I had already seem this film in England when it came out, then I saw it in a packed cinema in Johannesburg. Due to the ridiculous censorship laws out there at the time, the sound was cut from this scene altogether, so there I was pissing myself laughing while 400 people sat around me in complete silence, which made it even funnier!

For those too young, this scene was revolutionary. In the 50-60's there were many TV show cowboys. We grew up on Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, etc. All had scenes around the campfire with them eating beans, it was a staple. This scene literally "blew" them all away. Genius

Some of you have commented that you don't find this very funny. However, think back to 1974 when this movie was made... Many people were a lot less "Politically Correct" back then, there was no Comedy Central and comedy in general was a lot more sterile and reserved on TV in those days. This scene was incredibly funny (and ground breaking) back then! I remember seeing it the first time in the early 80's. I literally fell off my couch with laughter!
