so lets say one were to have the sx-150, korg monotron (modded for CV, which i assume is neccesary) would the sequencer work on those? im curious if anyone has tested it yet... i also wonder if i could attach knobs to those step sequencer parts so its faster to change and dont need a screw driver (and of course it may need a bigger case). im sort of a noob to building my own stuff so sorry if i come off stupid about this
@reconstructiv the knob mod is easy. take a look at my favourited videos and you'll see it's been done.
I just got a monotron last week. I've not moded it for CV control but there's much fun to be had simply be feeding the my sequencer and synth output through the monotron's filter AND you can play along on the ribbon.
Come to think of it, a much more useful, and very simple, hack would be to use the monotron LFO as the clock pulse for the sequencer and retain my synth as the sound source. That way you still get a more interesting sound generator but you can synch it up with the monotron allowing it to be the filter and also a gate trigger and a primitive substitute for envelope control.
Finally got around to putting them both together. Brilliant little machines. I've yet to find a couple of tins to put them into but i'm dead impressed. It must have been near zero degrees in the shed tonight but i couldn't leave them alone for about an hour when i fired them up. I'll get a vid up as soon as and point people in the right direction should they fancy getting hold of one. Cheers for the work you put into making these possible. Great little bits of kit...
It occurs to me it'd be good to have some kind of community for sharing modifications, help and such with these kits. What do people think would be the best method of doing this? a mailing list, one of those free online wiki things, online forums? Anyone have any suggestions?
A forum would be the best bet i guess. Anything that would allow people to put up pictures of their mods and how to guides. it worked well for the midibox sid project so would likely work out well for these.
Cheers. Got mine last week mate. I've yet to assemble it as i've been busy with fun things like going to work but with a bit of luck i'll get it running this weekend.
Could the cv output of the sequencer be used to trigger a synth like the ms20?
just curious as i have one of the crap old things sitting about gathering dust which other than the odd sample sees little use so something to animate it a bit more would be very cool........
The sequencer design is very stripped down but I've built in a lot of flexibility for modificaton and 'bending' so yes I'm sure you could trigger your synth with it. You could use either the CV or you could even plug into the jacks that define the loop size. In either case the addition of a single transistor should be all you need.
Mind you I hope folks realize you don't have to use those pcb mounted pots. If you want to put high quality chassis mounted pots on the thing it's no problem you just wire 'em to the PCB.
if i was a genius or at least if my brains were up to par.

Hello!
A forum would fine indeed, and it can have a wiki part aside to gather documentation.
I can help if you ever need webhosting. I just received mine today (thx for your speed!) and am impatient to have it built ^_^
