i would love to see a land rover bmw audi mercedes or any other european offroad suv do what a hummer h1 can do. it can tow more, jump higher, tread more mud and water than any sissy 4wd. just looking at the technology it had when it came out still amazes me. there is absolutely no way your going to beat a hummer in every aspect of offroading at all.

American cars are poor build pieces of metal with pre war road handling, chinese plastic and not reliable and not capable to keep up with Audi, BMW, MB or Volvo's not even Land Rovers. @turfwerks1 I was out driving around in an S4 wagon in the Chicago storm... but I will admit that I got stuck in a parking lot because the snow was too deep and I was going too slow... I was able to plow my way out of the driveway and onto the main roads. And that was on summer tires. But a duramax would be alot of fun... used to have one, but didnt have it in winter time.

AWD owns 4x4. The only reason I won't get rid of my 95' audi A6 quattro. I have a shit ton of fun passing trucks stuck on roads because they only have RWD or 4x4 and my 4 door grocery getter gets up or down or over anything during the winter time without fail. @TinnInches sure on road and maybe on some loose surfaces such as dirt or snow you will have the advantage over a 4x4, but let's see you climb over a rock or a particularly steep grade, as in an 18" wall. I love AWD and Audi too but I know what they can and cannot do. On the road you'll own a 4x4 every day in the snow but off road you will be stuck.

@Mainiac1221 It's a diesel engine, the H1 Hummer is very different from the H2 Hummer you see driving around the cities everywhere. I think a very select few H1's were EVER offered with a gas engine (5.7L Chevy V8). It's not the fastest thing on the road, but i bet it gets the same or better mileage than the smaller H2 with the smaller gas engine.
I own a 1995 H1! There is no selecting 4wd. It's in 4 wheel all the time. You can choose low or high and it would have been appropriate for the dumb ass driver to put it in low and D1. He or she hit the hill fast and it should have been hit slow and the throttle should have been feathered! This in no way shows that Audi is superior. Many things beat an H1 in certain conditions, but you just can't find a truck or suv built to handle the conditions a H1 can handle with stock parts from the factor
hills are different, and the hummer looks like it was only in RWD, when it slid backwards, the only spinning tires were the rear... i've ridden and driven H1's... if driven properly that hill would be no problem, my grandmothers jeep could make it up that hill with her driving.
looked like the same hill, just diff cam angle. look at the markings in the snow. they match up from what i could see.. hummers fatass couldnt make it.

What makes this video silly, as well as most of the posters, is that the two vehicles utilize the same AWD system. They both use Torsen differentials front and back. When you "lock in" the transfer case on an H1 you are locking the front and rear axles together which obviously the driver here didn't do. The newer Audi's use a proprietary center diff which auto locks when one axle starts to spin, as opposed to the old Torsen center diff which would have the same problem as the H1.
Kudos to the germans for building cars that do some amazing suff in the snow.im always jealous when i almost hit a parked car trying to turn a corner in my chevy truck and audis vokswagens go thru the corner at twice the speed i just did with no effort.however the person behind the wheel of the hummer probably doesnt know how to use.it my cousin stationed in germany goes up hills like that all the time in a military spec humvee .just deflate the tires,lock the diffs and go.

It looks like the same hill to me, just shot from a different angle. I'm pretty sure the Hummer made it up that hill too though, just after they cut it.
Besides, as far as I know, Hummer and Audi Quattro (except A3/S3/TT) both feature the Torsen-differential, so the only two differences here should be weight and speed of approach...

@Mainiac1221 It's a diesel engine, the H1 Hummer is very different from the H2 Hummer you see driving around the cities everywhere. I think a very select few H1's were EVER offered with a gas engine (5.7L Chevy V8). It's not the fastest thing on the road, but i bet it gets the same or better mileage than the smaller H2 with the smaller gas engine.

I own a 1995 H1! There is no selecting 4wd. It's in 4 wheel all the time. You can choose low or high and it would have been appropriate for the dumb ass driver to put it in low and D1. He or she hit the hill fast and it should have been hit slow and the throttle should have been feathered! This in no way shows that Audi is superior. Many things beat an H1 in certain conditions, but you just can't find a truck or suv built to handle the conditions a H1 can handle with stock parts from the factor

hills are different, and the hummer looks like it was only in RWD, when it slid backwards, the only spinning tires were the rear... i've ridden and driven H1's... if driven properly that hill would be no problem, my grandmothers jeep could make it up that hill with her driving.

looked like the same hill, just diff cam angle. look at the markings in the snow. they match up from what i could see.. hummers fatass couldnt make it.

@nrdixie It's clearly different hill. The H1's hill as much more brush to it. Also, there are powerlines which are missing from the Audi-clip. Not to mention the obvious size and gradient difference of the hills...

En effet, cette vidéo montre une infime partie du Hummer H1. Vous pourrez peut-être monter des pentes enneigées avec votre Audi, vous pourrez peut-être éviter de glisser sur une plaque de verglas, mais est-ce que vous pourriez vous aventurer dans le désert, sur une piste rocheuse, ou bien même roulé dans la boue? Je ne crois pas.

What makes this video silly, as well as most of the posters, is that the two vehicles utilize the same AWD system. They both use Torsen differentials front and back. When you "lock in" the transfer case on an H1 you are locking the front and rear axles together which obviously the driver here didn't do. The newer Audi's use a proprietary center diff which auto locks when one axle starts to spin, as opposed to the old Torsen center diff which would have the same problem as the H1.

Kudos to the germans for building cars that do some amazing suff in the snow.im always jealous when i almost hit a parked car trying to turn a corner in my chevy truck and audis vokswagens go thru the corner at twice the speed i just did with no effort.however the person behind the wheel of the hummer probably doesnt know how to use.it my cousin stationed in germany goes up hills like that all the time in a military spec humvee .just deflate the tires,lock the diffs and go.

It looks like the same hill to me, just shot from a different angle. I'm pretty sure the Hummer made it up that hill too though, just after they cut it.
Besides, as far as I know, Hummer and Audi Quattro (except A3/S3/TT) both feature the Torsen-differential, so the only two differences here should be weight and speed of approach...
I drive a Torsen-quattro myself by the way :)

@GONZODvS if you compare the angle of the hill, the lenght of the cars when they start uphill and the grass on the sides you will see that it is very similar, so my guess is probably same hill, just different time of day...
i was amazed how good audi quattro's are, i've seen audi 100(front wd) unable to climb the steap icy road, driver called his friend with audi 100 quattro to take him home, his friend with quattro not only climbed the hill, he pulled the fwd 100 uphill too!!

@michaeldublg actually check the lenght of the hill, and the surrounding grass and stuff, angle seem different at the first view but if you look closer, and few times, compare the angle the vehicles when they climb... I'm pretty sure it's the same hill, just different day, or at least time of the day...
and hummer could have made it over in that last pass, but i havent seen it, if you find full video i'd be happy to see it, untill then, it hasnt gone over...
