog of a add-on card.
4)(continued) Standalone Graphics cpu would allow AMD to generate more sells even when Intel is selling their cpu if their motherboard comes with a GPU socket. (this would be the death of the graphics card)
I believe AMD's only chance of survival is to develop a new platform instead of releasing these disappointing comparable feats of Intel. Instead they should 1)Develop a Vertical socket design that allows the processor to be partially submerge in water for better cooling then standard water cool. 2) Focus on power management features 3)Develop CPU hybrid technology (i.e. ability to shut off cores for better power consumption) 4) Develop a standalone/swappable graphics cpu instead of combining.
While you compare the two at a comparable price, the E8400 performs around 10-15% better and consumes almost half the power of the 6400+. (125watt AMD vs 65 watt Intel) Now you may think in the future the Tri-core will beat the E8400+'s performance but don't be fooled. Even if it did, their thermal design will be close to 85-100watts while costing more then the E8400.
AMD hasn't tried to keep their power consumption down, even the best AMD dual-core consumes almost twice as much energy as a comparable intel model at load. One can essentially question AMD's power management design. AMD fanboys seem to think a 185$ 90nm AMD processor over a 185$ 45nm Intel processor is a better deal.
For those who believe AMD is aiming to provide consumers with price-oriented processing units, don't be fooled. This strategy might have worked when the performance/price ratio was at a peak stake, but now the situation has changed. Take for example 189$ Q6600 as of now at fry's vs Phenom for over 200$+ with lower performance. It seems the table has turned and that Intel's cpu are dropping while AMD's cpu are rising with lower performance.

AMD needs to defer their focus on hardware technology(CPU;hyperthreading;etc.), rather invest in other essential (software) firmware technology with power management oriented designs. For the Phenom is one example of an ineffiecient thermal design and too much technology was incorporated in the core design then the power management. This is why Intel beats them in almost all the subjects, it is their ability to manipulate firmware designs.

Nvidia/Intel are much better than ATI/AMD right now and while AMD might show some faster CPU's than Intel in the near future I doubt AMD's advantage (if any) might last long.

Heck, even if AMD comes out with new processors...Intel has alredy planned to release the Nehalem processors in the 2nd half of 2008 with onboard memory controller, max of 8 cores and a totally rewritten core AMD is going to get some major beating.

AMD has lost ground to Intel... Their CPU fans are very noisy, and use twice the power as Intel CPU...
AMD tried to recover its losses by buying ATI.... ATI used to be better than Nvidia..

Yea, when Intel is making FAR superior chips, and advancing in technology at a much faster rate than AMD, and in fact almost completely running AMD out of business. Then yes the Intel marketing has done its jod. Along with their RandD. I used to love AMD to be honest, until they over-hyped the phenom, which is nothing more than a improved X2 which will still never compete with the Core 2 clock for clock.

The processors themselves in essence perform the same. Same performance levels, same stability. The difference currently would be that 45nm vs 65nm gap, which is killing AMD. It seems that AMD has brought your hopes down. Can't blame you, as I am slightly disappointed in the Phenoms. But they're not dead yet, and plan to launch 45nm processors soon. Give them some time to sort themselves out.

Yes but their CEO doesnt know how to run the company, and thats whats killing them, not Intel. AMD fails to come out with a NEW architecture to compete with the Core 2 and instead is focusing on getting their current (slower and older) K8/K10 architecture down to 32nm which wont help them AT ALL cuz the Core 2 will still beat that architecture clock for clock.

Develop a new architecture, fall even more behind. The only reasonable strategy they're doing right now is to release 45nm quad chips, which should occur soon. If a user doesn't overclock or play games, AMD is cheaper and fine for stuff. Their server chips aren't too shabby against Xeons. Not as great, but not a pushover. I'm not too interested in GHz, or clock speed. If a chip performs well on stock, that's the factor I look for. Fast, stable, cool. And cheap.

They just gotta go this route, or risk losing more market. Say AMD takes off for a few years, what will happen? Think Intel is going to develop newer things? Yes, but they wouldn't be in such a hurry. Prices gonna be low? Maybe, for lower-end chips.
If AMD offered $200 chips, and Intel offered $300 "faster" chips, the majority of buyers will rather save a hundred dollars than gain some clockspeed they'll never utilize anyways.

9) AMD need to focus less on integrating GPU and CPU technology and more on achieving CPU speeds to at least match their rivals.
If they could actually match Intel's clock speeds then they would be better accepted and utilised more then they are currently. And all CPU's they release should be unlocked "Black" editions.
A "Black" edition 3.8GHz quadcore Phenom would be very appealing I'd imagine and would go down a treat with quad graphics cards :)

This should be called AMD's Fusion technology, instead of the idiotic idea of combining CPU+GPU into a single core.(too many complications) In the dual-board design, user's who demand higher performance can just simply turn on the second motherboard and use its applications, or turn it off to save energy. This would allow greater flexibility for multitasking.

I believe AMD's only chance of survival is to develop a new platform instead of releasing these disappointing comparable feats of Intel. Instead they should 1)Develop a Vertical socket design that allows the processor to be partially submerge in water for better cooling then standard water cool. 2) Focus on power management features 3)Develop CPU hybrid technology (i.e. ability to shut off cores for better power consumption) 4) Develop a standalone/swappable graphics cpu instead of combining.

While you compare the two at a comparable price, the E8400 performs around 10-15% better and consumes almost half the power of the 6400+. (125watt AMD vs 65 watt Intel) Now you may think in the future the Tri-core will beat the E8400+'s performance but don't be fooled. Even if it did, their thermal design will be close to 85-100watts while costing more then the E8400.

AMD hasn't tried to keep their power consumption down, even the best AMD dual-core consumes almost twice as much energy as a comparable intel model at load. One can essentially question AMD's power management design. AMD fanboys seem to think a 185$ 90nm AMD processor over a 185$ 45nm Intel processor is a better deal.

For those who believe AMD is aiming to provide consumers with price-oriented processing units, don't be fooled. This strategy might have worked when the performance/price ratio was at a peak stake, but now the situation has changed. Take for example 189$ Q6600 as of now at fry's vs Phenom for over 200$+ with lower performance. It seems the table has turned and that Intel's cpu are dropping while AMD's cpu are rising with lower performance.

AMD needs to defer their focus on hardware technology(CPU;hyperthreading;etc.), rather invest in other essential (software) firmware technology with power management oriented designs. For the Phenom is one example of an ineffiecient thermal design and too much technology was incorporated in the core design then the power management. This is why Intel beats them in almost all the subjects, it is their ability to manipulate firmware designs.

ATI markets the Phenom as a "real" quad core and I couldn't care less.
That is just marketing in my opinion.
Performance is what counts, not names, marketing gimmicks or slogans.
But your right, Intel has the much more advanced design which can only mean good things for the future because AMD has a long way to go architecture and design wise.
