This is average, meaning that your 180-207kg is not correct. Panthera Tigris Altaica or Siberian tiger lenght is 3.8-4.5m long and average weight is 350kg and there are documented weights of over 400kg. So really get some better info.

The narrator is only speaking from history when he says that a Tiger can kill a full grown bear. An 800 pound Tiger is a pretty good match to a 1,000 pound bear. Thats a fight both animals would try to avoid.

@TimeStrider As far as I know the inland Brown Bear (living in the same habitat as Tigers) is called Ussuri Brown Bears and small compared to the coastal Kamchatka Bears (Kamchatka is similar to Kodiaks and very large) and rarely weigh over 300 kg because the access of food is not that good. This is inland Siberia (most Sibs in Sikhote Alin). I know of cases of Kodiaks around a ton +, and if its correct that Kamchatka is similar in size and weight they will also reach that weight.

Why does EVERYBODY, including documentaries blow smoke up the tigers ass? Yesterday I was this very same footage of this tiger on the beach with the crows on the Wild Russia documentary and they said THAT tiger was 800 lbs. No way was that tiger 800 lbs. Weights for this species are extremely exaggerated. Theyw eren't even regarded as much bigger than Bengals until Soviet hunters in the 1930s stretched the skins and extremely overexxaggerated the weights. Most weights were merely guesstimates. Modern studies show that very few Siberian Tigers reach these huge weights. They are closer in weight to Bengals. and the largest, according to Mel Sunquist in Wild cats of the World was a Male at the Prague Zoo weighing 260 KG.

I doubt it. If Tigers were twice the size of Lions, they would be terrible hunters, slow with little stamina. Basically a Bear without the ability to consume plant and vegetable matter. What is this Genetic degradation theory? I've never heard of it before, but it does interest me.
It is plausible that a smaller number of individuals creates a lower possibility for the larger males and females and that the lower food abundance also stunts growth and health.. But could the weights given by poachers and hunters be considered accurate is my biggest worry. The largest reliable weight case of an older Siberian Tiger kill was 650 pounds. That I can find plausible. But the 700-900 pound range still nags at me. It seems too high and inefficient for a lone cat to hunt effectively.
What source did you get that from? Since the Siberian Tiger tests began in the earky 90s they had yet to capture a full adult male, and the largest Tiger they caught was 485 pounds. 780 pounds is still too big for effective hunting for a Tiger. That's as big as the average Grizzly(Not Kodiak Brown) Bear.

@TimeStrider As far as I know the inland Brown Bear (living in the same habitat as Tigers) is called Ussuri Brown Bears and small compared to the coastal Kamchatka Bears (Kamchatka is similar to Kodiaks and very large) and rarely weigh over 300 kg because the access of food is not that good. This is inland Siberia (most Sibs in Sikhote Alin). I know of cases of Kodiaks around a ton +, and if its correct that Kamchatka is similar in size and weight they will also reach that weight.

@swordfish1986 You are wrong. A Tiger will most likely loose a head to head fight with a Brown Bear at the same size. Brown Bears are poor hunters but MUCH stronger fighters. And take a look at statistics. Tigers will only attack Brown Bears much smaller than themselves. Most killed are cubs, and then a few small females less then 110 kg (mostly while hibernating). The largest Bear documented killed was a 170 kg youngster female killed while hibernating.

Why does EVERYBODY, including documentaries blow smoke up the tigers ass? Yesterday I was this very same footage of this tiger on the beach with the crows on the Wild Russia documentary and they said THAT tiger was 800 lbs. No way was that tiger 800 lbs. I've NEVER seen a siberian tiger that was no more the 600 lbs to be honest.

Weights for this species are extremely exaggerated. Theyw eren't even regarded as much bigger than Bengals until Soviet hunters in the 1930s stretched the skins and extremely overexxaggerated the weights. Most weights were merely guesstimates. Modern studies show that very few Siberian Tigers reach these huge weights. They are closer in weight to Bengals. and the largest, according to Mel Sunquist in Wild cats of the World was a Male at the Prague Zoo weighing 260 KG.

It's fair to say Siberians would've at least averaged around 300 kilos prior to humans bringing their population down to 50 individuals.

In the 1950's there were only 50 Siberian Tigers in the wild, and this led to a lot of inbreeding which results in a reduction of growth.
Another theory is that the biggest Siberians were the ones that were poached, therefore passing on the weaker genes to the next generation.
Their habitat has also shrunk, and they no longer have the abundance of prey they once enjoyed.
Cant fit any more into one comment, but those are the most plausible, no?

It is plausible that a smaller number of individuals creates a lower possibility for the larger males and females and that the lower food abundance also stunts growth and health.. But could the weights given by poachers and hunters be considered accurate is my biggest worry. The largest reliable weight case of an older Siberian Tiger kill was 650 pounds. That I can find plausible. But the 700-900 pound range still nags at me. It seems too high and inefficient for a lone cat to hunt effectively.

What source did you get that from? Since the Siberian Tiger tests began in the earky 90s they had yet to capture a full adult male, and the largest Tiger they caught was 485 pounds. 780 pounds is still too big for effective hunting for a Tiger. That's as big as the average Grizzly(Not Kodiak Brown) Bear.
