@demc67 yes i know this....... but if you had read the description u would have known why it was misspelled accidentally- my mother's name is katherine and she spells it with an e..hence why i am used to spelling it that way..and it was too late to change this later when i realized the mistake >.<
I lived in Los Angeles in the mid 70s. A friend of mine owned a home on Doheny Drive off of Sunset Blvd if I recall the streets correctly. Across the street was the home of movie director, George Cukor, a good friend of Katharine's...She used to stay at his home when she would be in Los Angeles. Cukor's home had a tall stone fence around it. Sometimes, when Katharine was staying there she would work in the garden and wear a straw type garden hat that would show just slightly above the fence.
I wish it had that scene when Eleanor asks what kind of children Henry and Alice will create. "What kind of spindly, ricket-ridden, milky, whithered, dim-eyed... line of things will you beget?"
This dialogue is amazing. I've been in the play as John, and this was one of the few plays I've been in that I just couldn't put the script down, even before I was cast.
It's good to see someone can appreciate a classic- thanks for uploading these scenes. =)
I absolutely adore this movie. It is very intense and you must pay total attention to the dialogue and to each scene or you will lose what is going on. The scenes and emotions are very much intermingled. Alot of what is going on is quite shocking and brutal. One of my favorite lines are "When I bellow, bellow back, use all your voices"
What an great job of acting Katherine Hepburn does in this wonderful movie. How about the scene where she tells Henry to take their childrens lives? "Execute them! You gave them life, now you take it." And then she states how the human race are creatures of the dark , "Can't you see them? You can see their eyes." And Peter O'Toole, although exhausted, stands up and says, "I'm a match for any man," as if to say "I can handle whatever life throws at me." You did a great job.
yes ! great scene as well- i also like the very end when henry says, " you know, i hope we never die!"(to which Eleanor replies, "So do I." Then Henry laughs and says, "Do you think there's any chance in it?!" LOVE IT : )
This has always been one of my favorites; terrific script, terrific acting. I can watch it over and over. When I see it memorialized as an old movie, I cringe because I saw it in the theater the first time, however, I am old too. Thanks for posting this treasure.
lol i cringe too when teens today talk about how the 80's and 90's have old movies-like it was back in the dark ages..makes you feel like ancient ya know? AND i must express my jealousy.. how COOL and AWESOME that must have been to have seen this gem at the theater!!!
Greatest movie ever, greatest cast and dialogue. There is one other scene that should be included in this group. Early in the film Henry and Alyce are talking, Alyce says "Henry! how can I be married to John and still be your mistress?". Henry replies "Oh! Johnny won't mind I'll have a word with him about it". In the immortal words of Mel Brooks "Its' good to be the King".
I guess this is an "old" movie where history is transformed by great actors, superb dialogue and professional acting-quite in contrast to "modern" films, known by their special effects where celebreties pose as actors accompanied by empty dialogue. I'll take the "old" movies anytime.
What a remarkable woman - both of them. It seemed that Henry was vastly overmatched, both in person and intellectually. Imagine France if she had stayed there! Talk about a career mom - 15 kids, although she buried all but 2.
I don't think anyone else could have played this role then, and it's a high mark for anyone who would do a remake, even with 'names' starring.
Excellent job on the editing, You have wonderful taste. Well done, very well done indeed !!!! This is my favorite movie too... Nothing made today compares .... or even come close.
I really would like to watch the full length of this film. I love your video. Just would like to correct the name of Hepburn. It is KATHARINE not Katherine. Thank you.
im going to have to put this in the description vid too..i know its misspelled sweety- my mothers name is katherine and i'm used to spelling it that way just a typo at the time but too late to correct it.
I will never forget seeing this film for the first time. It was revolutionary! And now watching these scenes, brings it all back. Wonderful. Thankyou!
Hepburn show perfectly that she was the only actress of her generation who can be at her best in those years, and still wins oscars. She is the real Queen of Hollywood.
Love this Film!! Reminds me of one of my family reunions! )p Incredible film, incredible performances, thanks for the upload. Today's films are So, so weak when compared to this masterpiece.
lol i know its spelled that way my mother 's name is katherine and im used to spelling it that way- i already made the vid before i realised it sorry:( and ty:)
"It's 1183 and we are Barbarians."
Odd line, very Charlie Kaufman, very funny!

Thanks for uploading, JaYnEsAyZ. This IS a great film with a great script and a first rate cast. If you like this, you would enjoy
the BBS production of "I, Claudius" too.

Shakespeare himself would have given this film a standing ovation! One of the greatest classics ever-and terribly underrated.

"What family doesn't have its problems"
What a classic line! She provokes Henry's ire and just lays that line down...it's almost comic relief. Pure genius!
