  • Remake these games George, not the movies.

  • god i wasted so much time playing this game when i was young. No wonder i got such shitty grades.

  • I still play this game nowadays. DosBox is an amazing thing :)

  • man i miss this game

  • Epaulets?!

  • Notice how the Emperor's voice changes when he talks at the award ceremony vs. his conversation with vader about endor

  • At 5:55, I knew it, it's pronounce Corus*cant not Corus*aunt.

  • @my80splaylist Actually the c is silent - 'Coruscant (pronounced /'kɔɹəsɑnt/)'.

  • @dwch1986 So Thrawn mispronounces Coruscant?

    Ackbar 1

    Thrawn 0

  • Muahaha! Thus is the fate of enemies of the Empire!

  • Ahh, this brings back memories. This was one of the best games out there in its day.

  • Man LucasArts during the early to mid 90s brought us some of the best games ever.

  • .....THRAWN!!!

  • i think this game is classic

  • Hopefully when they do make the next space simulator game like this they will stick with the same type of gameplay and not make it like battlefield.. I still have some faith in Lucas Arts, a new installment of a game like this could be epic indeed.

  • I finished this game and did all the secret missions for the emperor as well. Ooh i remember those long evennings i spent on this, i loved it!

  • I haven't played that game before, but I know already that TIE Fighter is a great game. Finally someone showed what Imperial truly were - They weren't all bad, Rebellion was. They are terrorist in my opinion.

I have a question. Can I play this on Win 7? And, is there a possibility to play it without a joystick?

  • Wow, this brings back memories. How many people commenting are in their late 20's early 30's?

  • Seriously, if theres a SW-Game that NEEDS a Remake, it is "Tie Fighter". I mean, c'mon, the very concept of flying for the Empire is just so full of EPIC WIN.

  • Der geilste Evergreen den Lucus Arts je gemacht hat!

...ich glaube da ist noch eine Mission zu fliegen, mein TIE Jagdbomber erwartet mich...HELL YEAH!

  • Best Game Ever!!!!!!!!!! Weiß jemand wo man an das Spiel wieder kommt????

  • @donjewski82 Kauf es dir auf Ebay und spiel es mit Dosbox oder VirtualBox. Funktioniert beides prächtig.

  • iMuse was awesome I miss it

  • 5 people are Z-95 Headhunter pilots.

  • Cora-Skaunt.

  • you know, as much as I really, really REALLY love this game, to the point of going to extreme lengths to play the original on a modern PC, we really won't see LucasArts produce something like this again. We all love it, clearly... but according to the vote bar we are only 323 people. We only see FPS' from the big studios because they are guaranteed sellers for a VERY high budget medium.

  • I always liked how TIE Fighter was dark and mature compared to the light heartedness of X-Wing. That game was a bit silly at time, in my opinion.

  • @Buccura Rescuing prisoners from the Empire is light-hearted? Retrieving hijacked X-Wings? Or taking on the Death Star itself?

  • @darthbandon10 Light hearted perhaps isn't the best word to use. Maybe more, comic book like? Honestly I'm not sure how to really describe it.

I admit though I have not played through X-Wing in a long time, and maybe I am just biased to TIE Fighter. Not to mention most of my time spent playing was when I was a little kid so that could be effecting how I remember it, and even view it today.

  • @Buccura Well, TF is better in the story department and has a more powerful flight engine\more craft, but X-Wing was what started the series. You have to give it some credit for that. Plus with the expansions you've got the B-Wing and a crapton of missions.

  • @darthbandon10 - The way I see it, X-wings' campaigns are a bit more "epic" (stopping Operation "Strike Fear", destroying the Death Star, making your way to Hoth) and you often have the feeling that the fate of the entire galaxy hangs in the balance, whereas in TF you get a few great battles and a lot more "routine" tasks (e.g. escort, patrol, inspection, police/customs work, etc.) at least in the first 6 battles.

Of course, this is a more realistic depiction of military life.

  • @AlexeiVoronin

After all they have taken a lot of lore from Timothy Zahn's trilogy where the Imperials are described like professional guys, not complete monsters and we have a magnificent bastard like Grand Admiral Thrawn, a mix between Sherlock Holmes and General Rommel; anyway we see that Rebels are only a relative minor problem compared to traitors and high level conspirators, Especially after saving the Emperor the Rebels disappear as adversaries, too weak compared to Empire starfighters

  • Outpost D-34 FTW!

  • I remember playing either this or X-wing when I was REALLY little(like, 1997-1998, I'm 19 now) and I loved it. These new games, while fun, just don't have the same "oomph" that these games did. I miss 'em. <3

  • The five people that didn't like this video never played the game because they were BORN in the 90s.

  • Was that really Lightening in Space 8.40?

  • Those TIE Advanceds are TIE Avengers

  • @JPDCRap that's because you're some snotty little brat kid who was shitting his diapers when this game was new. go fuck yourself kid.

  • @JPDCRap dude it looks like shit now because it came out a decade ago

i remember when this came out it was incredible! cutting edge technology!

it's content, voice acting, and storyline are still the best of any game ive ever played

  • Sooo many memories, thank you!

  • What's "Sienar" mean, on that box that the tie fighter comes out of?

  • @Wodey25 Sienar fleet systems is the manufacturer of the "tie fighter"

  • I miss these types of games. Star Wars has become too Jedi/Sith and Force oriented nowadays.

  • @nepomusik precisely why you see everyone begging Lucasarts for republic Commando 2 and BF3...screw jedi lol

  • @lifevest1

Oh I'm not just talking about games, other Star Wars material like novels and comics fall under the same rut of them being too Jedi oriented. Ironically, if the book or comic is about a Sith, it's a lot more liked.

  • "Hahaha. Once again we have evaded Thrawn's grasp. I knew I would be able to beat that... AHHHHHHH!" *BOOM*

    LOL, EPIC FAIL!

  • 9:51 obama's reaction to being told bin laden had been killed

  • Hahahah Darth didn't even give Harkoff the chance to answer!

  • I have a Core i7 930, two GTX480's in SLi and I'm still sitting in front of a Pentium D 3.0GHz with 2GB ram and Windows XP playing Tie Fighter, X-Wing, X-Wing VS Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. A remake maybe on the way because LucasArts said stay tuned for an remake announcement

  • @Mercenaries123 Where did you get this news??

  • @willd3rbeast He apparently read it in 2009 when they said it, or reads old news and doesn't look at the date.

  • @Mercenaries123 Uh...that was in 2009, you know that, right? Lucas is only going to crank out more Clone Wars crap like the Kinect trainwreck.

  • Why the hell is there no game about admiral Thrawn? That magnificent bastard deserves his own game.

  • @ragestreet

The badassitude of Thrawn is too much for game developers to handle.

  • @ragestreet Technically Tie Fighter WAS his own game as it covers pretty much Thrawns entire career from vice admiral running standard operations to how he rises in the ranks and eventually becomes the one to inherit the empire after the Emperor is killed. :)

  • Did anyone ever get all the secret mission objectives? What happened if got them all for every single mission? Surely you were rewarded somehow?

  • Why is there lightning in space? @ 9 minutes in

  • Dont worry. Tell Tale Games will make a Tie Fighter cartoonish simulator-arcade for Wii shortly.

  • Lucasart's golden age, now Lucasarts is just a shadow of its former self

  • You know which starfighter isn't receiving any love here? The TIE Bomber. That was the only vessel I could ever kill a Mon Calamari Cruiser with. It was basically a TIE Fighter riding a truckload of warheads, and even though it wasn't so hot against other starfighters, it was the weapon of choice against capital ships. Just ion-sap the rear turbolaser turrets, fly up the Cruiser's tailpipe and hope the X-Wings can't stop you before you can shove four space bombs up the Cruiser's ass. BLAM!

  • Admiral Zaarin has 5 YouTube accounts.

Seriously. Who could possibly Dislike this game? It was on the bleeding cutting edge of software technology back around '94 and '95, and it remains one of the most enjoyable, most solid Star Wars games ever made! TIE Fighter made the Galactic Empire a living, three-dimensional government instead of a bunch of shallow, evil Black Hats.

Must be those damned 13-year-olds thinking that any game made before 2004 automatically sucks. Idiots. >:-|

  • Um. Aren't these X-Wing cutscenes? I remember Tie Figher cutscenes VERY differently....

  • @HagSIN Nevermind. My bad. I should've watched further. My bad, HughJazz69!!!

  • played the hell out of this game as a kid and would sorely love to see it remade- even though im not a PC gamer

  • Tie Fighter remade for modern platforms please.

Every Star Wars space shooter since TIE Fighter and X-wing have been made of aids and fail.

  • "Thus is the fate of enemies of the Empire." 9:51

  • Dear LucasArts,

Please stop making half-baked Star Wars games with tie-ins to a prequel trilogy we'd rather forget. Get Lawrence Holland and Edward Kilham back in the stable and start making more games like this. If you can't manage that, at least remake the series with modern graphics (and don't use canned Red Book audio like the Win95 version).

Hell, we'd be happy if just Tie Fighter got the star treatment. It would be a best seller, I guarantee it.

    Sincerely,

    Every gamer from the 90s

  • @Neverhoodian well said! missed the good old times...

  • @Neverhoodian Hell yes! Youre right, and I´m not even a real gamer from the 90s^^, but the last good SW game was KoToR for me. I´d really like to see some games like Rebellion, X-wing and Tie Fighter, maybe as a game which takes place 25 ABY with the Yuuzahn Vong, or again Thrawn as an enemy. But not Star Wars TCW Republic Heroes! xD

  • @Neverhoodian You don't speak for me, dude :p

  • @Neverhoodian what you said 100%

  • @Neverhoodian Hear, hear!

  • @Neverhoodian Couldn't say it better myself... And couldn't agree more!

  • @Neverhoodian Couldn't agree more. Would love to fight the Zaarin Insurrection again under Admiral Thrawn!

  • All hail the Galactic Empire, may the Emperor's peace shine everlastingly!

  • I effing loved the TIE defender.

  • @OmarAlQaseer You and me both. A-Wings used to rape me constantly whenever I flew a TIE Interceptor or an Assault Gunboat. Even the TIE Advanced had trouble with them. But once I got my TIE Defender, it was all "Rarrrgh, tractor beam! Gotcha NOW, bitch! KABOOM!"

I never unlocked the Missile Boat, though. From what I hear, Missile Boats give TIE Defenders a good run for the money.

  • @BloodyBay Missile boats were essentially a ship where you had at least 40 advanced missiles on a normal situation, and whatever other warhead set you asked for as well. It also was the only starfighter with afterburners in space (in the Star Wars EU) and it was as fast as an A-Wing without said afterburners (although not nearly as maneuverable). The best capital ship killer in the continuity barring the eclipse and sovereign class super star destroyers and the death star. Pure Awesome.

  • @Orumon27 Damn. Sounds like I really missed out, then. How many space bombs could a Missile Boat carry? Those and the heavy rockets were great for tearing capital ships in half, as long as you weren't too far away from your target.

  • @BloodyBay 10 space bombs or 20 heavy rockets. My favourite tactic was to engage SLAMs (those afterburners I mentioned) and blind fire a pair of the bombs. This means they were released at roughly the same speed of advanced missiles, leaving cap ships with almost no defence against them. Killed everything short of Star destroyers and Interdictors. Not so useful on starfighters, but I used them for different things. the solitary laser got reduced to a shield battery while I flew the Missile boat.

  • @Orumon27 I think you mean "dumb fire"; blind firing's a whole different animal. ;)

Yeah, that was the trick to using space bombs: you want to pick up some speed and get close enough to launch your bombs, but not TOO close to where the cap ship's turbolasers rock your TIE Bomber out of the cosmos. Just launch and turn around when you hit the right range. It sounds like the Missile Boat was more forgiving here; just divert everything to your front shields and barrel at it like Donkey Kong.

  • @BloodyBay I always found that when you're close to a capital ship you were safest (as in literally skimming along the surface, shaving off it's turbolasers).

A favourite tactic of mine (in a bog standard TIE fighter) was to winnow my way though the laser fire (not hard with experience) and then scour the ship of laser weapons. Didn't work on anything with missile launchers and it's insane when enemy fighters are around. Plus it's amusing leaving them utterly impotent afterwards.

  • @BloodyBay : My favorite thing to do was to do disable ships with my ion cannons, fly up to them and then fire missiles. A little sadistic, but video games allow that.

  • @OmarAlQaseer Well, the Empire gave you ion cannons for a reason, so you might as well use them to eat up your target's shields, sap their engine and weapons and reduce them to a sitting duck. Ion cannons ruled the roost when it came to those "Capture an enemy vessel" missions. Especially if you were flying an Interceptor or a Defender. Oh God, the staggering barrages of ion cannon blasts.... >:)

  • 3:02 - Vader proves once more why he's one of the biggest, baddest SOBs in the history of everything.

Woah. First time I see Thrawn in action. He really is awesome. Thanks for the video.

  • Awesome voice acting for Vader at 8:28

  • Sounds like Maurice LaMarche at 7:15.

  • I just love it when all the cut scenes hit 10 mins exactly... just nice for youtube's limit for common users. =) Missed those days dearly =( especially when the T/As are kicking my ass in my Assault gunboat =(

  • Haha wtf happened to the Emperor's voice at 8:47 ?

  • Awesome game. Took my teenage years by storm.

  • The best game ever. Period.

  • I want this game remake fully operational within the hour.

  • @willd3rbeast remaking it technically is one thing - we'll need the right ppl to recreate the missions as well. on top of that it's really just going to be a fanware... =P

  • @thrawn80

Grand admiral thrawn would get it done.

  • Thrawn: Ima make you my bitch Zaarin.

  • why the FUCK did i ever throw away my 486 comp!

  • Back before Vader was a whiny emo bitch.

  • I just completed Force Unleashed II in half a day as soon as I got it this morning, It took me a year and a bit to complete this game back in the day!

Modern games especially modern Star Wars games aside from multiplayer options are a joke!

Imagine if we could have an update of this with a massive multiplayer option of us all flying around in Ties and X Wings! Would be the the best game ever made.

  • @Cuss100 it's already done. it was called x-winh vs tie-fighter. you can play this online. and the second one is x-wing alliance.

  • it already wuz the best game ever made

it would just reclaim itz throne

  • Admiral Thrawn pronounces Coruscant wrong, like Corus-cant.......

  • AWESOME!!! Thx 4 the upload!!!! ;)

  • best star wars game ever!

  • I want this installation fully operational within the hour.

  • Which is the absolute latest game of this type/style? (does not necesarilly have to be Star Wars).

It's been so long since I played computer games that I still consider these grafics quite good.

  • @MrSatanica FreeSpace 2 is the best of the genre.

  • @GeneralBattuta Thank you.

  • Admiral Thrawn sounds like a pothead.

  • 5:33 Aaaah yes.. That's the stuff. Finest Starfighter in the Empire.

  • i really wish someone would remake this game with dx11 graphics and multiplayer mode! would be so cool!

  • Still love it this is the SW I grew up to I HOPE they bring some kind of new SW space sim back its been since XWA I think

  • 2:59 those screams are a pure laff, back in 99 that campaign took me half a year to beat, don't remember why though

  • if they remade this game id be very upset.

  • The only thing I would be worried about a remake is it being stuffed up. Keep the existing structure of the game just needs a graphics and sound update no need to change the story. Games like this are the only reason I have an old PC with XP on it.

  • @Mercenaries123 As long as they keep the tracks. Would love to hear the classic TIE Figther tracks with a orchestra - and not with genereric Star Wars music as in XvT

  • I remember buying this game and playing it back in 1995...this game rocked..it was the shit back in the day.

  • Easily one of the best games ever made.

  • I love this game alot than X-wing. At Battle Eight Scene Omar System with Grand Admiral Zaarin is Awesome Imperial Navy Traitor he is.

  • people say i look like grand admiral thrawn without the blue skin

  • 8:48 not even the emperor could have forseen teddy bears w weapons

  • @itsaguinness

Or Vader grabbing him from behind and throwing him into a shaft.......

  • All these years later and now seeing some of these cutscenes for the first time hadnet seen 7:01 and on

  • Can you somehow run Tie Fighter collector's edition on windows xp on a laptop without a joystick?

  • If you download the dos tie fighter and run it on dos box it will work. otherwise you need a joystick

  • Yes, you can. You need a joystick emulator (PPJoy) and a program called GlovePIE with a script. You can play every joystick game with this with a mouse! :)

  • Vader is such a brute compared to Thrawn

  • @richie8811 thrawn is amazing

  • why wont lucasarts make a tv series about the galactic civil war

  • "Koru-scant"?

    XD

  • This was before they had settled on the pronounciation, Coruscant was an EU location until Lucas brought it into Episode 1...which debuted 5 years after TIE Fighter was released.

  • Those Z-95 Headhunters were so pathetic.

  • This was the dopest space sim ever.

  • Oh, so many good memories. I watched the very last cutscene over and over again when I first played this. I must have been, what, 9 years old? I thought it was so cool.

Damnit Lucas, stop making shitty prequel games and give us an updated X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (like someone else said, with the single-player campaigns from X-Wing and TIE Fighter included).

  • one of the best games of all time imo. Loved the ways some of the mission objectives from your senior officer comflicted with the emperors.

  • Man, it's been 9 years since I played this game; I miss fighting for the glorious Empire!

  • I think the hardest part (with no cheats) is when Harkov betrays you and sends hordes of fighters against you while you're in a Tie Interceptor.

It was also cool when Zaarin gave this Tie Fighters/Bombers/Interceptors with shields.

  • How did the Empire lose with the amazing capabilities of the Tie Advanced, Tie Defender, and Missle Boat?

  • The production of these awesome fighters was discontinued because the big three were expensive.

This ignores the fact that a Tie advanced is still cheaper than most rebel starfighters and it's generally better.

  • @Orumon27 Amen to that. I really liked the TIE Advanced. The day I singlehandedly killed a Frigate with a TIE Advanced, I knew I had a winner in my hands. A-Wings are still a handful, but X-Wings and B-Wings just can't cope with a TIE Advanced. >:)

  • @BloodyBay It's amazing how expensive life support systems are on starfighters.

  • @Orumon27 ...and it's amazing how many times I returned from death after my unshielded, non-life-support-capable TIE craft's ejection system failed and I burned in the cockpit. Those Imperial pilots have some suicidal levels of determination...that or a profound psychotic detachment.

No wonder they had the Rebels terrified. Put one of those insane TIE Fighter pilots inside a superior ship like the TIE Defender, and you'll give Luke Skywalker himself nightmares. >:)

  • @BloodyBay Or they simply uploaded the saved memories into clone bodies.

  • @someguyZERO

    Missile. With an 'i'.

  • @someguyZERO All I can figure is that the Rebel Alliance only had to deal with the Galactic Empire, but the Empire not only had to deal with the Rebels, but they had to deal with every two-bit pirate across the galaxy, as well as civil wars among various Imperial planets AND turncoats like Harkov and Zaarin. The Empire had to spread themselves pretty thin to deal with every threat to the Empire, giving the Rebels a shot at victory.

    It's a theory, anyway.

  • WHY HASNT ANYONE REMADE THIS GAME YET

  • Because Lucas will only approve more boring Clone Wars stuff.

  • Yeah, his best work was the Original Trilogy and its associated side franchises.

But now, he is in love with the Prequels and their shiny new CGI effects.

  • They tried... it didn't work out. It's because they replaced the original music with an 'upgraded' version that was basically the original star wars music... which doesn't work for Tie fighter... partially because that old midi

  • i now know why vader never gets any information from his interogations he kills them before they can tell him anything lol

  • 5:21 Anyone realised that the word Sienar is in English instead of Aurebesh?

  • 1:43 Why is Vice Admiral Thrawn wearing a Grand Admiral's Uniform?

  • lol who knows probably due to the same reason that Thrawn says Courscant wrong. I love this game, but I'm so glad voice acting has gotten better over the years.

  • You have to remember that there was a debate about how Coruscant was pronounced before Episode I came out. George put it to rest, and decided on a soft "C".

  • duuude i loved to play that game! awesome!!

  • "We have a matter to discuss"

  • "Now you will pay for your treachery!"

but... you didn't even get an answer out of him! lol

  • probalby cause he didnt tell vader....Vader gives u a chance to speak wether u do or not is up to you(and apparently the dark lord aswell)

  • Loved TIE Fighter. Great game, could play that game for hours on end even today.

  • Rebel scum

  • Lucas could make some cool star wars movies with the storyilne in tie fighter alone, that is if lucas had half a brain...

  • What a great game this was. The only thing to complain about were the voices, but it was acceptional to have them, at the time, so it wouldn't matter, back then.

  • @BrokenDash4

actually, I thought Thrawn's voice in the ending cut scene where he chuckles was epic :P "Thus is the fate of enemies of the Empire!" :D So epic and so Thrawn.

  • Harkov was such scum

  • The Cargo Ferry is not that small compared to the Star Destroyer in the game

  • Coru Scant. :D

  • God I miss this game...They need to redo all these games for vista. They re-did The Secert of Monkey Island. They need to redo-Full Throttle, X-wing, Tie-Fighter, the Dig and a lot more.
