  • BAMF!!!

  • I ove Joe. Especially when he was with Chick and Airto. What an underrated player! He was brilliant!

  • Joe is right up there with Coltrane... simples!

  • Is it just me or does his style seem a little Coltrane-ish? Even his tone to some extent, idk maybe its just me.

  • Everybody needs to hear Joe on "Moon Germs" whith the so very youngs Stanley Clarke (just on acoustic),Herbert Hancock and Jack De Jonnete on drums(he is too an excellent Pianist, see his records playng piano). You must see too Joe on the album "Penny

Arcade"playng tenor, alto, soprano, flute e picollo flute, just fantastic too!

  • Joe sounds really really good! But where's Woody's solo? Damn!!!!!

  • why did Woody have to do that corny finger-snapping all the time? I've come to LOVE that. But that thing does not, at all, represent the giant he is. It's just HILARIOUS to me now!!! These guys are giants. They prove that the world can be a civilized place. Civilized in that there is time for people to come up with whole worlds of music that can be excelled upon in different strata. I truly truly LOVE this music in so many ways that include musics and philosophy. Love it !!

  • Joe Farrell also plays some oh so fun stuff on "Samba Song", from the Album "Friends", with Chick Corea, Eddie Gomez, and Steve Gadd. I first heard that as a junior in high school in 1978 and have loved it ever since. Check it out, it's on youtube!

  • great pause placement at 0:58...

  • Oops, Woody's solo is posted in "part 2" of the same title. Thanks for both of these!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. More people need to know about Joe! I was looking forward to hearing Woody in this setting too...

  • this piano player sucks!!!

  • saw Farrell in 1974 at Boomers in manhattan, me and a pal were the ONLY people in the fucking club ! I wanted to cry but Joe dried my tears instantly. He BURNED just for us, unforgettable. Also saw him do "Moon Germs" Live at the CTI Jazz Show held in Central Park, 1976. Chet Baker, Hank Crawford, Grover Washington, Hubert Laws, Ron Carter. Farrell was on another fucking planet !!! Killer !!!!

  • Someone asked on this post in recent times of the name of the tune in this video. The name of this tune is "Vim and Vigor." It's also on a recording by the same name by the late Joe Farrell on the Timeless record label.

  • So many great tenor players and Joe was one of the best. He had it all, harmonic sense, time, and phrasing. tough to lose both him and Bob Berg so young. Two of the great ones.

  • @xlfutur1 It's a different world without Joe Henderson, Joe Farrell, Bob Berg, and Michael Brecker.

  • Anyone know what this blues is called?

  • @bemonkey22 - "Vim and Vigor" written by Joe Farrell

  • MI JOE miss him so much ... we were together when you bought your 1948 WAS THE FIRST INSTRUMENT ... .. we were in Palermo ... and was a CLARINO .....

  • MI MANCHI TANTO jOE...ERAVAMO INSIEME QUANDO HAI COMPRATO IL TUO PRIMO STRUMENTO...ERA IL 1948 ..ERAVAMO A PALERMO ...ED ERA UN CLARINO.....

  • Happy birthday, Joe Farrell! I still miss your stay-overs.

Joe Farrell was born on the 16th of December, 1937.

  • God rest him...

I love his playing, that broad NYC BLUES tone MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  • Joe Farrell Has always been one of my favourite reed players. What a great master!! I love him completely here. ans what a great band !! Specially the Drummer wauw Great Cat.

  • Happy blues. Joe was one of the first recognized horn players to play quartal lines. This is straight ahead however.

  • demorei 25 anos para escultar algo tão bom mas valeu a pena cayyyo brasil

  • Joe Farrell could swing with the best of them.

  • Joe Farrell could swing. This was not his best straight ahead bebop solo. But better than most could achieve.

  • So true. Joe could do anything but he was deeply rooted in swing and bebop. That´s the difference between him and many more famous modern tenor players.

  • We love you for this!

    A real gem!!!

  • Righteous!

  • The late great Joe Farrell -- one of the torchbearers of modern jazz. Great bluesy wow sound, simply incredible.

Feel free to drop by my little jazz & swing site. Link is in my profile.

Thanks a bunch, Greets to Call It Anything & Peace!

    Brew "Surfin Woody" Leicht

  • I love anything by Joe Farrell. Great unsung player, who died way too young.

  • Hey all jazz lovers--let's not have racism.....

  • No bias here, man! I listen with my ears, not my eyes! I love Woody, Freddie, Joe (Henderson) and Joe (Farrell) 'cause they all deliver. I'm as disappointed as you that there's no Woody solo here.

  • Man ya'll completely by passed Woody for this dude? talk about bias.

  • No Woody solo??!!!! BOOOOO!!!

  • what song is this?

  • ..uhh.. are you sure that isn't Neil Swainson on bass, rather than "miel sawison"??

  • This clip is great but where is woody's solo?
