hey there. just to say loving your videos . You really know what your doing. From a learning point of view is really useful when you shoot the vids from above like this one as we can all work out what your doing !
hey thanks :) Im glad the videos are helping. Yes when the angle is from above you can learn more..at the moment im moving out to a new place but I hope I have time in the couple next week, in the meanwhile...boogie on !! :D
Hi Tom, it was a pleasure showing you the song and let me know when you finish it..take your time and make it a good swinging one, was nice to meet you!
Hi Eeco Please May I Ask What Keys Of C In The Left Hand Are You Playing, I Love That Boogie Rhythm, Also If You Wish I Have Made A Boogie In Gm (Simply Minor) Tell Me What You Think If You Get Time. All The Best
Thank You For Replying So Soon. If You Watch My Videos You Can See How Bad My Timeing Is On Some Of Them, But It's Fun I Love Playing. Thats The Main Thing Ha!
"Freaky" is someone who keeps MY FAITH alive. He plays 8 to the bar like the rare few of the MASTERS!!! There are "muscians" that can play BW...there are only a few ARTISTS that can FEEL BW...I have EVERY ONE of his downloads. BW is in his genes,,,also in his jeans if you watch his right leg...ENJOY!
I'll never be able to play it like that. I've tried and tried. Question,is this played from sheet music or by ear? Man,all I can say is ,you've got it nailed down.Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks, yeah the left hand is the most important part in boogie woogie , a solid, crispy but swinging one.Ofcourse the swing in the right hand has to be there too but that's another story, keep it roll'n :D Eeco
RCA/Bluebird (BMG) released an album (CD) entitled "Barrelhouse Boogie" in the early 1990's which features the complete RCA Victor output of the Ammons/Johnson duos from the early 1940's, among others.
Other than that, there's only the original 4-record 78rpm album set entitled "8 To The Bar" from 1941, of which I've only seen one copy in over 20 years - mine. :D
Do you have a recommendation on how to begin playing piano like this? Are there books you studied, did you just learn by ear? I really want to be able to do this, but I don't know where to start.
I would say..start with my 1st lesson. I started to listen by ear what I still do by the way and still learn it by my teacher who is(and still is)a very good boogie woogie player.
Man, to play that left hand figure at that speed and consistency is a tribute to the time you've put in at the piano. It just bounces solidly along and propels the merrily skipping right hand! lol...Gonna take a lot of hours to work up the left hand/wrist/arm on most of these pieces you've shown us. Great balance, Eeco. Salut!
Brilliant! Your videos are an education to me. Over the past few years been concentrating on Boogie Piano, and Ive learnt more form your vids that any book or other person!
Ive been playing the Jools Holland version of this.
he does a slightly different melody - which I initially found easier. (I found the fast RH octaves on the intro quite tricky.). Keep em coming!
As much as I don't need to really say it, but this is another home run into the boogie woogie ball park, this one has sent all ball into orbit and the people Drooling from excitement :D, very nice solid rythym again, yet another top rating :D
I have actually noticed that you have something in common with Fats Waller, in having a good strong left hand in your playing :)
I give two other examples of tunes with that special groove, so You know what I mean. These examples have what I would call a 100% boogie woogie magic left hand: 1) Pete Johnson - Kaycee Feeling (1944), 2.47 long. 2) Charlie Norman - Boogie 68 (1979), 3.18 long. To sum it up: You have already reached a very high level. PS. I'm sure You already have Kaycee Feeling, but if You are missing Boogie68, just tell me where I should mail it to you. Keep swinging! /Rounder
When I'm listening to/watching Your videos, I can say without exaggeration: You have that boogie woogie groove, so very hard to achieve... There are many pianists out there, much more well-known than You are, that doesn't get it to the finishing line the way You do. I'm of course talking but the all-important driving left hand. Between triplet swing eights and straight eights, a tad closer to straight eights. Your sense of pace is also very good: no slowing down or speeding up. Nice to hear!
OHH my god, this song reminds me of Oklahoma where I used study in the US. I'm romantically crying
