  • Mom has this I'm worried she's going to surgery tomorrow

  • sucks, im almost 23, last year had an umbilical hernia surgery now i got this one i think. the lump and my testicle hurts and i cant sneeze or cough

  • I'm only 16 I'm really nervous I really don't want to get this done but it's really painful and swollen

  • @TheDKPhantom Hey man its not that bad. I just got it done last week. You'll be sore for a few weeks, and your nuts will be really achy, but I was up n walkin around a few days later. They do give you some good drugs! lol I got Percocet, which made me sleep a lot! As long as you take it easy and don't try and lift anything for like 4 weeks, everything will be fine. PLUS, when they repair it, you'll NEVER get another hernia on that side again!

  • I just had this fixed on 1/11/12. The surgery went very well. The first day isn't too bad...just get home quick and find a nice recliner and put in front of the TV. The second day was painful but more of a sore type pain. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm on the third as I type this I can move around the house no problem but still taking it easy. Should be good to go by Monday 1/16/12. Happy healing. Mine was an indirect repair with an umbilical one as well.

  • My friend said he got a minor hernia during his nfl game and the locker room he got kicked in the groin and apparently It went away doubt it though

  • Why the f*** did I watch this!! Im so frikin scared. Plus my birthday is in 2 weeks. :-(

  • @PSwarrior25 Do you have an inguinal hernia? Let me know if you want any input. It wasn't as bad a I thought it would be. Just make sure you get the laparoscopic surgery. The open one is VERY painful from what I've heard.

  • @JediGTI Thanks. I am having my operation on Thursday most probably. Wish me luck.

  • @PSwarrior25 Good luck. I was really nervous about it but after talking to a few people who've had it done I felt better. It's not as bad as it looks. Just be ready to rest for about 3 full days.

  • @JediGTI Oh I am trust me.

  • @PSwarrior25 How did it go?

  • People have been having "mesh" complications all over the country!

  • Just had it, it sucks, but I am healing fast, best luck to you xO

  • I just got a hernia, today. I'm going to have surgery later this week. This sucks, FML.

  • @segovian No worries man!Seems to be an easy one with no complications. Good luck

  • having this tmr, wish me luck!

  • Just got this done 2day they just put u 2 sleep then u wake up in recovery room, not even very sore, (take bucket for car ride home trust me u will need it :) ) gud luck.

  • @budzag I had it last Thursday and have been back to work since this Tuesday. As you, not even very sore, but it my case I didn't need a bucket. The anesthesiologist cautioned me that some folk's digestive systems are more sensitive to the anesthesia than others, but I essentially didn't have any problems. Not everyone will need a bucket. :)

  • I`ve had this operation and am documenting my recovering on YouTube. To be honest its not that bad and I seem to recovering quickly.

  • omigod love this!

  • If my hernia has protruded into my testicle where will they cut me open? I would love a response.

  • @Flotillaattack I don't know every detail of this operation however to my knowledge, a standard incision is made over the inguinal canal and the intestinal loop is pulled up from the scrotum. To my knowledge, if an incision was made in the scrotum, another incision would have to made in either right or left lower quadrant of the abdomen anyways and the whole point of any surgical operation is to reduce the amount of incisions necessary. So I would not worry about "scrotal incisions".

  • i got my repair on monday

  • It seems like a ball comes out and then it goes away, what is this?

  • Fuck. Me.

    I'm scared. I don't want a scar. =.=

  • Great video! I have had this opp twice now (on the same side!). I wish this procedure was availible back then!

  • Open Inguinal surgery is cheaper but the pain is excruciating + it leaves a huge scar. Laparoscopic Inguinal Surgery is expensive but less painful. After you wake up from the Anesthesia, you'll experience sore throat, swelling from the testicular (took 8 weeks till' it was gone)... depends left/right. I had the surgery on Saint John's Health Center and my surgeon was Matthew Lublin (great surgeon). Bill was around 11k + ultrasound (+6k). If you have insurance, the better. 2 weeks of recovery btw

  • @evilmind5 I had the open surgery last Thursday and been back at desk work since Tuesday. Pain was/is very minimal and my "scar" is so thin it is almost invisible and 4" or less long - scar length depends on how large the hernia is. I didn't have ultrasound - yours sounds like it was a much more serious case; I would venture most folks would prefer outpatient surgery than emergency surgery for a strangulated intestine any day. I don't see how anyone could afford surgery w/o insurance.

  • while watching this it making my ass cramp!

  • Had this surgery august, hurts like hell afterwards. Three months later feeling much better.

  • i m male 21.few days ago i noticed above my right testicle der is swallowing thing.it enlarges a bit lyk testicle n aftrwards slowly contracts.it does nt pain much .is it hernia?does it has connection wid TB?wat r causes?is it dengerious?m worried.

  • can you die during the surgery O_O im scared of it XD

  • @zomzom26 I had the open, not laparoscopic surgery, am 42 and it was first time to have general anesthesia. I used to be deathly afraid of anesthesia, but this is my second digestive procedure in a month which required some type of anesthesia and both times I was out like a baby. Hopefully you can have some good conversations with you physicians; the outpatient surgery isn't that bad and if you haven't had any prior bad experiences with general anesthesia, you shouldn't need to worry.

  • I HAD MY INGUINAL HERNIA REPAIR DONE TODAY AND THE ANESTHESIA MADE MY PASS OUT IN LESS THAN A MINUTE IN CHAM HOSPITAL BRONX NEW YORK AND IM 18 I JUST TURNED 18 2 DAYS AGO IT WENT WELL IM HOME NOW AND IN PAIN HOWEVER IM GLAD I HAD IT FIXED NOT NOTHING TO BE SCARED OF JUST HAVE A GOOD SURGEON AND THINGS WILL GO SWELL !

  • i had this done when i was 7 yrs old. Had double hernia. Dont ask how i got it, because even i do not know.. Altho my incisions were below my abdomin. only two small horizontal incisions.

  • I'm a girl and I had this done on the 3rd of october omg it hurts like mad, I feel for the people who have this type of hernia :( it's not nice

  • My name is Slobodan, I'm from Serbia, i have this type of hernia for a while now, and it doesnt hurt or anything i do sports normally but it bothers me in a estetic way, I dont like even to look at it. I'm trying to make myself to make an appointment at my doctor to do me a surgery but my main fear is will I ever do sports in full strength, cause I love basketball and going to the gym. My question to anybody who wants to answer me is it possible to do sports after this kind of surgery?

  • i had the hernia surgery done on 09/20/2011 on the right side of my groin, after seeing many doctors and last doctor say to me i have a big HERNIA and two weeks later i had surgery,i'm very sore in my groin, it's been 2 weeks now and,i'm haveing is this bad burning feeling all the time my in my scrotum my right (testicle) it feel like something is pulling on my spermatic cords it very painful geting in and out of bed and walking, i'm only 44 years old ,if any one is haveing this same pain ??

  • my friend Lisa's husband had this done on her birthday, and he is still recovering, and it will take time for him to heal.

  • @HOPEKMEYER19 I had the open surgery done this month on MY birthday and am feeling fine. :)

  • I'm from the US. I had general anesthesia, a breathing tube & catheter. No issues at all! Checked into the hospital at 5:30AM and after I was able to urinate, I was home at 2PM the same day. Feeling great three weeks later. Get over the USA horror stories. They exist all over the world...unfortunately.

  • I had this method 3 weeks ago. i feel really good. So good that I often feel I can do anything, but be careful!! Take the proper time to heal. Its amazing though how much better you fell day after day. :)

  • im going to this operation next tuesday.....plz pray for me....

  • @jazrul80 how was your surgury, I'll need to have this done as well in a couple of weeks going for the ultra sound on friday to see I have a inguinal as well.

  • Good video, but it makes no mention of the option that is becoming more and more popular, the use of local anesthesia for this procedure. The use of local anesthesia is becoming more and more favourable as it requires no breathing tube, no catheter, and permits faster healing.

  • @eBiology I had exactly this. My surgery was done last Wednesday. I had local anesthesia, but no breathing tube and no catheter. I was given something intravenously that mellowed me out. Then I breathed in some gas that put the lights out. I woke up groggy 2 hours later with no discomfort, other than very mild pain in the area of the incision when I moved. I live in Europe and I had read horror stories from USA involving catheters and breathing tubes. I must say I was happy with how easy it was.

  • @helgih580 Much easier isn't it? Healing rates are much better following procedures performed under local anesthesia and there is no need for intubation and catheterization. This procedure is incredibly simple and usually does not need to be performed under GA.... so I don't know why so many surgeries are still performed under such complicated conditions.

  • @eBiology could you please tell me why the procedure with local anesthesia allows for faster healing? Just to add, I'm on day 3 now and I'm feeling quite good. The pain has decreased dramatically already and is totally manageable. Since the day of surgery, pain was rarely felt unless I moved improperly and the little pain that I did feel throughout the day was pretty much taken care of with painkillers.

  • @helgih580 I don't know the details but I remember reading a paper suggesting that healing rates may be better under local anesthesia because pain signals do not actually reach the brain, they are blocked locally, whereas under GA pain signals do reach the brain, it's just that the patient is unconcious and unable to process that incoming information. The belief is that a reduction in perceived pain during the surgery allows for faster healing.

  • @helgih580 Though I think a lot of medical professionals would still need more evidence to accept such a conclusion. Other than that I am really happy that you are feeling great and I wish you the best.

  • @eBiology First time for me to have GA, breathing tube, and outside of some mouth roof and throat soreness, no problems! Didn't seem particularly complicated from my vantage point. :)

  • @windk100 Hey, a lot of people prefer GA and that's perfectly fine. I personally just find it more complicated and also fear anesthesia awareness so if I were to ever have this operation, I would request local anesthesia + sedation.

  • Thanks for giving ualuable information in simple way.

  • Thanks for giving ualuable information in simple way.

  • How much would surgery probably cost on average?

  • I had hernia surgery when I was like 8 I still have a scar

  • I just had this done yesterday and it really is no big deal..I was terrified but its a routine surgery..I haven't taken the prescribed medicine either because the pain isnt that bad..

  • When you have a hernia, is the bump always visible? because i've been having pain in my groin region, but there are no unusual bumps. is this a hernia? or is this something else?

  • @theTicklemehellmo Yes, the bump is usually visible unless laying down. Also, inguinal hernias are rarely ever painful unless it's an emergency. So... it is probably something else, I hate to say.

  • is it possible to lose a testicle via this type of operation, or at least function of the spermatic cord? i noticed in the video when the mesh was in place, it didn't show the cord anymore. or i could be mistaken, but still, just wondering.

  • very nice:D

  • i going to do this monday morning at broward hospitial wish my ass some luck

  • @mazdaspeed26 Good luck! This is typically a routine procedure with no complications.

  • @nucleusanimation dont know where you heard there are not complications. I had this surgery last december. I would rather of kept the hernia. constant pain now and they dont know what to do. Went to medhelp and webmd looking for help and found hundreds or thousands of people looking for help with post surgical pains. I would not suggest anyone get this unless life threatening.

  • @nucleusanimation im not sure about that... what about it opening up and having to do it over and over and the mesh ? There are law suits going on about the medal meshes. Do you know anything about that?? Thanks

  • @mazdaspeed26 Good luck:)

  • @mazdaspeed26 good luck

  • @mazdaspeed26 how was ur surgery man. I may need to get this done soon. :-(

  • I'm having this tomorrow!! AAAAAAAA

  • A BETTER WAY

See Freedom Inquinal Hernia on Youtube

    No stiches, no pain.

Its obvious, watch the operation here

  • (1) Should be getting cleared for full duty June 1...6 weeks from surgery.

    (2) PAIN: Take meds every 4 or hours and on day of surgery start 1 hour after and 3 hours out then 4 hours...keep pain meds going promptly or you will feel like CRAP.

Vicadin was allergic & Codine work great...

    (3) And read below about going #2 after the surgery....NEEDS to be a gentle flow and no blast off or it will really hurt.

    Hope that helps ga8,

  • Hello everyone. I have 2 inguinal hernias one on each side :/ I will be going in for surgery June 2nd. I have some Q's though. My Doc told me I will be able to go back to work in a week however no heavy lifting for about 6 weeks (10 lbs or more is a no no).

-- How long did u guys take to go back to work?

-- What medications did u take to relax the pain?

Thanks guys I will appreciate some answers or any other concers I should worry about :)))

  • @ga8hn9xd I just had this procedure done 2 weeks ago. I was able to go to work the next week but I found it difficult to make it through a full day of work so I took many half days off during that week. I can lift things like jugs of water but nothing over 10 lbs (for 6 weeks). I received Vicodin for the pain & it managed it well but had to take Miralax for constipation. Overall, everything went well & everything is healing nicely. Good luck and try not to worry!

  • @ga8hn9xd What excersise were you doing? Just curious

  • @ARandomCanadian Hi, you werent talking to me, but I have the same issue (hernia on both sides) and I was doing decline situps, some with twists. Didnt hurt much when it happened, didnt even notice much actually....

  • @Mackoek How old are you? What's your bodyfat and how many years have you been in the gym?

  • @ARandomCanadian Hi, 21yo, Actually happened when I was 20yo, BF changes a bit within the year between 12-20% (If im on a muscle building-phase, or fat-cutting phase), but not Obese if u were curious about that. Been going to the gym for probably 3-4 years. I know some ppl claim that its due to a weak core in general, but my ab and back strength (deadlifts etc) are pretty high compared to the normal gym-go'er...so I think it was just the wrong movement at the wrong time that caused it.

  • @Mackoek crap, did you do any stretches before those situps?

  • @ARandomCanadian honestly cant remember, has been over a year ago since the first one appeared, I usually dont stretch prior to training, not extensively atleast. But I always do warmup by way of cardio or light warm-up sets.

If I could give one onice for ppl that dont have it YET and workout...dont do decline situps, and dont to situps with a twist in it (to focus on the obliques). Just very short movement(ROM) laying on the ground (not coming all the way up)

  • @ARandomCanadian or laying down knee/legraises are the safest motions I would guess.

  • Also, here's how to take care of the constipation. The 1st thing I did a few days before was get bottles of magnesium citrate. Took bottle(8-10oz) 6 hours after, and 1 bottle 24 hours after for the next 5 days. No blow out like exlax or similar laxatives. Worked & with no straining...especially with that scar. Hoping to get back at full duty at work 1st week of June.

LASTLY, thanks for all past comments that helped make this experience not as stressful as it could have been.

  • Freeze a few small (dasani) water bottles. When frozen, put in ziplock bag, lay thin towel on incision and ice/ziplock on towel. Underware waistband keeps it in place....makes the area feel MUCHO BETTER.with no frostbite(ice sticking to skin/incision).

  • Hey Hernia gang. Had right inguinal surgery on 4/18/11. Bad pain up to 3 days out then lessened. Thankfully had recliner~slept in for 3 nights & applied ice 45 mins. of every hour. Great idea with ice-->next post

  • Im 15 years old, and I think I have it, Im not sure.

    Im kinda scared too,

I fell a little lump on my right thigh, above my penis. Its by the joint.

If I get it removed, do this mean no sex, and how will it look afterwards?

Would it look like normal, and do it have pain? Please answer these questions cause I need some incite.

  • @ursoulja Lol, did you really watch the video. It has nothing to do with your sexual organs. Watch it again, it answers all of your questions. IF you get this removed it will look like normal. A few weeks afters the surgery you will be totally recovered.

  • @viniciusvrd Thanks , And I Dont Have It . I Just Tore My Groin Muscle , It Will Recover Soon . ^_^ . But Thanks Alot .

  • I had surgery 2 and a half weeks ago. The surgery was easy and nothing to be feared. The pain, however, has been difficult. The day of the operation is not bad, but the following 3 days are painful. I remember not being able to figure out how to get into bed for 30 min due to the pain.

I returned to work 9 days after the operation. That was not a good idea. I still have pain every day.

My case is a bit unusual. The doctor said that he put the patch on extra tight due to my high ac

  • i had mine a couple of months ago....right side if anyone wants any clarification just respond here

  • I am having the surgery (Rt Side) on Monday. Great advice here...read through 10 pages of comments. The key=TAKE PAIN MEDS ASAP. We guys can't stand much pain (I KNOW I can't)...that's why women rule the world (see childbirth~chuckling).

The doc said he will check the other side so if it looks like it's ready to come through, he will correct that also. Will check back & let y'all know what's happening.

  • I've just been informed that my older brother has been rushed into hospital for surgery of a Hernia, how serious is it? Im rather worried because I dont talk to him or see him much and I cant get hold of him by phone.

  • i had one repair like a year ago and i feel like its coming back again :(

  • I had umbillical hernia repair last year.

  • how to download this video?

  • I had this surgery 8 weeks ago and still have a raised inguinal bulg after 8 weeks not sure if this is swelling or a recurrent hurnia? I am going to the doctor on friday to have it checked out again. I did have to lift my 2 year old son some, but had severe pain right after the surgery for about one week before it started to subside. It hurt more than my compound fracture of my fibula. What are the rates of recurrence?

  • @wellfittraining how soon after until you lifted your son, and how much does he weigh. I had a bulge like that to, it was mostly swelling and the mesh settling in place, it took mine about 6 months to smooth over completely, and after I started doing situps again 6months after surgery the area was really tight at first but that went away to. My doctor said recurrence rates are only like 2%, but to be careful for the other side as hernias potentially develope the opposite side on some patients.

  • I had this surgery, it's a little painful to recover, and you have to be careful for a few weeks not to reinjure it, but 3 days after the surgery I was driving and going about my business like normal, just not lifting heavy objects. 2 months later, I was back to bodybuilding and weight lifting, so if you're worried, it's not bad at all after a few weeks.

  • @therealamoltisanti how do you get hernia?

  • @Demingosan, Do u mean, you also having trouble of this hernia issue?

and you don't want to make the surgery bcos of expensive and burden to ur parents?

  • People with SERIOUS medical conditions (infections which threaten sepsis; fractures; open wounds; pregnancies) will receive medical care WITHOUT REGARD TO ABILITY TO PAY in the US. The fact that they later receive a BILL (even if they later tear up that bill) constitutes some injustice to you college and high school kiddies who've lived on mommie and daddies' money your whole lives. Isn't food a more basic need than the repair of a fucking umbilical hernia? Why not make all meals free, too.

  • He who is not liberal by age 20 has no heart;

He who is not conservative by age 30 has no brain.

  • @UBERxL33T

iv waited 1 year, for surgery for a bonespur and having it that long caused a 'pre hernia'... still havent receieved the urgery i needed, might need more than one.

canada = not ftw.. sorrry man.

  • Here in Australia the Universal Health care system would pay 100%. The United States could do the same. It works and nobody goes broke because they get sick.

  • @ MadManWithMoney I know how you feel, I got kicked off my parents insurance when i was 16 years old, and now i need this surgery but its pre-existing, so its gonna cost us and its kinda expensive. In all do honesty, forget about my own well being, I just don't wanna burden my parents with bill and what not from the surgery

  • omg im 14 and iv had a hernia for 2 months now but i have no medical nor even a doctor , not even a dentist. is this deadly because i cant afford this, and even if i could afford it, i dont want it. to be honest i started crying after whatching this because ive never had any sergery before and ive heard that the stuff they give you to go to sleep doesnt always work and im scared bcuz i cant do anything about it....

  • @MadManWithMoney you spellt surgery wrong -_- then again you are only 14 hmm shows a lot

  • Im getting a double of this on the eleventh. Im seventeen and very actve with weight trainging, football, mma and work. How long after having this surgery done on both sides before im back in the gym? how long until im back in the sack?

  • My husband was scheduled for this today but after the doctor refused acknowledge & alleviate concerns, he cancelled and walked out. Worst hospital ever & worst dr ever

  • I've got a hernia on my belly button (dunno how you say the proper name for it. ) But anyway, I'm on the waiting list for surgery & they said it will be in about 2 months time. I've made a rod for my own back I think coming on here looking at vids & stuff but wanted to get an idea.

I'm dead nervous of it, tbh. Never had an operation before, so know little of what to expect. But the Doc said it's gotta be done. =( Having said all this, it's been helpful reading all the comments here.

  • my friend got a hernia i think he have the hernia for15 year now. he told me his hernia is down to his ball is that bad? but he don't have no medical plan or any insurance! what can he do now? thanks

  • The surgery was $11,000. That wasn't what I had to pay. I paid around $200. Since each medical plan is going to pay different amounts, I just gave the total so folks could figure out what they may have to pay. In the US, many plans may pay 80% or 90%. Other plans may just ask for a co-payment. Mine was a $200 copay, and it's paid for.

  • I underwent this procedure about five hours ago. The wearing off of the anasthetic is the worst part. It's not even that painful after you wake up.

  • i went through this 6 days ago but not this method though. i went through the open hernia repair. the experience is unforgettable.

  • Comment removed

  • my dad jus got the surgery today he cant move.. or talk doc said he wont be able to get up for 2weeks =/

  • im pretty sure this is exactly what i have..

but- judging by what you folks have said, the aftermath is pretty painful for around a week after the fact..the only solace granted by pain meds..welll im an ex opiate addict, been clean years now but i'm on suboxone, which blocks opiates..

so i'm pretty much straight fucked as far as pain meds, sure i could not take subs the day before and be dopesick till after the surgery, but even dilaudids don't affect me..only option is to take the pain.. :/

  • @crimsontowers This is unfortunate for you :(

  • @crimsontowers my dad just had this done hes ok now

  • Dude I'm 14 and I just had hernia surgery. Don't be worried the surgery is easy and not that bad and when your done they give you really good pills that make it all better. I have testicular cancer also now I'd take a hernia over that anyday

  • i'm 22 and i just found out i have inguinal hernia and it is one of the most painful things i ever had in my life thus far, i havent gotton the surgery yet due to the fact i dun have health insurance but i hope to get some soon, as for the comments left by a lot of u guys i really hope this doesnt screw me for the rest of my life....

    FML:(

  • @CJSMD101988 dude dont worry as long as you have a good doctor and your covered its all good, just do what the doc tells you to and you'll have a scare to brag about

  • I don't have health insurance and i'm pretty sure I have an inguinal hernia. There goes my body building career. FML

  • Comment removed

  • @alav3rg4 my doctor said that I cant lift heavy things anymore, there's a chance of getting another one again... that's sad

  • i have one now...i think it was from doing backflips :( i thought i pulled a bad muscle

  • I had right side inguinal hernia surgically repaired incisionally 3 years ago. I still have pain in the region where the mesh was inserted. It is not painful 100% of the time but when I stand up for 3-4 mins or longer it hurts. 10 months after the surgery, I tried to lift and move some weight about 5 feet (2x100lb dubbells) and a small protrusion occured (very painful) in the mesh area about the size of a marble. Over a weeks period, I was able to massage the marble-sized protrusion away.

  • @abelv123 HI I HAD THIS OPPERATION ON THE 14 JAN 2011,AL WENT WELL FOR 6 WEEKS;THEN THE PAIN STARTED,WENT BACK TO SEE MY SURGEN...HIS CONFUSED...TOOK ME INTO TEARTER GAVE ME 1 NERV BLOCK INJECTION,THEN 12 THEN 9,THIS PAIN DONT STOP,5 MONTS IN BED,CNT DO SHIT,GOT NEW SURGEN OPERATED AGAIN 16 MAY 2011.6 WEEKS LATER ITS BACK THE PAIN ITS UNBEARABLE.I WISH I NEVER WENT FOR INGUINAL HERNIA OPPERATION...I STILL SUFFER AN ITS NOT GETTING ANY BETTER...ALL THE BED REST DIN HELP ME...AN IM STILL IN PAIN.

  • @drsstyling you were just an unlucky guy.. poor boy,

  • @drsstyling I went back to my surgeon a couple months ago and I really was confused with his response. You see I had the surgery in 2007 and went back Aug 2011 and explained my pain. He talked to me as if I didn't actually have a protrusion occur back in 2008. I confronted him about it and asked if he believed me. He eventually said he did. But he said in a nutshell that the pain is not uncommon and that he really couldn't do anything about it - basically I have to live with the pain.

  • I just went through the operation 3 days ago. Now I'm feeling better although I still can't lift heavy object...!

  • 3 weeks after was still rather sore, big improvement from that however. at about week 4 or 5 i was about completely back to normal

  • the bills just started coming in. I've seen $12,000 so far for it. I'm in Columbus, Ohio, US. Of that, I'm on the hook for $800-900 total. The hospital had me pay $350 in advance and I'll be billed for the rest. You could probably call the doctors office and ask what the normal bill is. You could then call your insurance to find what percentage you would need to pay.

  • @ldownard1

You had inguinal hernia surgery for $11 000 (approx)? Geez, now I know why I'm not in the US. The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) paid for my surgery and health insurance covered the semi-private room I got afterwards.

  • For the trip to Wales, as long as you are traveling with someone, you should be fine. You will be taking Narcotics, typically Vicodin, so you wouldn't be able to drive. If you explain the situation, the doc may be able to get you a some stronger pain meds in case you find that it was too much too soon. Dilaudid (hydromorphone) would take you from a "pain level of ten" to "I lsee butterflies" in just a couple minutes. I'd only do that if I realized that I made a mistake and was really in pain

  • thanks for the info ..i have to wait 3 moths so i can get my insurance. how much did u pay for the surgery?

  • I had this surgery last week. I waited two years. You may not be able to wait, or you may wait for years. The Doc needs to decide. I was sedated for the surgery, so no pain there. The day after the surgery was the worst day by far. Be VERY liberal with pain meds that day in particular. The surgery was on a Friday. The following Wed, I was off all the pain meds completely. There will be a lot of swelling in the area. Expect it. With a good doc, you shouldn't worry too much.

  • @ldownard1 i waited a month lol

  • can i have i hernia for 3 moths or more without operating ?

  • @castinsane ive had mine for a year im going in thursday for the operation :s

  • my 6 year old son is having this done and you guys are really making me worry, i hope its not that uncomfortable for him bless

  • @vickymichael34 don`t worry his young and strong

  • man, these are the best uses you can get out of youtube, sometimes images aren't enough and a place where you can find almost anything you could imagine is priceless

  • my older brother just had this operation.

  • Yeah Ive had two hernia surgerys one when I was 14 the other when I was 17 it hurts alot....I was laying in bed for a month after each surgery. Took pain pills that basically jus knocked me out so I didnt have to feel the pain.

  • y ppl got hernia problm?

  • I got a quick question.

I got my hernia operation in March, how soon can I lift weights again? I haven't done any exercise since and I'm no happy with my body anyway. ( done my operation especially because I felt insecure with it ).

  • @Winterfang ask ur own doctor who perfform the surjery and, good luck!

  • update and warning, 48 hours post surgery is quite painful if you fall behind on your pain meds due to sleeping, pain meds making me very itchy as well

  • I had this done yesterday morning. I intentionally did not watch videos or read up on it in forums online, it's all scary.

I am feeling way better than I thought I would. I really don't hurt any worse than i did before the surgery, Just stay cool, and take your pain medications.

  • @markbhoward im having mine thursday.....and i want to go to my friends in wales on the following monday....is that 4 day period enough for me to recover NOT IMMENSILy just enough so i can walk around

  • @jerryjingjo sorry late to get back to you!! so you had the surgery yesterday?!?

be careful what you plan based on how you feel right now, you can see form my notes that the next day i felt pretty good, that was because of pain meds and soreness had not peaked yet! so dont make plans! You better plan on sitting in reclining comfortable chairs for at least a week or two! short stints of walking only.

  • hey guys, i had open heart surgery, a 4-way by-pass... do you think hernia sugery will hurt worse than that...????

  • I get hernia surgery on the 31st. This video realllly made me scared. I DON'T wanna use a cathedar or a breathing tube! ):

  • @myyprincessxo ... hernias are the bread and butter of general surgeons. They only put in a urinary catheter if they are doing it laparoscopically, and even then, they don't always put one in. BUT, having said that, having a catheter put in is better than having them puncture your bladder cos it's so full of urine that it's in the way of them operating!

  • @myyprincessxo ... As for the breathing tube, if you're having a general anaesthetic, that's the only safe way for them to keep you alive - to put a tube in your airway so that you can still breathe. You could always ask your anaesthetist for a spinal anaesthetic - a needle in the spine where they inject local anaesthetic which will number your lower half - but then there is a risk for paralysis, and a huge risk of introducing infection in to the brain.

  • omfg i get hernia surgery on the 25th and this video freaked me the hell out :(

  • I was opertated from a double-sided inguinal hernia about three years ago, but I still feel pain. I've visited the doctor and I've been told that everything is ok. but I'm afraid something is not right. Sometimes it hurts a lot when I stand up for a long time or I walk. Is that normal?

  • Getting this done tomorrow on left side. They might check the other side too since I had hernias as a baby and had surgery. Ufff!

  • MY name Didier Drogba and i am 32 years old. I play for Ivory Coast and the Chelsea Football Club. i had hernia surgery last week. now i dont need painkillers or miss training or get subbed. From now on i can show my whole movement and i will now be more freely. Merci

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

    I have Hernia

    DO NOT WANT SURGERY

  • @RenegadeFury I had surgery 5 days ago. It's better to get it done. Hurts a bit though.

  • @RenegadeFury The risks that come with not repairing it would not be what you want! Don't be afraid, this is a very routine procedure, and very low risk. I am on day five of recovery, and the pain is already starting to abate. Just have it done, rather than risk further damage!

  • @RenegadeFury hey i know someone he has the solution for some problem like hernie he can this without pain and surgey repair he use the > fire shoots< i dont know how explain that but the patien after 3 day have no hernie .. its working its really

  • I had this surgery yesterday and the symptoms all depend on the person and how severe the hernia is. My hernia was really big so after surgery, I couldnt walk very well, and getting up and lying down was extremely difficult. The 1st 24 hrs is absolutely horrible.. the anesthesia makes you nauseous and you have absolutely no appetite. Haven't eaten in 40 hours. My best advice is.. if you're nauseous, just don't eat anything and lie down but if youre not then, try eating light and walking around.

  • @davejammin I had surgery on Aug 2nd for this type of hernia. I was really nauseous from the anesthesia. I ended up throwing up that evening and i thought I was going to die it hurt so bad. i feel better now two days later. I can sit up in bed without help now however, i still walk very slowly. I hope I never have to repair the other side.

  • Had my surgery 30 hours ago. No need for painkillers. Hope you're as lucky as me.

  • what happens if one of those are broken?

  • yesterday (july 9th, 2010) i had Hernia repair you cant laugh, sneeze, run, jog. it suckes trust me. it takes about 4 weeks to recover

  • I took a picture of my hernias with my cell phone. Wanna see? I've watched hours of these surgeries. There's got to be a better way. I bet you could go in through the anal canal and work it from there without even cutting the skin.

  • @xvirg Dr. confirmed it - wrote me a prescription for a truss; a mocked up girdle with some thick pads to push the hernias in. I made my own with a jock strap and a pair of socks. Fold each sock in half, then half again and tuck them in over the hernias. This has made a huge positive difference for me. Before the jock truss, my left hernia would get sore and throb down to my left testicle. No more after wearing the truss - 18 holes of golf, painless.
