  • I don't think I can relate to people who are not madly in love with Beirut. Their music makes my heart and soul jump and smile with every note.

  • WILL SHEFF! :D

  • what a sick set of drums!!

  • I didn't think I could love this song more than I already did.

  • nantes is my favorite song of all time. if i had walked in on this show i would have passed out

  • That voice is powerful. Oh man. Définitivement un des meilleurs groupes musicales du monde! x

  • "I'll gamble away my fright." Hehe, their lyrics are excellent.

  • God. This is amazing.

  • Youtube. Uniting the narrow-minded masses since 2005. A sanctuary where they can come and spew grammatical errors, ignorance, and pretension. Youtube should make one pass a quick IQ test before someone can comment. OH!!! I almost forgot, Beirut is awesome!

  • 5:30 on sounds like battles wall street song

  • @andrewmaddennn No one east of the Atlantic is that deep.

  • America is a country where creativity is frowned at. It's too bad.

  • @8000cheese America is a continent.

  • @8000cheese Really? If you're waiting for the radio to enlighten you, you're looking in the wrong place.

  • @derekknielsen never said i was

  • @8000cheese He said, 'if' - not that you are. And I would love to see what you have to say that supports your endearing statement that America frowns upon creativity. (I type this with about as much sarcasm as the late Kim Jong-Il's porn collection can be measured)

  • @1104zion why are we being so serious about this. Im just saying that we could never have good popular music like Beirut

  • He reminds me a bit of Jim Sturgess.

  • These take away shows are amazing, and they have like all my favourite bands! <3

  • el mundo está uniformado con esos basureros

  • OH MY GUD! NEED MOAR BEIRUT!!!

  • @mpbwcde he has a little microphone clipped on his sweater.

  • An American band named after a Lebanese city, performing in France.

  • comment ne pas aimer ???

  • i like the typography used. and that the accordion is more prominent in this version.

  • OMG I CAN'T WATCH TAKE AWAY SHOWES !!

  • Dear God, please let this happen in my driveway with Beirut...

    Thanks,

    James

  • @Noimnotthatguy

Ti rispondo in italiano, anche se la mia risposta è più una simil richiesta a Dio. Se "Dio" ti dice di si, fagli fare un giro anche dalle mie parti! :)

  • i love how he laughs throughout the song. i can really see how happy it makes him to be making music

  • I should pay 1 million dollars to be there!

  • If I saw him walking down the street singing I would jump on him and give him a BIG KISS!

Then I would probably try to convince him not to call the police...

  • @OxylOnpani It depends on your gender and the way you look like...

  • r.i.p justin bieber ;(

  • @SunnyShine43

I thought he was from New Mexico

  • Caliver would love to do A Take Away but we need your help! visit calivermusic.bandcamp.com and enjoy our lovely acoustic music and help us achieve our goal of having our music heard and appreciated!! Hopefully we can tour with one of our biggest influences Zach Condon and Beirut!

  • grizzly bear did it first

  • I wish Americans appreciated music enough for something like this to happen on the west side of the Atlantic.

  • @andrewmaddennn alot of us americans appreciate music.. its just sad that so many of the "new" generation have no clue what real music is, and "musicians" (if you can call them that) like justin beiber and kesha aren't helping.

  • @andrewmaddennn I'm not trying to be a douche or anything, but I'm giving a serious response to this. There are plenty of Americans who indeed appreciate music, including myself. Instead of posting something demeaning to Americans, just enjoy the music like the videos were meant for. Thank you.

  • @Heartburnhurtsbad I am an American. Bright Eyes... That is my argument. They are from Nebraska; however, they are much more popular in Europe (even though Rolling Stone claimed Conor Oberst was the best songwriter in 2008. The culture of America doesn't push musicianship... It pushes club beats. Sorry not sorry bro.

  • @andrewmaddennn I wish you wouldn't label the American people like that. I get what you're saying, but you worded it poorly. Right now I resent your statement because you're implying that Americans listen to bad music (should have written "I wish ENOUGH Americans..."). Stop acting so superior. Many adore this beautiful man's music and crooning voice.

Think about what you're posting next time. You're infuriating many by sounding like you're belittling us.

I hope you understand what I'm saying.

  • @doomster345 I meant you're implying that ALL Americans listen to bad music.

  • @doomster345 I didn't mean to imply "all." I very rarely use absolutes when I write anything. So whenever I write things and leave out absolutes, other people assume I meant to include them, which is not normally the case. I wasn't trying to include the people in America who watch this video (myself, many of my friends, you). I was aiming it towards the 20 million viewers of Baby by Justin Bieber. It has NOTHING minority of people in America who listen to indie folk.

  • @andrewmaddennn Zach Condon is from Santa Fe. This kind of music is appreciated in America more than you think.

  • @tyreal1234 I'm not saying it's not... I'm just implying that America AS A WHOLE does not appreciate music. When was the last time you looked with objectivity and said "you know that Katy Perry really is the best female artist out there right now"? You probably haven't... That's what I'm getting at. Katy Perry isn't an artist by any means. She's a performer. She doesn't create her own music, she sings over what is created for her. That's why I say America doesn't appreciate the art of music.

  • @andrewmaddennn europe is overrun with terrible pop music just like america is; it's not some magical fairyland. bands like beirut are rare anywhere.

  • @andrewmaddennn He's from New Mexico...

  • @mkwitzke This was filmed in Paris. I was talking about take away shows in general, not the musicians.

  • Comment removed

  • @andrewmaddennn I don't think anyone would object to something like this in America.

  • @andrewmaddennn i agree... however it is important to note that he is from new mexico.

  • @andrewmaddennn Some Americans do just look at Austin, you will find it there. Look up the Minor Mishap Marching Band, just yesterday they started playing inside a supermarket then took to the street

  • @andrewmaddennn It does happen, more often than you think.

  • it's on the street oberkampf in paris 75011 yep

  • what kind of asshole would dislike this song!

  • This is so cool. I wish I walked by while they were playing, sounds so damn good

  • words can't even describe how amazing this is...

  • IS THAT FUCKING WILL SHEFF AT 2:05????

  • @Antics79 Yes.

You can see his name in the end.

  • Cool. Get that dude a yukalaylee or other tiny string instrument.

  • Beautiful son!

  • Oh my god i have never heardthis band before but i think im in love. He is SOOOOOO cute <3

  • How can someone seriously not know what an accordion is?

  • zach kinda looks like paul mccartney. nevertheless, equally talented in my opinion

  • is the first "bayum bum bum ...." a song ?

  • @24061992 Yeah, it's Nantes :P listen closely between the verse and the chorus!

  • @24061992 Its part of this song.

  • @24061992

The first "bayum bum bum ...." at the beginning is what the lady plays with her horn, if you pay attention...

  • dang he can really project!!

  • So, can I be Mrs. Condon and hang out with these rad people for the rest of my life?

  • zach take me away

  • Whats the name of the instrument at 0:43 ??? Any idea people

  • @janusmallick It's an accordion. It's pretty popular, as far as I know, for folk music at least here in Europe.

  • @fabedavid

    thanx dude

  • @janusmallick accordian ! its huge here In Ireland

  • Pure

  • 47 crotchety shop owners wagged their fingers when they played this

  • As always, fineness and so intense!

  • we call it the "bateau shoes" in France ! it is originally made to be worn on a boat but alot of people just wear it like casual shoes in France

  • 3 chords and people go crazy. not much more original than lady gaga

  • @Wesh67300 Listen to the original song, and I defy you to tell me that lady gaga has ever, EVER done anything with a tiny fraction of the musicality, purity or emotion. Lady gaga is mainstream trash; this is art!

  • I'm going to be there in two days! Paris, here I come!!!

  • I wish America respected music enough for this to be possible around here...

  • @andrewmadden777 Just go to Boston. Play some street music. I'll throw money in your hat :D

  • @andrewmadden777 Beirut is from California D:

  • @andrewmadden777 in what way is this not possible in the US?

  • @andrewmadden777 Some areas are respectful of the arts, it all depends on the city. Something of this sort would be welcomed in Flagstaff, AZ. A fantastic city full of arts!

  • @napalmocean I actually visited Flagstaff last summer. I liked it a lot. I also went to Tempe. It felt like this could happen there, assuming the heat doesn't make people melt or take their guitars way out of tune. I just wish I lived remotely close to a place that did appreciate the arts. Sometimes Arkansas really sucks.

  • @andrewmadden777 oh shut up, I'm sorry if you live in a bumfuck isolated pocket of the U.S., but plenty of Americans appreciate and produce good music. Get out of your hole

  • @sheerblonde823 Justin Vernon is from "bumfuck isolated pocked of the U.S." I understand that a lot of Americans appreciate music, but those who do are far outnumbered by those who don't. Why else would you not hear songs like Calgary on the radio. Because music like this doesn't make people sway. Why else would Bruno Mars or Ke$ha sell as many records as they do. People don't care about texture, songwriting, etc. They care about beat. That's it. Later.

  • @andrewmadden777 oh go fuck yourself this nigga is american and no one cared about him til pitchfork posted about him and the US is just as key to his success as anywhere...and if u cant find good music bein played where you are you prob live in greenwood arkansas

  • He plays with an iFish at the end xD. Thats so funny.

  • anyone know what type of shoes zack is wearing? haha

  • @whenthemusicsover1 He's wearing boat shoes :D

  • @OhhYvette thank you, sorry about the misspelling, im going to get those haha, theyre navy blue right?

  • @whenthemusicsover1 ....and its Zach

  • Man, this is great!

  • True Love!!

  • 2:05 Why the hell is Will Sheff playing?! I love okkervil river... but why is he in france with beirut?!

  • After watching this video the only thing that's crossing my mind or rather violating my mind is 'Zach, merry me' ..

Anyway, I won't even try to express with words how much i love and appreciate their music. I just do.

  • BYE AYE YUMP BUM, BYE AYE YUMP BUM

  • Such a beautiful and tragic song; yet it fills me with happiness that someone could capture exactly how i feel.

  • what are the shoes hes wearing 2m30

  • @jimORmE it seems a basic timberland shoe...

  • it was an instant subscribe after fleet foxes and this!!!

  • This is the new Spring-Summer theme song for me!

  • Personally, I think there should only be a like button, not a dislike button. Why bring the negativity to something? We should only look at the positive. Besides, when it comes to music we should appreciate the fact that they are out there doing something they love and bringing joy to others. That is what life and love is about.

  • @ExpectResistance66 @fbmandy55 Don't forget about Tiny Desk Concerts

  • What song is he singing at the end?
