@brotherjohn25 you asked this a year ago so i'm guessing you got the answer, but in case you didn't; mary hopkins sang it first. paul mccartney produced the english version & had it translated into 4 languages including this one afterward.
@brotherjohn25 It is an old Russian song, which is probably originally a Gypsy song. Search for "Дорогой длинною" here - there are tons of clips. And the French version is not a translation, the words are totally different.
The song is upbeat however I feel sad when I hear this. I don't know why.
