Also, it was carrier launched rather than shore launched so could afford fuel to hang around for a fight. The AFA basically had to attack the Royal Navy ships then run home before they ran out of fuel. I recommend reading 'Sea Harrier over the Falklands' by Flt Cmdr Nigel 'Sharkey' Ward.

Harrier was designed to take off from roads in germansy when the Soviet Union invaded and give the allies close air support. NOT to shoot down MIGS. The British battle rifle was the SLR the exact same as the Argies (Argies had full auto, the British didnt). The Argies had numbers the British were trained. Thats what difference was

@sammni : There are several reasons why the Harrier trumped the Mirages, notwithstanding the superior training of the Fleet Air Arm pilots, the Harrier was armed with heat-seeking AIM-9L Sidewinder missles. Also, it was carrier launched rather than shore launched so could afford fuel to hang around for a fight. The AFA basically had to attack the Royal Navy ships then run home before they ran out of fuel. I recommend reading 'Sea Harrier over the Falklands' by Flt Cmdr Nigel 'Sharkey' Ward.

In those times there was censorship, so probably the reporters avoided authentic pictures. Thre were some photos, but not many either. BTW - I am just wodering - most people on the footage and photos are still alive, so they would be able to say about the circumstances of taking the photo (footage).

Galtieri & Thatcher were both very unpopular leaders who saw the oppertuinty the the Falklands presented, both had no qualms in sending the usual working class cannon fodder to due their bidding.
