  • @kingnat2 I don't think it's pure capitalism to get paid for your work, wether you like it or not recording, writing or performing music is hard work just as baking bread or something. The Punks didn't invent this world we're all born into and money is the only way to survive in this world. Sad but true.

  • @felmagalhaes

Do you know why everybody is hating on punk and specially the Sex Pistols?

Because you are all AFRAID of what they stand for. Because they despised evrything you stand for. If you find it offensive that they are linked to Situationism, you kind of missed the point. Situationism isn't a religious cult, and punk isn't too. Both of them are not indefeasible. Both Movements wanted to destroy doctrines and taboos. They certainly didn't want to be a sacrilege.

  • @thaincrediblemaier yea but SP are basically pure Capitalism. They weren't even that fucking good.

  • what's up with the swastikas at 2:28???????

    fuck that

  • blah blah blah bored with all this punk is you just be you

  • @MrSexpistols1 That is what punk was originally about. Being yourself. True punk was already dead by the time the bollocks album was out and the pistols actually took the piss out of everyone copying them and all ending up looking the same because it was about individuality.

  • Funny that the man says, "Anarchy in the UK, The Sex Pistols first record, maybe their greatest record". He should know that it was the ONLY record The Sex Pistols released (as a band; of course their were compilations and live albums for the $). That's why I always take critics with a grain of salt.

  • @fedal15 haha thats exactly what i was going to say! he was acting like he knew the band so well, yet he didnt even know they only had one album. fucking schmuck.

  • @fedal15 Um, the only album the Sex Pistols released as a band was Never Mind The Bullocks. He said "record" - Anarchy in the US was released as a single, as was God Save The Queen and a couple others. He clearly was referring to the single here, of which they released a few, and not album, as there is no album called "Anarchy in the UK"...

Before you call out someone for not knowing what they are talking about, it is usually a good idea to know what you are talking about when doing so.

  • My favorite Sex Pistols quote: Paul Cook, in an interview, speaking of the Sex Pistols' method of collaborative songwriting in his inimitable working class hooligan accent:

"First we get kind of an idea, and then we literally beat each other up and -- by the end of the night -- we've got a song."

  • Oh my ass.

Gallery art in the US is basically an upper class twit affair. In a final irony, the Situationist style is completely co-opted.

  • @Diosibundo

Disestablishment art made within the culture is always ironically for sale.

  • @Diosibundo As will all movements against the establishment. In the case of the sex pistols. They weren't only co-opted they became what they were originally fighting against punk/pop is disposable the pistols limped on for years and became part of the established order thus becoming the old guard. All such movements are totally futile anD hypocritical because they KNOW THAT IN THE END THEY WLL BECOME PART OF THE MONSTER NO MATTER WHAT THEY START OFF SAYING. Just look at the Icelandic Best Party

  • these videos are awesome, they are really great back studying for my architectural theory class.

  • wow! very nice and informative, thank you for sharing!

  • This exhibition was the first time I'd seen SI work. I was in college at the time.

  • Malcom McLaren. What a crass bastard.

  • this was done by the ICA in Boston. Fuck yeah I feel proud

  • anglophone rubbish! it´s so pretentious to link the sex pistols to all this in such a linear manner, it may have had the aesthetic influence but the way they´ve let themselves become a commodity on its own (through mclaren himself!) condemns them (name of the 90s tour: filthy lucre!).

documentarists should´ve tried to explore the dialogue with lefebvre and their rupture with the theorist later on, reveals a lot more about the movement...

  • becoming a comodiiity can be very punk rock- depending on the situaition.

  • how?

  • Maybe true, but you can't judge their actions at the time and place it alongside what they did afterwards. While they may have simply become a product, at the time they were an important noise. It's more pretentious to criticise past movements with the hindsight the artists didn't have at the time.

  • what rupture happened between them and lefebvre? (if a brief explanation of it is possible) :)

  • @felmagalhaes I would have to disagree. The filmmaker clearly shows how the SI ideas meandered to the UK a few years after the SI dissolved in 1972 and found subtle expression via bored art students who made artwork for the band. It is intellectually clear in terms of the story of the film and the evolution/spread of SI ideas.

  • @jeffreyhsykes It was only Jamie Reid who made the artwork for the Pistols. He actually had a working relationship with them for about 2 or 3 years.

  • @OrpheusIsThe1 Thanks for that information.

  • @jeffreyhsykes Yea cheers cool man

  • Good history lesson on something most know nothing about. It's a shame Vaneigem wasn't mentioned.

  • thanks for putting this up

  • HA HA! Oops, wrong video. Anyways, this was a cool video too! Thanks for posting.

  • Wow. Awesome video... Is it just 'cause of hindsight, or do these "lessons learnt" about tactics (e.g. using arty, air support, tanks and infantry)seem rather obvious? Why did it take them so long to learn how to fight a modern war of synchronized tactics?

  • thanks for the video!
