The diction of the singers... It's awful. The American R's in words like "pleasure" are awful. Even if you're singing in English, R's like that ruin technique by sending the tongue to the back of the throat. At least when people sing the German version, they tend to focus on the diction enough that the technique is better.
I have a professional recording of it in German and while I agree it has a special quality in its native language; at least with this performance the audience is able to understand the lyrics and follow the storyline.
funny thing..when you hear this in a european languge..it is so "classic and mysterious" .. not being able to understand a word; but in English it becomes down to earth ... that aristocrats seem to enjoy the same superficial trivialities that we do..hehhee!!

Horrible translation!!! There is a much funnier, easier to sing translation out there. Oh well, can't have it all, I guess.
