  • Lets get drunk !

  • fuck how many keys is that keyboard. it looks massive

  • im sure as hell not a virgin but ill get in his bed and take off my dress. wooooo

  • underwear change

  • isnt that the bass player he wrote breezy for?

  • @wmoorman91 pretty sure of it.

  • @wmoorman91 I'm pretty sure Sabrina was a harpist, but I'm not sure - it could be her.

  • @wmoorman91 that is stephanie drootin from the good life playing bass, 'breezy' was a harpist that played with Bright Eyes on a couple of tours. i love that song.

  • drunk. kid. catholic. <3

  • NO REALER SHIT HAS EVER BEEN PLAYED ON NETWORK TV

  • Just recorded a new bright eyes cover. Come check it out (Lua)!

  • so country, just need some wild turkey and a nice fire with shadows forming in the back of my living room forming the stories that come out of conor's voice. he was always good for a toast.

  • He kind of follows Bob Dylan's pattern in some way... Mind blowing shit in his early 20s-mid 20s... blah stuff in his late 20s... 30s... Not that there is anything wrong with that... but it is a funny similarity.

  • @Diablo112687

have you checked out people's key? that shit's so good.

  • WOW! Out of the countless times tinkering around on YouTube, and thinking I had seen every possible live Bright Eyes performance on here, they pull a fast one on me! I was very surprised to see that it was, in fact, this song, I even thought it may have been a misprint. Noise Floor is definitely one of my favorites, and seeing a song from it performed on national television is, for lack of better words, quite a doozy. Cheers for the upload!

  • I can't believe he is only 22 here. That's like me in not too long. I could NEVER be ready for that at this age. Then again when he was 13 he was doing more with his guitar than I've done in my life.

  • sometimes it's obvious what drugs performers are on and sometimes it's just nerves... but WHO GAVE THE DRUMMER SO MUCH COKE?

  • @JoeAWR hahahaha

  • maybe he thought it sounded too much like when the curious girl realizes she is under glass and that was on fevers and mirrors the album before lifted, although i think this is a better song.but hey what the hell do i know

  • I have the album Lifted but this song isnt on it!!!

  • @muahahaha101 It's not on the Lifted album. He didn't think it was suited for the album, but he felt it should be on the i'm wide awake album. But it never apeard there either. But its on the Noise Floor compl

  • @muahahaha101 It was on Noise Floor.

  • looks like neely on bass, is it?

  • 7 dislikes? seriously, u must be missing a chunk of ur brain to dislike this.

  • he always picks the PERFECT songs to play on tv.

they may not be his most 'popular'

but he's the best at getting a point across.

  • his singing definitely pleases me

  • @Starsxboulevards virgin?

  • God I love Conor Oberst sooooo fucking much.

  • does anyone else agree that mike mogis looks like the gay guy from little nikki ? LOL just a thought. dont hate

  • i know what I'd do if there was a virgin in my bed taking of her dress...conor's trippin

  • @ohxsea80 Hhahah! truly is trippin'

  • Season and Episode?

    Please?

  • is this only on the vinyl?

  • no, it's also on the cd version

  • it's not on Lifted. it's on Motion Sickness. in the cd liner notes it says this song hadn't been released yet when they performed it on letterman.

  • @nightgeorgiegirl It's not on Motion Sickness, It's on his Noise Floor: Rarities 1998-2005 album. Motion sickness is his live album. A very good one :D

  • @Garthi14 oh yeah! - duh! - i have both but i get 'em mixed up. great albums both!

  • "This is not who I've become, but who you've made me into"

  • Some of my favorite lyrics <3 the vinyl.

  • dave has said in subsequent interviews that this is his favorite record since 'the origin of species' as read by howard stern.

  • love how bright eyes get the honrary dave coffee pause at 0:56

    big business

  • this song has the best lyrics ever

  • i dig the lyrics too, i really enjoy the lyrics on lets not shit ourselves to love or to be loved

  • By lossy I mean that video posted on the internet used to always be reduced to so minimal a size that it looks and sounds poor in quality. I'd love to see this in HQ, especially since it was, as far as I can tell, their first big TV appearance.

  • Bright eyes is amazing i love them so much = ]

  • Oh how lossy video posts could be,

Way back at the turn of the century.

  • lossy?

  • network debut!!!! no way!!!

  • The drummer was so into this performance. Conor is a MAN X 10

  • lol. I don't get it. What's the problem with liking this, AND liking Kanye West, AND liking Bob Dylan, AND liking incubus, AND liking the deftones, AND liking Willie Nelson, AND liking Jay-Z? What's wrong with not liking any of them? What's wrong with other people not liking what you like?

  • Nothing. I'm okay with people listening to anything but Insane Clown Posse. You shouldn't listen to them for any reason at all. Unacceptable. Off limits.

  • HAHAHAHA, true dat.

  • @BlueArmageddon This gets all my upvotes ever

  • @BlueArmageddon bahhaha

  • @BlueArmageddon bahhahat

  • @BlueArmageddon

Fuckin' real music, how does that work?

  • @BlueArmageddon I've got to agree with you there. I always pride my self in a wide taste in music.... so does my current room mate.... but he LOVES icp.... I just don't understand it lol.... oh well.

  • @BlueArmageddon aww come on gimme some juggalo luv

  • @BlueArmageddon Well yea, that's the insane clown posse, though.... Lightning strikes, Obama makes McDonald's diarrhea in his pants, and Andy Dick eats another baby every time ICP comes on the stereo....

  • people are idiots.

  • i am a cockroach

  • :( ...

  • you leave people alone you jerk

  • @fillupsherman Because Incubus and The Deftones are terrible. But otherwise. I agree with you. ha ha ha.

  • @fillupsherman Nothing is wrong with having an eclectic taste in music. Or eclecic tastes in anything. You're alright, man. Don't let the bastards down.

  • @tommytee3 some people just don't have the mind to understand or appreciate eclectic art.

  • @fillupsherman I nodded my head at every word in approval.

  • @fillupsherman we get it you like stuff

  • @fillupsherman imo, the problem with other people's opinions is that people don't know how to articulate what they like or dislike about the music that they hear. In other words, people can't say why they like the music they say they like. They're just like, "this is a great song. I like the message and it's got a good beat, and, um, like the riffs are catchy and stuff." Those aren't real reasons. People like that abuse the music by identifying by it.

  • @fillupsherman Agreed, you can listen to Friday and be my friend but a see an ICP song on your Ipod our friendship is over.

  • @fillupsherman everything is wrong with that!

  • @fillupsherman And I have that question about religion too.

  • @fillupsherman no problem at all. hey im a goth and bright eyes is my favorite band

  • i love this song, once you really understand everything he is saying it will change your life

    forever

  • well i bet they he alot oof pussy for bein on tv and bein one of the top acts in music today

  • I see your point, maybe act like a pussy and you'll be surrounded by it? but no thats an amatuers mistake. Be a man and you get pussy

  • i dunno how this guys social commentary makes him a pussy

i dunno if yu actually listen to the lyrics..

if yur calling him a pussy by the way he dresses his hair than thats stupid..

if yur calling a pussy by the music he makes thats even more stupid..

now if yu call a man a man cause he gots tattoos then thats just as dumb

because he has a beard or cause he makes loud angry music .. its all the same

this music in its true core is the "blues"

  • Well that would explain why watching it then douchebag

  • guaranteed he gets more action, does more drugs, and has more fame than anyone here. He's living the rockstar life!

    don't hate him for it!

    embrace it!

  • I think it's absolutely hilarious that you said this. Like, I litterally laughed out loud. Mostly because the singer, Conor Oberst, hates technology, and I seriously doubt he has a blog. If you ever heard him talk, he thinks technology ruins people. But, I also laughed becauseof how judgemental you are:)

  • How the hell is he judgemental?

  • He would break his guitar over your ugly face. Judging by your comment you have obviously never listened to hot knives or don't know when but a days gonna come, or his other project desaparecidos. Listen to the words. Or maybe you don't deserve to hear this music. Keep listening the the computer generated beats on the radio and you will live a long life full of ignorance. Have a nice day.

  • i love Conor

  • I love this song-LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!

  • and you talk about going to college like you know me and like college is some place you go to learn how to listen to a song. If what you learned at college is how to argue with some guy about a goddamn conor oberst video then maybe you should enroll somewhere else.

  • whatsup007 you're just a pathetic dick sucker!

  • yeahhhhhhhhhh

  • Comment removed

  • are you kidding, this song is obviously controversial.

"Anchorman spike there blood wear masks of mud cucumbers cut to fit their eyes/ so no one will know how tired they've grown of talking and telling there lies"

If you don't see that as controversial. I'd like you to tell me something controversial, and I'll call you a dumbass.

  • okay whatever I dont agree, but in any matter this song is still great!

  • I really think the verse is because he is talking about new channels lying, and America going and attacking anyone or thing that hates us. but that is my personal take on the song.

"victims and christians both drinking blood

and they pray for the destruction of all hatred

more often, just those with hate for us

'cause it hurts when you discover one's worse and one's better

to suffer or cause others to

  • I love how he does the most controversial songs on TV

  • lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • I love him. I'd get so lost if I knew him. I don't want to be lost anymore :(

  • i swear ill find you and beat you down so hard you won't be able to eat sleep breathe shit piss or wake up EVER AGAIN.

  • this is my fave song by them, buht the drummer is funny to watch LMAO

  • this is a good song by them... but i still like a perfect sonnet...

  • didnt like the drummer, the other one is way better, or at least he was playing a more interesting groove, if he was just playing the drums for this song then i guess i cant judge

  • Soo great. the perfect song to play and I love him love him love him!

  • Hshs, that gave me a smile :)

  • he should of kept that drummer. hes cool

  • where can i buy this song?

cant find it on any album

  • It can be found on the rarities compilation "Noise Floor."

  • thx alot, that's an album i don't have. gonna buy it now, thx again =)

  • Limewire

  • its on noise floor nikkah

i think this is the best bright eyes song

  • do you think the people in the crowd knew that they were witnessing one of the most prolific songwriters of our time.? did they know this.? i mean, they had to realize that theres feeling in this song tantamount to any feeling ever felt. its abstraction with focus. a blur with a point, yes.?

  • I always wonder the same thing, I hope he is appreciated for all that he is, and the beautiful literary masterpieces he has created.

  • Hello my name is Nathaniel and I am on the YouTube message board for Conor Oberst on David Letterman

  • wow, u sexist sonofa bitch. basically he's not cool because he has a girl in his band? and if u really like somebody, at-least learn how to spell their name.

  • Gayest/dumbest comment ever.

  • I think you mean Conor?

    And wtf? lol

  • WHAAAAAAT???

  • i love that this song was unreleased at the time

  • haha yeah I was thinking that.

    Got to love Noise Floor.

  • hey u guys are all talkin about his albums...guess what...theres gonna be a new one(cant help but smile) and you know its going to be amazing...cuz in my opinion there getting better....since its a bright eyes message board hopefully people will pay attention to what im saying ;) haha love you all...dont do too many pills

  • you obviously can judge art with opinions.

  • Who ever DID question his talent apparently doesnt realize that they arent as talent as he. Because you arent doing anything.

  • Conor Oberst is the biggest self concieted person in music. But he can afford to be because he put out over 3 albums before graduating high school. Lifted he dropped out of college because he toured to much.

  • All his albums are good for different reasons. The fact that he evolves so steadily just further enforces the fact that he is a talented artist.

  • i love conor and i love this song :)

  • the drummer is so bouncy!

  • You cant judge art. you cant say his shit is getting worse or better. who the fuck are you?

  • im the juggernaut bitch

  • fuck i meant the there is no beginning to the story EP, my bad i get those two mixed up a lot

  • you guys that say you like his old shit more, but then mention im wide awake dont know wtf youre talkin about. from the every day and every night ep and onwards has been his transition into primarily folk music. his "old shit" is anything before that if you wanna make a clear distinction. im wide awake is his best album, and like in the top ten albums ever if you ask me. anything from that EP and on is my fave shit. his old stuff is good, but not as good. however fevers and mirrors aint too hot

  • i'm gonna have to disagree. fevers and mirrors is a lot better then people give it credit for. the lyrics are as good as anything. look at the song arienette. those lyrics are amazing, the calender hung itself, sunrise, sunset. that album is incredible. but really, has he ever done anything that wasn't incredible?

  • i agree with this comment sooo much lol i love fevers and mirrors! i love all his songs i just obsess over conor all the time:D hehe

  • No one can be wrong if it's a matter of opinion!

Anyways, I must say I love Noise Floor, and I love Conor's youthful stuff. But I also love Cassadaga and find it to be way different from all his other stuff... but then again everything is different from everyhing else.

  • best bright eyes song.

  • Luckily Conor still hasnt sold out, but his music is deteriorating. Fevers and Mirrors is great, Digital Ash and Im Wide Awake are good, Lifted Is wicked, but my personal fave is the Neva Dinova/Bright Eyes Split--One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels (SERIOUSLY GET IT! DOWNLOAD IT!)

  • I'm Wide Awake its Morning is his best so far, at least I think so.

  • yea, i agreee the early stuff was better. fevers and mirrors and letting off the hapinness are ma favourites =) i never got that neva dinova split ep tho, thanks i'll def geddit

  • i really think that if you believe that his music is deteriorating then you don't know music. i'm sorry, i'm not trying to insult everyone, but his musicianship gets better with everything he puts out. he is evolving as any real artist should, therefore his stuff is changing, but it is completely inaccurate to say it is getting worse. it continues to get better.

  • noise floor is a great album. a heard somthing about how amy in the white coat and happy birthday to me (feb 15)were written when he was a freshman in highschool.maybe true, maybe not. but theres no talking shit about this guy.

cassadaga is a brilliant album...if you despise it... you try and put 12 instruments together...have everyone play in sync...make it sound good...and write amazing lyrics to go with it.

  • I agree. If you want to learn more about the history of Bright Eyes I suggest buying the DVD-Spend an Evening with Saddle Creek. Its a doco but it has some good music and Son, Ambulance, Sorry about Dresden, Azure Ray, Bright Eyes some wicked Nebraskan bands.

  • Spend an evening is sick. Each band has their own interesting story

  • put the disc in the player, put on your headphones, close your eyes, and really take cassadaga for what its worth. masterpiece.

you can't deny the talent and emotion there

  • yeah, you can. its conor struggling to keep up appearances.

  • dude no offense, cassadaga sucks. His old shit's where it's at.

  • true fans should agree with you.

  • Fuck off. You're not a true fan if you like Cassadaga? Fuck off.

  • considering your partiality for cassadega, i'm going to go ahead and believe you to be a mongoloid fuck. cassadega is nothing compared to his earlier works. bright eyes loses their staying power as you listen to the discog in chronological order. if you can't see how conor's "evolution" as an artist is him losing what garnered his fan base, then there isn't any hope for you ever truly appreciate what he brought to the table.

  • wow. in reply to maiglockchen's comment, i was just suggesting to listen to cassadaga with an open mind.

theres no need to call names and weep about thinking you were the only one to truly know old bright eyes, because believe me, you weren't.

i happened to love his older works (especially I'm Wide awake and lifted) and find cassadaga a great addition to his musical career

  • hey yeh. im very much into cassadaga at the moment. brilliant album. very powerful. this is the only video on youtube featuring bright eyes where you dont have idiots giving them shit via comments.

  • Cassadaga does suck for the most part. Four Winds gets old after two plays. Hot Knives, Middle Man, Cleanse Song, aren't that great. The only one that I love is Brakeman.

  • brake men is one of the worst songs cassadega is amazing

  • fuck that, i think its amazin

  • the realy old stuff is kind of too emo and depressing. i love the inbetween years (LIFTED to Digital ash/Im wide awake)

  • i love this performance

  • this song is my favorite

  • this is much better than cassadega

  • You will find that most of the older music by them will be better, but cassadega has some good ones.

  • yeah I love this stuff, but I have absolutely no problem with the new direction. thats what its all about, its change. they may come back to this. listen to their really old stuff.

  • cassadaga is incredible..has to be my favorite one. conor all grown up, over drugs, becoming more comfortable in himself..the songs are beautiful

  • Prophet

  • thats what i call him

  • great

  • did anyone else notice he skipped the last couple lines? anyway, great song.
