want to hear something really sick by vinnie listen to Tsunami with Holdsworth...shit in there that is of another world...he goes absolutely unbridled batshit
Vinnie, is the balance between great technical skills, and most important has the RIGHT attitude, he's a risk-taker. He said himself (with other words, "i go for things, and if i make a mistake, Hey man, at least i went for something!) i repsect him a lot as musician and human being. Me playing style is a mix of many things, but the GROOVE is the most imprtant thing. dont matter how complex you get, be in the pocket.
Holy good God! I know that saying he's the greatest drummer alive is not really accurate because of all the different genres, styles and tastes, but this guy to me is simply untouchable.
@studiofunkify No... he IS the greatest drummer alive. The only two people to even come close are Weckl and Gadd, but Vinnie is just on another level.
I have never heard a drummer with more impeccable timing then Vinnie. What you may think is a timing problem, is actually perfect subdivision of notes at different timing intervals. Vinnie is a true master of the drum set.
Really great and awesome but i recognised that he sometimes has micro- and especially macro- timing problems ,which must not be in case of a world class drummer
Your comment is ignorant. What you consider a "timing problem" is, in actuality, a reflection of Vinnie's complete mastery of time -- he has an amazing ability to seemingly bend the rules of time, creating polyrythmic and odd time phrases that most drummers could never even dream of. That's a part of his genius.
@SomedayHero haha, just kiddin, that was meant to be a joke, i just wanted to check out how easy you can start a "wave" of indignation by a simple comment ,but to avoid a Justin Bieber-like user fight i have to say that this guy is my favourite and with no doubt one of the best drummers of all time(ing):-)
good stuff...simple grooving with some great seasoning....what a chef...its the subtle stuff that just pops and his dynamics are very controlled. It's not his chops, but how he uses his musical sense when playing....that is where he really outshines in his approach...dig his playing.
@JezenThomas I asked because it sounds familiar to a clinic recording I have. After another listen, it IS from the same clinic (circa 1996) and it used to be on Houseofdrumming but I don't know if it is now.
there is "i hit things" on his bassdrum :D

Absolutely flawless! 10X Better WITHOUT the video- let your ears figure it out.
As long as it sounds that good who cares what it looks like.
