@nugeforprez Thanks! Yes, it's a Fender Stratocaster Deluxe HSS. I think for this song, I was using my Digitech GNX2 through the clean channel on my Marshall TSL100, but I can't remember for sure. It's not the setup I'm using anymore. :P

I agree :) Sometimes, though, if you don't have a good grip on the string and can't adjust your finger, it's easier to do vibrato with the whammy. I've improved a ton since this video, too! :)

DUDE, SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!

I'm performing this song next week and we had to chop it to 4 minutes, I did it a little differently though. We chopped the bit after the first solo and went straight to the slow part which leaves some room for improvising, and then to the ending riff after a few bars. I play it without the sweep as well, it's just unnecessary.

sweep = not necessary. petrucci doesn't do it in the demonstration if you watch it. i'm not trying to say that sweeping doesn't take skill, it does, but after you know how to do it, it's just another trick.

Quick question... When you decided "Im going to learn this song right now.." How long did it take you to learn the main opening riff? And by learn I mean memorize the notes that are supposed to be hit, not how long it took to play it perfectly. Just curious because I am trying to learn this song.

It doesn't take more than a couple minutes to memorized the first short lick, but it takes some time to get it up to speed, and even longer to tweak it to sound just right.
