  • my childhood here. It could've been MUCH MUCH worse!!

  • Then there is there sheer level of detail and variation LucasArts included. Recon, air superiority, bombing runs, base defense, supply raids, and escort duty missions all feature in the Story Campaign. You fly 7 different ship types for Story missions, and can use dozens more in the Simulator. AND THEN there are dozens more unique ship types you'll find flying for the Rebels, Empire, pirates, smugglers, and merchants. You really and truly feel like a part of a diverse galaxy.

    Bravo LucasArts.

  • This game is so deep and complicated (in a good way!) As a pilot you would have to balance power for shields, weapons, and engines, use scanners, call in reinforcements, and direct your wingmen either individually or as a group. The 'Starfighter' and 'Battlefront' series have fun space combat, but it's nowhere near as involved.

  • @Nofarewell i think it works on windows 7/vista but i am not sure i would like to know also

  • Does this run on Windows 7? Definitely one of the best (if not) Star Wars game, as for flight sims, it is hands down the best ever.

  • Let me just say:

    X-Wing Alliance>The Force Unleashed.

  • just bought a new computer and was heartbroken when i found out i couldnt run this game on it.

    I'm going to cry :'(

  • Awesome game!!!

  • I remember being totally blown away when I first saw this... and then the second time... and third...

  • What ship is that that looks like a millenium falcon?

  • @vauxellx YT1300 Corellian transport. Apparently the Falcon started off as one before extensive modification.

  • @darthbandon10 Oh ok cool, thanks for that mate really wanted to know!

  • @vauxellx another Corellian freighter variant... check it out at - starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YT_series ... this is YT-2000 ... the Millenium Falcon originally is a YT-1300, heavily modified of course :P

  • Is there an mp3 of this music? It's absolutely brilliant. Tears me up every time I hear it.

  • @RTacular Try downloading "The Force Theme"

  • Personally, I prefer Tie-Fighter for its story etc, but Alliance was the best game of the series. I really enjoyed the custom battles and amazing gfx.

  • whats the name of the music after 5:26 when the droid is talking to you and u can select the mission.

  • i have it so fun to play i love it

  • One of the greatest games ever. I think i've finished it like 3 or 4 times. I'm sad this type of games is forgotten

  • I wish I could find a way to play this game, they should definitely re-release or make it available for download.

  • I am surprised the Xwing games have not been updated and rereleased. Of course you would have to be evil as that seems to be all the George Lucas writes these days.

  • i was going to buy this game until the seller tell me it dosnt exist anymore :( I WAS SO ANGRY! I WANT THIS ROCKING GAME :(

  • Such a great game

  • Fantasztikus muzsika!

  • EPIC GAME IS EPIC.

  • They should continue the tiefighter/x-wing series. Best games ever.

  • That intro had so much more personality, story and emotion that the entire prequel trilogy... XWA was a fantastic game! Cheers to the old LucasArts, back in the day when they were involved with quality titles!

  • @Vruk88

Oh wow, haha, can't say I can argue with that too much.

It really is engaging. Some of this DOES remind me of DS9 like someone mentioned, family and space stations and such you know. Cool types of stuff.

I wonder if there's some good book series involving families living in space in this sort of stuff.

  • @Usul573 Try the X-wing series of books. Not a family, but it follows Rogue and Wraith Squadrons during the campaigns to capture Coruscant and to take down Warlord Zsinj. It's one of the better written series of Star Wars books, probably even better written than the movies (that's not hard to do, though).

  • @dixievfd55 I think EVERY book written in the star wars universe is better written then the prequel! Seriously I monkey randomly typing on a keyboard could write better stuff then the crap Lucus has "created." However, I do agree that hte X-Wing series are VERY well written and have a kind of 90's book feel that is hard to come by these days.

  • @ronnor001 I agree. The worse thing they did was allow George Lucas to write three more Star Wars movies. What makes the Xwing books so good is that they have the feel of a real fighter squadron...or rather squadrons. Don't forget the Wraiths. Timothy Zahn's books are also well written.

  • @dixievfd55 Agreed! In fact i feel kind of bad for the writers of the star wars novels AFTER the prequals came out because they had to deal with all the crap Lucas came up with in his movies. I will never understand why Lucas didn't hire an actual writer for his movies! Did he think he was better qualified then someone who went majored in writing?! Look at this opening for example! Better writen then the entire prequal series and it was only 5 minutes long! Grrr...wtf Lucas!

  • @ronnor001 This is mostly because George Lucas had nothing to do with the writing for the games and so the creative talent at LucasArts were allowed to play within the Star Wars universe. You also see better writing in the Dark Forces games and in the one movie he did hire writers for The Empire Strikes Back.

  • @dixievfd55

    KOTOR pwns the prequels.

  • @The8thDOCTOR:

I think the main reason why LucasArts is focusing on MMO's of late is the fact that MMO's are very popular at the moment. If people didn't want to play an online game (which is rather strange as you need constantly pay a fee to play those games), then I think that LA would again focused on singleplayer games.

I did hear that Totally Games is preparing a remake for X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, is all hope may not be lost....

    We will see.

    Lets wait and see.

  • @brongers457 well make a "multiplayer-online-flight-sim" (MOFS/MOFOS) then....lol

  • @brongers457 well they better make a "massive multiplayer flight sim" then....(MOFOS)....lol

  • I wish Lawrence Holland and Lucas Arts would get together again and do an update to this, and other GREAT X-WING games.

  • I totaly agree!! Or even another space flight sim in the SW Universe would be even better.

  • @brongers457

Yeah, Back then i spent hours immersed in the Star Wars flight sim universe.

Holland and Lucas Arts had a nice partnership.

Unfortunately today, Lucas Arts Star Wars gaming is focused on Knights of the old Republic MMO, so any future Star Wars SPACE combat will likely have a £8 per month bill with it :(

  • The end of an era. Rest in peace, classic Lucasarts.

Maybe one day they'll decide to stop milking the Clone Wars, the popularity of SW will begin to ebb once more, the casuals will leave, demand will drop, and LA will be forced to get its act together.

That's not to say there haven't been good SW games since then, but most (KOTOR, Battlefront, JO, ect.) were developed by other companies and just published by LA. The last big in-house game was TFU, which was very mediocre for all the hype.

  • I agree with you a hundred percent. They are milking the clone wars too much and then they haven't come out with any decent games to back it up. I mean Is a Star Fighter simulator for clone ships too much to ask for? I know Battlefront does all that but that is mostly a ground combat game with some elements of space combat. I mean come out with a new Rogue Squadron or better yet Wraith Squadron. I mean I can see the Force Unleashed as a step forward but that is just one small step.

  • A Wraith Squadron game would involve a lot of ground combat. Still, if Allston wrote the dialogue it just might be the funniest thing ever.

  • God this game was great I remember having my own squadron "Low Flight Squadon" ah but that was the good ole days

  • I wish that LA and TG would team up again we got great games form them like X-wing vs TIE fighter and secret weapons over normandy.

  • Such a great game, a true classic up there with Kotor.

  • such, such a good game. one of the classics that has that amazing characteristic - every time someone mentions it, someone else will reinstall it =)

  • what is the millenium falcom? what is the origin ?

  • its a yt-1300 i think. and that space station and the credits remind me of DS9.

  • XW:A was an awesome game. Fond memories of it. Was a huge star wars nut as a kid, and it's quite sad to realise that we're unlikely to see a SW game of this calibre again (Certainly for this genre).

If they did a new one, it'd have to be released on 360/PS3 etc. and that would probably mean it getting dumbed down (No managing shields, power, probably automated hyperspace etc.) :\

But would honestly love a new one with todays tech. Could actually do Endor with 20+ capital ships on either side.

  • Wasn't that how Rogue Squadron II and III on the Gamecube were like (dumbed down)? But yeah, it's a shame that a new X-wing game hasn't been released in 10 years, especially if it has nothing to do with copyright, liscensing, or other legal stuff. It would inject new life into SW gaming (especially for the PC), and hell, if they wanted to, they could also draw material from the Prequel Trilogy.

Too bad it's just only a dream.

  • Actually LA already did that with Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter. But I have to agree that a new SW game other than from the Clone Wars Era would be a good idea.

  • It had one of the best storylines of all SW-Games.

A pity that they never made a second one or even a bonus disc.

  • this game lags cos i cant control anything!

  • At the risk of getting annihilated I have to say that I preferred the flight model in XvT. Man, I had so many great hours playing that game on the old microsoft IGZ.

Still, this intro is almost worth the price of the game alone. Absolutely top-notch.

    Good times indeed.

  • Capital ships were more vulnerable (both yours and the enemy), and you didn't get full control movements in all 3 planes of motion...

  • Truly one of the best Star Wars games EVER made. I had this game for 5 years, set up my own Space Kingdom, and never got bored. GO TIE DEFENDERS! Best Star fighters in the galaxy!

  • damn I miss this awesome game! where have all the "good old times" gone?

  • Nothing stopping you from playing this game, or doing a LAN game of it

  • @londerium I agree. The good old days. They just don't make sort of stuff now.

  • @londerium Not as much TLC is put into game design these days.

  • @londerium You can still play it, I do every once in a while on my Vista 32 and no problem whatsoever.

  • it kinda look like the star trek deep sopace 9 intro

  • this was the best space starwars game, I wish they would make another one :(

  • If they made another like this, with beefed up graphics storyline and physics engine...man I'd play all day.

  • Argh I wish Nvidia and ATi would both support legacy games like this. Had to use a fan made hack to get this running properly on my 3870.

Thanks to Reimar of XWAUP for allowing me to play this again

  • F-22s are BETTER!!!!!

  • People wonder why I say I don't like the Rogue Squadron games, because of these Star Wars games(xwing, Tie fighter, xwing vs tie fighter, Xwing alliance) , which blow them out of the water. They're not as fast sure but they've got a lot more to them. I remember playing X-wing when I was a kid.

  • GREAT

Reminds me of the old good times, unfortunatly LucasArts it's not planning another X-Wing series game... :(

  • by the way, does anyone know the name of the song that plays during the YT-1300's Takeoff after Otana leaves Twin Sun?ak

  • Seconded. Brilliant bit of John Williams right there

  • now if only we could find the name of the bit :\

  • XWA was released long before Episode 1-3 so I'd say the OT is probably a good place to start looking.

  • true that is a good place, but it might be a seperate track made specially for the game @-@,

  • Comment removed

  • This one wasn't though. Its from the ROTJ special edition double disc soundtrack.

Luke and Leia's music. Big thanks to my mates over on gamefaqs for the info

  • ah thats good, never head the ROTJ DD, i have the VHS(wow, i know right) XD

  • I've got the VHS's as well. I meant the soundtrack to the ROTJ SE though, can probably find the download for it somewhere on the net

  • Ah yes, and so it is. That's what I was looking for. Thanks!

  • @dragon5521 seriously thats bugging me too i heard that also in the phantom menace game in one the canatinas on tattoine but i could never find that music or song anywhere :(

  • i got mine to run on XP i think, you can try running compatability settings on it

  • niiiice

  • I've seen all of the SW movies and I know what music to listen to. So trust me when I say that you should rewatch Empire Strikes Back's ending where the Falcon leaves the medical frigate.

  • See the ending of Empire Strikes Back again, and listen to the music.

  • Personally I thought TIE Fighter was far superior to Alliance. XWA had a great engine but it lacked creative and the story and characters fell short. I detested Ace and his family (especially that stupid droid) and the characters don't stand up to X-Wing's Keyan Farlander and especially TIE Fighter's Maarek Stele.

  • Heh, while I agree the story was weaker than X-Wing and TIE Fighter, I don't think it was that bad. A trigger happy droid was used again in KOTOR and people loved the concept there...

  • I think we need more post Endor SW games. There's only so many events you can squeeze in the prequel and classic trilogys. Or is Lucasarts afraid to give us more games during the Thrawn era or even the ressurected Palpatine? Or even the Yuuzhan Vong War and the 2nd Galactic Civil War (come on Lucasarts! Think of the ship and planet and character possibilities from those eras!)

  • LucasArts has been going downhill since 1999, you can't except anything better than above average anymore. Although I would love to see certain EU events played out in a well made game.

Although they better not go any further than the Vong invasion everything after that (except Allston's work) was unimpressive to utterly unbearable... coughDarkNestcoughRevelationcoughcough

  • @Significantpower well i mean the jedi knight series was not that bad.

  • I remember having to install the original x-wing game with floppys and enter it through DOS... haha. This game felt so ahead of it's time. Thanks for posting this... it really took me back!

  • This vid takes me back. I love Star Wars games, and this one was my favorite. I wish Lucas Arts would make another game like it for next generation systems.

  • Best Star Wars games ever IMHO :)

The music that begins at 4:15 is my favorite from the Star Wars universe - does anyone know what film it is taken from?

    Thanks for the vid!

  • I agree. I've been thinking of going ahead and write a fanfic version of this game.

  • The music at 4:15 is the ending music to ESB before the credits start rolling.

  • It's "Luke and Leia" from ROTJ. It's what made this intro so awesome ...

  • I'am just installed the game...it works...but i don't have joystick...Damn!!!!!!!!!!

There isn't have any way to avoid this problem?...

  • Fork out $25 and get a joystick? Otherwise, why didn't you read the game requirements?

  • I don't believe so but you really, really need to have a decent joystick to be able the game fully, even if you could bypass the problem.

  • truly a sad thing that the good old sim-days are over (!) god, i loved the x-wing game series and stuff like freespace/freelancer etc. >> i want that genre back again ;-)

  • i've already played this game on a vista system. it worked, but i would love to see a remake of it!

  • the 2nd best star wars game after battlefront II.

  • I absolutely love this game for all the reasons you've all said!

I didn't realize that so many other people felt the same way about this game as I do!

  • One of my favorite games.

  • this intro is one of my all time faves in the star wars games :)

hope that if they do remake this they keep the introduction the same and use the same voices :)

what i loved about this game was that you felt you almost living the life

the script for this was really good :)

there isnt that many star wars games that have a really good script and that this game didnt drag you through the whole luke leia etc story line lol

  • I still play. The best game ever. A-wing Gold 2, reporting in!

  • My fav game ever, had it for my really old Win98 machine. I can't play it on my new vista PC or my XP machine. Anyone know how to make it play?

  • Install the game, right click the xwingalliance.exe select properties, click on the Compatibility tab.

On the Compatibility tab, make sure the "Run this program in compatibility mode" check box is selected, and that Windows 98 is selected in the drop down box.

Hopefully that should do the trick.

If not, try to patch the game.

    Hope it works out :)

  • can i emulate a joystick with my keyboard to play the game? i was searching but i only find joystick to keyboard emulators help please my joystick is broken and i need to play!! xD

  • i actually always prefared Otana to the falcon...

    *is shot*

  • hell yeah! otana was a very original corellian ship... everyone likes that stupid falcon which cant even move... OTANA FTW

  • Nothing wrong with that. To be honest I'm kinda hoping they would make the Otana a canon ship.

  • I really hope there will be a remake for this game.

  • I love this Game too.

I have it and I Play online with it. It's awesome :)

  • I love this Game too.

I have it and I Play online with it. It's awesome :)

  • I love this game and I still have it!!!

  • this game was friggen epic :D i loved this game....

  • this game needed a sequal, too much unresolved family business

    wtf happened to uncle antan?

  • Yeah, they still haven't answered that question. However, there are some fanmade missions that you can download and one of them is made specifically to bring Antan to justice.

  • The game was rushed by Lucasarts because of Episode I, so TG never had a chance to finish the family storyline (or fully remove bugs)...

  • And you know this because...?

  • Well, the release date of the game was a big clue ;-) as were reviews and gaming news sites..

  • Oh.

  • do i have to use joystick? it gives an error message for me of joystick not detected please help!

  • Yes, you only can play it with a joystick :) Due the control things, you know... :)

  • I haven't played a better Star Wars game than this one. I really enjoyed the story and the action. So original and yet so well integrated into de Star Wars universe.

  • I have a demo of this game. It only has one mission though. It's the one where you liberate the warheads from the veraxo and take it to the rebels. I like it.

  • i know the music in the backgorund at the end of this movie its the catina music in background for episode 1 the game on the tatoine bars.......

  • Quake 2

  • ahh yes great memories except for the part when u have to do the rebel mission when u have to deliver the cargo thingy in a crappy y-wing u it would die every time but otherwise this game was the pwnage

  • SWEEEEEEET!!!!!

dude, I've like, NEVER actually watched that intro. We got the game, like 4 years ago, but our krapppy computer wouldn't run the disk, so I've only been able to play since last winter. It's AWESOME though!!!!!

(I'm on disk 2 and just past the Rebel Recruit missions)

  • Best game ever

  • this game was very very cool

  • Listen that musik, amazing

  • This brings back so many memories... *sniff*

  • Great game!

  • also where and how do i get upgrades for this game?

  • xwaupgrade[dot]com it has all the upgraded sounds, skins, you name it!

  • i love this game.... i never got past the mission where ur sister sabotages one of the satellites cuz for some reason its very difficult to hit those tiny annoying stortroopers that fly after u... they r too damn small

  • mission 4? ... ya, I hated that one for the longest time ... then I got better at the game and just did it. idk how.

  • I was a kid when i played it, never did good, i sucked.

  • You can get a lot of Upgrades now for this game and additional missions, its totally awesome...

  • where do you get additional missions?

  • theforce[dot]net/videogames/mods/xwa[dot]asp

  • This game is STILL awesome!

  • Absolutely best Lucasarts game ever, especially for its time. The only that sucked about it was that there was never a sequal. Damn you Lucasarts!

If they made a sequal so that you could fly missions for the new republic, that would have been bad ass.

  • Best game LA has ever made by far...superb game.

  • EL mejor solo el mejor intro de todos con 3d de verdad

  • This was an awesome game. Best game Lucas Arts has ever put out. Man that says something about it cause this game is at least 6 years old. LUCAS ARTS, NEW SPACE FIGHTER SIMS PLEASE

  • never played it, it needed a damn joystick, but I think the game is pretty cool.

  • This was the best game EVER. I love the music in your room, I used to spend extra time there inbetween missions. Lucas arts needs to come out with another game like this, but more open ended (Galaxies doesn't count because it costs money to play everymonth).

  • I played this a lot back in the day. Best game ever. :)

  • what program did you use? I've tried using fraps in-game, but really hits the fps making it extremely hard to frap it, i'm guessing frapping the cut-scenes doesn't impact it much.

  • Best game ever! WinXP Pro sucks 'cause it doesn't wanna install it :'(
