  • Great rendition of this beautiful song, thanks for sharing.

  • easy to learn and very evocative.. thanks for watching..

  • A teacher used to play us this song, when I was at Intermediate school back in the early 80's, and we used to have to sing a similar song called "packing my things", once again about the harshness of a gold diggers lot back in the 1860's. Anyway enjoy yourself in NZ it would be great to catch up.

  • I haven't heard this song for years, it was a harsh life for any gold prospecter.

  • Queenstown is a great place.. I remember driving out of Queenstown and down the lower shotover valley to lake hayes and sang this song late into the evening.. magical memories

This was one of the last songs I sung with my Father before he died last year and now I'm teaching myself to play guitar so I can do it by myself.

  • Awesome song and great !! job!

  • thanks .. M:)

  • This reminds me of a few photos I have of my grandfather in California, with pack mule all loaded up and off to pan for gold. I only met my father's father once. As I remember it , he never found gold and always went home to his wife for he knew where his gold was all along. Never heard this gem of a song before...

  • in total, the gold rush probably generated more deep disappointment, pain and despair than any wealth.. all that glistens.......

this also reminds me of a line from a song 'as i roved out' .. "instead of gold, sure its brass i find...."

  • I think Paul Metsers was born in Holland
