^^^ leemer12, BPL operators are actually required not to operate on certain freqs used by coast guard, radio astro stations, etc.
BPL is getting stronger offering 200Mbps more than Wimax (70), Wifi (54) or VDSL (50) could offer. Using preexisting infrastructure means they will be cheaper and help in broadband penetration (esp in rural areas) all around the world.
There are 8 overlapping bands between BPL freq bands and amateur radio service and the one you see on the video is one of them (40m)
hah, so it is easy for well financed organisations to eavesdrop on BPL broadbands, because they can sit nearby and catch the communication on radio; who were those individuals anyway?
**sigh** I live in the country and the only so called high speed internet I can get is 3G wireless or satellite and both are over priced. There are power lines every where and I've researched other states that use broadband over power lines and the speed is just has fast or faster then cable in some cases. I would like to be able to have broadband where I live so I can dl more files and surf faster and even do some gaming. Looks like I won't be getting any broadband any time in the near future..
Ah well, sucks. I guess the USA is locked into monopolies for broadband perpetually. The majority of the country has 1 or 2 choices for high speed internet, with insanely overpriced packages due to the monopolies. About 25% of the country has no option for broadband. And since the FCC just reclassified broadband as 4 mbs down...I bet the majority of the country doesn't have broadband.
Wireless internet like 3 and 4G is not a substitute. Slow, laggy, and extremely overpriced, with data caps.
this happened to us and we just fought with the FCC and we won it took mounths but it worked. Just keep calling them and will put an end to it. And anyway thats why they invented wireless internet.
Having first hand experience of the effect of these devices on Short Wave, AirBand & Broadband use.
I can say they do block out Shortwave radio Broadcast or Ham Radio, they also make weak Am Airband radio hard to hear & slow down the broadband internet. Having had OFCOM Govement body remove one local to me & seeing the change, I wonder why there not already banned & wonder will it take a Air to Air crash because a pilot or control not hearing traffic.
O wow they where typing you in you where typing them wow I think you need to get a hobbie man be deal on who they where inless they said something that you should have called the cops O wait they might not like you after hams can't get help when stuff goes out in you people who jump on your cell phones when stuff happens your stupid they will not work with out cell towers the ture fail safe is ham radio because all we need is two radios to talk to other poeple in we can get power all over....
As an amateur radio operator BPL is a very ineffective way of delivering Internet service. It causes interference to amateur radio which is a very important communications tool in times of emergencies. Also causes interference to public service communications. Those promoting broadband over power line are not telling you the whole truth even the FCC has been giving the amateur radio community the run around about BPL. Stop BPL now or lose amateur radio...
No one will care until it bothers them - when it corrupts their TV, cellphone, cordless, etc - they could care less about it messing with public service and amateur radio service frequencies until they call 911 and no one can contact the parmedics due to the noise - they they will get pissed enough to care like radio operators presently are. The ISPs are looking at the cheapest way to make a buck and leave cable and DSL out, they arent concerned about anything or anyone but.
you actually think the internet they provide you will allow free thinking? you have another thing coming! They will block any site they consider free thinking or against the government. This is a very bad idea. and they will sneak it in under the guise of more jobs and helping the poor. They are doing this to control what sites you visit. Do we really want government censorship and ownership of the INTERNET? wake up sheeple
wow i would be scared to film someone's lincense plate in these time and ages. Have you noticed how TV shows blur out the lincense plates? for a reason of course but anyway I hate that BPL is up there in VA like that when there is much better technologies out there like Fiber optics!!! local ulity company in my area competed against cable and DSL and won with fiber optics in there town in TN and everyone loves fiber optic internet it is super fast is what i have been told.
fine one day those power lines will become disconnected cell phone towers will not be able to operate and there will be no other communications at least for that area but since every body just had to have the fastest internet they got rid of the free and self reliant communications that are needed during those situations you want have them think of it that way "KJ4DZM" 73
Amateur Radio is much more than a 'hobby' folks. It is a crucial service during emergencies or calamities, such as during hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and even 9/11. The service has proven itself over and over again. It has been around forever, and will continue to be around, as it is a way of life for many, and more than a mere 'hobby'.
In Portugal is the same. It´s dangerous to mess up with radioamateurs and CBs: some guys are responding with mobile 4Kw CB amplifiers, destroying the system, while they drive along the streets. Some have quit talking because they say it´s much more fun the PLC hunting...!!!
The Companies using PLC and the like are complitly STUPID, and they are having Big troubles and scandles. Don´t mess with people´s hate thougts when they feal they are coned...
Ham Radio is a joke. They never saved anybody. I am a retired Land Mobil service tech. I cant tell you how many time a hamster has waked into my shop( a Motorola Corporate Service Center) to talk about his new "Whiplash 5000" or other such junk. To listen to them talk on air is torture. It's all...how do I sound?...OK how do I sound...OK ...well I guess we sound OK...blah...blah....blah.
BPL is the greater good for more people. These old farts need to give up their little Fiefdom.
@RocRem 'RocRem', you are a complete misinformed moron! And probably an investor in BPL, i'm sure. The fact is Amateur Radio operators have been saving lives via emergency communications when all other systems have failed. Including at the 9/11 site. Get your facts straight before you decide to make yourself look like an idiot.
@AudiophileTubes ...if the power is out and all other communications are down... then there won't be an internet connection to disrupt the radio frequencies. Perhaps you should think things through before you call other people a moron and idiot.
But , if the BPL degrades amateur radio operations enough there won't be any hams around when the mayhem occurs. Perhaps you need to "think things through". There are many other, more efficient means to give you access to your internet porn . RF emissions that are harmful to long term, established communications systems are inefficient and uneccessary. It is just a cheap way for corporations to make dirty money.
@elpresidente2020 You utter moron! Well DUH, yes, if there is a complete power outage there will not be any BPL interference, BUT Amateur Radio is a hobby/service that is IN USE during non-emergencies too you simple minded cretin! Please evolve...
@AudiophileTubes I know you are but what am I? You are probably one of thos old farts I was talking about. And you are a lier. Hame radio hasent save a life in years. Here's my 2 cents. I understand that we all have different hobbies. But think of it this way. A hobbie (Ham Radio Users) doesn't make money. My computer buisness struggles to make it due to the lack of broadband access. My satellite connection doesn't give me the pingtimes I need to perform remote repairs and doesn't allow me to download over 200megs in a 2 hour peroid. BPL would increase my buisness's productivity.
Its not about the MONEY,some of us guys have worked hard for this hobby, why should we give up what we enjoy so YOU can earn more money, this is the wrong way of going about it and your attitude shows the way this world is going. HAM is dead. The Dayton Hamvention (biggest amateur radio convention in the world) is in my backyard and attendence is declining year over year. Really, only knuckle draggers are using this "technology".
7 Million ham operators in the world. 3 Million of which are in Asia. Still dead? Just becuase the Dayton hamvention is declining does not mean the hobby is dead.
Just because people like you want to hole up with your little cell phone/text message thingy on your left, the remote and a beer on your right, an Xbox or whatever on the coffee table and that 2000 or so dollar HDTV permanantly on sports and video games deosn't mean the rest of us enjoy the same thing. That's what is known as being presumptuous, a knuckle dragging presumptuous twit, to be exact.
With the exception of the coffee table, cell phone and HDTV, I don't play video games nor watch sports - ever. Beer is just OK, but mainly a waste of time. I paid $60 for the 50" HDTV, repaired it myself and use a cell phone for making calls; no games, no text. Flame on, good men, flame on.
