  • Actaully the fully-extended flaps were the key that the plane had made it to the runway. Flaps cause lift and drag, when the pilot realized that the plane would hit the road and buildings before runway, he decided to extended all plaps to let the plane float more for about a few seconds, just to make the plane to the grass.

  • for all people who like to know what has happened: Ice blocked the fuel lines just before landing. Landed without engine thrust, pilot managed to make it to the grass.

  • once people surive you cud say pilots do a fantastic job

  • you dont need the slides to evacuate when the plane is that low, lol

  • it was because the fuel-oil heat exchanger of each engine were obstructed by ice

  • a dual engine failure at heathrow airport on takeoff is something we better pray never happens. imagine if the engines both failede after lift off. thats would be bad news for ur day.

  • how bad has it got where you have to pray that the next video you click on dosent have 009 sound system as the backing music or a rick roll?

  • they were very fortunate on this one. This could of been catastrophic. what puzzles me about this if this was a fault on rr engines then why did other rr engines not suffer the same problem before? fortunatly they didn't. Maybe also the fuel in this aircraft was not upto the same high standards of western fuel. we better prey this doesn't happen again.

  • @210482fmj All the RR engines were susceptible to the same fault/danger but it would only become an issue under very confined circumstances. There was a documentary about the crash on tv a few nights ago, it showed a similar incident with a Delta Airways 777 around a year after this, though on that occasion the engines recovered.

  • i was on that exact plane about 5 years ago :|

  • the engains stopped working im 13 evan i know :P

  • @georgesmith23 due to ice build up in the fuel pipes, blocking the flow of jet fuel to the engines.

  • @pu33yassassin: All I wish is that they'd bring up their adverts to the standard of Virgin Airways! [Wolf whistle]

  • So what was the cause? I haven't heard anything since then...

Also I hear nothing about precise crash cause of Fedex MD11 on Narita Tokyo intel national.

  • ALot of airlines seem very broke at the moment. you get the feeling just by the onboard service they are very short on money. THe onboard meal service seems to be made very skimpy and delayed and the flight attendents purphousely perform a slow service to wastwe as much time as possible to save money on some airlines. some of the onboard service on some airlines is real dogshit

  • This Is Why They Stop Flying The 777 British Airways

  • @Ilovegogosable

They stopped for a few days but still have plenty of 777's in their fleet.

  • @philosofiza Oh Ok

  • it would be cool if they had like a small pool at the end of the slides

  • @cocolocochris Yeah like a slip'in slide. Haha. I always think that too sometimes.

  • i was at london airport and when i came it was 8 hours when this thing landed and the british airway guy told me no one got hurt except one guy broke his leg so can someone tell me if thats a good thing or bad

  • ki porra kkz

  • go on to: watch?v=qPfJU1SK430 for good landing tutorials!

Btw, thanks for the video :)

  • India plane crash 160 dead... I hate when that happens. I travel a lot with planes . that sucks ☼

  • i've seen the left-over of the aircraft. it was located near the runway. not very encouraging view before you fly. quite horrifying really. :S

  • I can't believe the pilot as sacked by BA even though he managed to bring the aircraft down safe as possible and saved all on board. Shame on BA!!!!

  • @matt01656 The pilot wasn't actually sacked, he took voluntary redundancy and has now rejoined BA as a 777 captain. He applied for jobs with other airlines but they wouldn't accept him because "he had an accident", regardless of the fact that he saved all his passengers with his actions. British Airways has now taken him back.

  • @matt01656 he decided to leave due to the attention

  • @airplanes66 he has now rejoined ba as of 2011

  • "the undercarriage has collapsed & the engine is on the ground, that is why you're seeing the engine on the ground at the moment." nah, really? you think so? :|

  • OMG can't this guy just shut up. I have eyes... i can see the engine is not there duuuuuuh...

  • this plane ran out of gas, period!!

  • @pinoynyc28 Idiot - research before you comment - it was actually caused by icing in the fuel system

  • Why is the guy just stating (or should i say shouting) the obvious?

  • apparently he saved the day by dropping the flaps to gain height on approach.

But should the flaps have been lowered anyway on approach?

  • @cjellwood yes, but sometimes they do not lower them all the way, and they lower them in stages. What the pilots did here was lower them compleatly before they normally would have.

This made it gain hight and slowed the plane down at the same time.

  • would it not have been more wise to lift the nose?

  • @cjellwood well yes they probably did this as well, I don't know. However lifting the nose would also slow the speed right down and the plane would stall if the nose is pointing upwards but there is no thrust

  • british pilots are trueley remarkable and the best in the world.yes i am posh and yes i am proud to be british.full stop

  • This is why the american's hate the british they're posh but not the county's.

  • why the hell do americans always think of British people s posh WERE NOT POSH not all of us live in london for god sake.americans are just thick!

  • Amen to that!

  • there have been rumours of people messing with aircraft fuel to cause accidents. there are some very evil bastards out there. We must impose stricter security on areas that go unchecked and areas that most people wouldn't understand could be sabotaged like fuel plants and fuel workers. Fuel can be easily contaminated by a scumbag who nows what he's doing. they can mix stuff with it that corrods fuel lines e.t.c.

  • aircraft fuel can easily be contaminated, and can shut down the engines in mid flight. you got quite a good point there, they shoul pay more attention to those who work on the airport as well as the passengers .

  • still cant believe people from what ive heard, (not commenting on this vid), think that the B777 is unsafe aircraft. The problem had to do with the engines, not the plane itself. At least most of it stayed intact. I think an airbus would just break up and burst into flames

  • WATCH THOMAS GILLION ON YOUTUBE

  • And to think that all the sun could write about was the fact that the captain was a bit of a shagger in his youth!

Fucking british tabliods the man and his crew saved the plane and passangers.

And buy saving the plane i mean it did not go up in smoke.

  • omg, always the boieng planes dat crashes..

  • i still cant believe that that plane completed 99.999% of its flight, and on the last miles ALL Engines fail. At the same time in final. Just really hard to believe..

  • Well Done BA's Pilots (Y)

  • To really simplify this for the sake of character space. Leaning towards ice crystals in the fuel which would become obvious at idle thrust. Also the 777 with the GE engines may also be experiencing a significant internal engine problem however, British Airways uses Rolls Royce Engines.

For those nervous about flying the 777 it is still an extremely Safe aircraft..You stand a greater chance of being raped and sodomized, in the ass by a gang of outlaw goats then getting injured in a 777...

  • mate, BA uses both GE and RR on there 777's

  • Thanks,,I did not know that. I always thought all BA used was RR's. Thanks for the info...

  • I lough with you comment, well said, you are soo right. Flying is the best and safest way to travel and the 777, is such a great aircraft.

  • That is not a risk youtube troll's should be willing to take...as the chance of being sodomized by a parent or loved one for those people is particularly high in most cases.

  • its a real shock when its done at the busiest airport of the world

  • ambubhai, Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world.

  • Your full of shit who ever is commentating

  • please don't put your ppl up the pilot suck

  • this guy doin the report sounds like abit of a know it all, talkin about the plane havin flaps full, obviously in a double engine failure u wudnt hav flaps full cz u want as much momentum as possible, and the flaps only like about 15º max

  • Yes but the engine problems began about 2 miles from touchdown - and 2 miles before touchdown the aircraft would have been fully configured to land. (ie:full flaps)

  • lol, i like how YOU then turn around and act like YOU know what youre talking about. the airplane's engines failed SECONDS before touchdown if you read the description. is that ample time to retract flaps to 15?

  • The description is wrong suffered engine problems 2 miles away at 600ft

  • its richard quest

he is a popular tv reporter in the world

he travel all over the world and learn new stuffs

  • one of the best poilts....good job.

  • Well they cant suck becuase they have over a quauter of all the passangers of the world.....

  • damn i have a flight with them 4 days from now

  • Calm down, this was a year ago!!

  • well be reassured cos BA have one of the best safety records in the business...this accident could have turned out FAR worse...

  • In spanish: Aun no se tienen las razones oficiales de por que los motores no respondieron a tiempo al pedido de los pilotos de mas potencia...

  • wats the reg??

  • Is the a British Airways Boeing 777 ?

  • yes

  • ITs not ignorant. Security at heathow is lacking and the danger is when the people who are the bad guys become in charge in higher positions of power. THats how pro terrorists work by gaining high positions of employment so they can disrupt the security network.

  • IT is imminent we seek out the evil scumbags that are working in the aviation maintainence industry. THere are some very sick people with bad intention. I personally believe security is too slack in maintainence hangars

  • i agree with u 100 percent

  • Dont be so ignorant about the security at aircraft hangars! What makes you think that someone could cause damage that would only kick-in during the approach? This was an accident and fortunately no-one was seriusly hurt, very much doubt it will happen again. p.s. do you watch the news? Rolls Royce have admitted to fuel icing in the engines and are working on a soloution. Dont try and blame the people who keep these planes in the air. Remember - Planes go places that we were never meant to be.

  • The Pilots and Cabin Crew are the heros. There not just good for Safety but also getting yu back home if your stranded in the far east !

  • threshold*

  • oh yeah it was snowing that day

  • what a wanker lol

  • American built toughness100 to 200 yards short of before runway and they lived!

  • So basically if your airliner has "Airways" in the name, you shouldn't even bother boarding the plane.

  • Do u like cathay pacific???

  • Ehh, British Airways are one of the safest airliners around D:

  • when was this???

  • there are almost 1 year that it happened on 17 January 2008

  • "i don't know if the plane went into the grass after it landed" YEAH THAT'S IT!! He went into the grass after he landed on the runway and then went back to the runway like "it's ok, i did it correclty!" Dude that plane is magic...

  • actually it's written "asshole" you know, and it describes people like you ;)

  • This is their first crash!had two or three major incidents which their planes landed safely after!probally the safest major airline around, whichever your opinion about BA,safety wise they are great!

  • Actually QANTAS is safer than BA... they have yet to have a crash, but this is just my personal opinion.

  • I never mentioned Qantas!I never made the comparison nor suggested otherwise,I never asked either....

  • What the fuck do you know.... NOthing by that comment

  • I WISH I WAS ON THAT FLIGHT!

  • Really?...

  • haha

  • I would actually. So I can go down with my favorite bird.

  • Why?

  • what a real shame, such a awesome expensive piece of machinery gone to the scrap yard.must be a 40 million pound plane, wasted due to silly, none heated fuel pipes, hope the passengers were ok.

  • lol, BA is a very professional airline with a highly trained crew. This crash is a rarity

  • @xmassey Very rare! It was also a 777 which has an outstanding safety record.

  • wowzee wtf are you fucking talking about my sister is a b.a air hostess and im in training you have no idea about anything you are talking about BA is very safe the planes are maintained highly !!

  • wowwy sick.... I LUV BA

  • conspiracy theories point the blame to Prime Minister Gordon Browns car that was at the airport at the time. They suggest the car thought the plane was a missile and sent a jamming signal out which stopped all of the aircrafts controls from working, causing it to stop responding. Interesting theory but wouldn't that have affected other planes especially since the problems started about 2 miles away from the runway!?!?

  • shut your stupid voice up you silly bastard

  • couldnt have said it better myself

  • B.A is one of the most efficiently maintained airlines in the world. They have have some of the most experienced and qualified engineers and the best pilots in the world. Their food is getting worse but technically they are pretty good. Their cabin crew are very professional and know how to be polite - a rarity these days it seems.

  • BA is one of the safest airlines in Europe. You don't understand what your talking about.

  • What you just said is bollocks.

  • try and speak english or learn how to articulate moron

  • sorry didnt realise you were gay i do apologize just saw your youtube profile

  • I wouldn't say anything if I didn't have anything intelligent to say.

  • It was first crash of B-777.

  • did tht come from barbados?

  • it was on a flight from Beijing, China

  • hethrow is a good airport ive ben there i went to see a green day concert in brostol :)

  • wowzzee grow up and stop being a pathetic asshole. Your the weak of society by thinking these people should have died and thinking that you're better than other people. Planes aren't shit. They're odviously better than you life so far since you think this way.

  • Actually, BA has a well maintained and modernised fleet and well trained cabin crew

  • its a good job they landed on the grass as that dampened alot of the impact. HAd they of touched down on the ashphalt there would of been more injuries. ANd for all those people who say the plane didnt touch down on the grass just look at the marking the plane left on the grass. I bet the people who performed maintainence on this plane are to blame

  • whats the airport code?

  • lhr

  • thanx

  • no prob

  • But in Aviation it`s EGLL.

  • Ok thx alot

  • No problem.

  • foam all over the shop gd job

  • i was at and airport when this happened

  • A theory for this accident was that when the 777 flew over gordon browns car, the systems in his car which prevent bombs from being detonated nearby, caused the 777 computers to go heywire and prevent the engines from throttling up when the engines needed the power to reach the runway.....

  • BA does have problems with baggage and customer service, but the pilots are TOP QUALITY and their safety record is among the best in the world. I don't think they have ever had a large crash.

  • Actually the pilots were heroes and people were lucky cause there were no fire!!!

  • pilots heros ?

not much of a hero if they cant even land a plane

  • dude, they still managed to save the people on board id save they were heros

  • This guy can really talk!

  • i was on the plane

  • you were really in this plane there must be panic when the captain said you were preparing an emergency landing

  • Yes,it`s the first B777 accident!

  • Gordon Brown's response cover up!

    /watch?v=V1rQcKAn9ok

    /watch?v=V1rQcKAn9ok

  • The British and French built concorde. Stick Virgin Atlantic up your arse! Who's the prick having a go at BA and being homophobic. Arse hole!

  • isnt this the first boeing 777 incident?

  • you don´t know much about aircrafts and airlines (like BA) you only saw this video and wrote something about BA and VA

  • Fuck-off m8 you don't know what your going on about. ba are shit get over it.

any eay how do you know i don't do any thing been all around monarch's hanger @ manchester, you think a lot of your self. good-luck in your sad life !

  • at first i don`t i know much about acft but i do. and when you work at man airport not for ba or va why do you think you know much about them

  • Sorry i don't work t man or for a airline.

Virgin Atlantic is the best sadly u don't see many at man.

  • do you work at monarch or not when yes how old are you

    your voice sounds like 13

PS: Austrian Airlines is the best

  • service on Malaysian is CLASS, and im british, i hate BA service is shit

  • I stopped flying BA about 10 years ago and switched toMalaysian airlines for my frequent flights between the two countries. The staff and service in all classes on BA are SHIT. Im english by the way so im not having a go at the country.

  • The AAIB initial report is of sufficient fuel and the engines being at REDUCED power NOT flamed out due to no fuel. This concurs with fuel deposits that leaked from the wing tanks, visible in many of the pictures. I am a pilot but not from BA (not even UK based), but I have every faith in the fuel planning of any UK airline.

  • perhaps one of the hostesses was with her back to the cockpit window and on the dash with her high heals kicking the switches on the ceiling. The pilot will have had a much reduced view and thought he could touch down, but it was too early... perhaps men can't multitask after all?

  • he even bloody thought that it had landed on the runway! the following statment is much more useful-->"yes well, what we see here is a plane, it has landed, it is a british airways, it is at heathrow, and i am a coplete nutter who knows fuck about planes!"

i bet that the cabin crew annocement was "ladies and gentalmen, we seem to of crash landed, when you have got off the aircraft, RUN LIKE FUCK!!!"

  • I hear no reports of those pilots flying again. I would have thought that this would have become public. Are they being questioned a bit longer after all?

  • thank god it was only on final approach and not on initial descent or mid flight! Kudos to the pilots.

  • If you look at the rudder it is set to the right, it looks as if the pilot has turned the aircraft to the right rather than slide onto the runway. This is a clever move as it would lower the risk fuel being ignited from sparks.

  • I don't think the pilot had any control onces the gear collapsed/sheared off.

  • who is this muppet? The gash on the wing has been caused by the landing gear strut pushing though the wing and out the top. After that the plane has slid along on the engines.pilot will still have had control of direction using the rudder

  • Mate did u hear about the air transit crash?

  • The Guardian: "Toxic cockpit fumes that bring danger to the skies. Dozens of pilots have flown while dizzy, nauseous and suffering double vision on crowded passenger flights. The cause is contaminated air and it can strike without warning - but the cases have been kept from the public" sounds like the co-pilot may have been on the curry.

  • The plane ran out of fuel, weather it be a fuel line rupture or miscalculation (human error). Windshear is not a factor. There was no fire on landing but (lots of sparks flying) - High octane fuel and sparks = explosion / fire.

Have a close look at the pilot / co - pilots and stewardesses interviews. -

The pilot is the big smile of BA...the co - pilot looks distinctly uneasy and the stewardess looks like she was slapped with a cod fish....EG - told to shut up...

  • Singapore Airlines and United have the biggest fleet of 777's and Air India just ordered 11

  • not interested in flying just because of these things

  • it is exciting to see what was happened, praying god not happen this in future.

  • nice. stupid Auto thruster!

  • Yeah, auto thrust, I have been waiting for this!

  • most people are missing the point here good actions by flight deck or not this incident shows how unsafe british airways aircrafts are! all boeing 777 under british scareways should have been grounded pending investigation rather than a media respose of commending pilots who are trained and payed to land in emergencies.

  • Are you mad??? What evidence is there to suggest BA is in anyway unsafe? Do you not think that if there was any doubt whatsoever that BA's 777 fleet was not safe that the AAIB would have grounded it whilst they carried out their investigation? The fact is no British Aiways aircraft have been involved in a fatal accident in well over 30 years! I think the crew of this flight did a great job, there is no proof or even speculation to suggest otherwise.

  • augh... i am severely TERRIFIED of flying, but have to fly a few times every year....And hearing these stories just make it worse...

  • you gotta remember though these sorta things are rare, flyings statistically the safest way of travel, you're more likely to crash in your car!

they made a big fuss about this cos it was british airways and it was at heathrow, you just gotta remember everyone's alive and well and most injuries were probably from jumping down the slides!

  • i know i know... but i guess u can't help wat ur afraid of right?? lol but thx anyways:)

  • While everyone talks of engine failure, the cabbie the plane flew over at the perimeter fence said the engines were much louder than normal. And in this design reverse thrust is applied by the computer a few feet above the ground. Perhaps the computer engaged reverse thrust while the aircraft was still airborne? Was the altimeter incorrectly calibrated so the computer thought the plane had landed when it was still at 600 feet?

  • Reverse thrust is not applied until the airswitch in the main undercarriage is depressed on landing, otherwise the possibility of an uncommanded inflight reversal exists. A thrust reverser deploying inflight is a disaster. A single reverser deployment destroyed a Lauda Air B767 in 1994. Deploying the reversers on final would have ploughed the aircraft straight into the ground with far less horizontal travel than we can see from the furrows on the ground.
