It IS correct, actually. To take a liberty is an English expression that means infringing on another's rights/privacy. A gentleman would ask if he could have te liberty of calling on a lady, for example. Nowagays, it's use is mainly colloquial and restricted to people who are rude or pushy - they take liberties they've not been granted.

A libertine is an ol-fashioned term for a rotter - a man who drank, gambled and ruined women.

That's NOT what Nan's saying.

@woodselpen "Libertine" was used usually to describe a person lacking in morals, *especially* men but not *exclusively* men. Nan would have to say "fancy taking such liberties" (or something to that effect) as you have pointed out with the phrase "to take a liberty"/"taking liberties", instead of just "liberty". Would make more sense if Nan was describing the person as a libertine with the way she's muttering it - "what a libertine" much like how we might go "what an ass".
