What a wonderful series this was! Megan Follows (Anne) did a wonderful job in this movie along with Jonathan Crombie (Gilbert Blythe) and Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla. :)

I read 'Anne of Avonlea' first (received it as a gift when I was about 12 yrs.). Then a few years later I actually read 'Anne of Green Gables.' Didn't see the movie until I was an adult. The first piece titled 'Anne' is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever listened to. It's sorrowful but full of hope and of dreams that are yet to be lived (very much like Anne herself).

I don't think I have ever met anyone who has not felt like a kindred spirit with Anne the little red headed girl with more heart than anyone in today's literature. I first saw the series on BBC in the 80's, fell in love with it so had to have the books & have been a huge fan of Anne's & Lucy Maud Montgomery. When she hit Gil with the slate I thought i would die of laughter on the spot, I would've done the same thing rotten boy, but he makes up for it with that cute I'm sorry Anne!

Thanks for posting :). I've been rereading the series, and having the music play in the background just makes it all the more perfect. I really do find myself transported to their world... :). What I would give to be Anne! Sometimes I feel like I was definitely born in the wrong era.

No one could have played this part as great as Megan Follows...in my mind she will always be ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. In fact the entire original cast will always be ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. The soundtrack, the music...everything is so beautiful, relaxing and wonderful. I can watch this movie time after time...it is my favorite movie of all time as nothing compares to it.

This theme brings back the golden memories from my childhood. When I was nine and ten years old, I had entered the magical world of Lucy Maud Montgomery. With wide eyes, I watched the beautiful series "Anne of Green Gables" and later "Anne of Avonlea". I read nearly the entire series by Montgomery. I laughed along with Anne Shirley, admired her adventurous spirit, and wished for my own "Green Gables". This is a seminal part of my childhood I will never forget. :))

Back in or around 1991-1992, Hagood Hardy came thru an Artist's series in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. I saw him play all his hits, as well as Anne's Theme which was my favorite. I also got him to sign my Anne of Green Gable cassette. I was saddened to hear he died later on....such a talented man!
